Following on from the lovely response from my post yesterday re my Reiss trousers can you advise on a winner wedding outfit. Can I wear a trouser suit or does it need to be a dress? I have 3 options ordered, I would wear the suit as styled with blouse and scarf. The event is in London and the event is very high end from what I can see .

Of course you can!

TheChosenTwo · 06/08/2026 20:53

I love the full suit (as I loved your trousers and ordered them for myself yesterday!) - in fact I like all 3 outfits you shared but definitely think you could wear the trouser suit to a posh wedding.

Sallyissailing · 06/08/2026 20:57

@TheChosenTwo I haven’t been to a wedding in years so I wasn’t sure. I have ordered all three but I’m leaning towards the suit . Hope you love your new trousers zx

I’d it a day or evening wedding? All the clothes are lovely but the suit seems more day time to me than evening wear. The green dress is the best for bridging the gap between day and evening.

Sallyissailing · 06/08/2026 21:04

It’s day and evening @BrinkWomanship .

You look fabulous in the trousers but I’ve voted the green dress as being the most appropriate (and also I love it).

BebbanburgIsMine · 06/08/2026 21:08

I like the navy dress,

I don’t like the suit at all, sorry

kdramaqueen · 06/08/2026 21:11

The green dress, the suit is too casual.

These days, I would say wear what you like, but there are still people who frown on it and say trousers are for men, dresses for women. You know your hosts-what are they like?

They are friends of my son , mid twenties and very stylish. I don’t know the bride well but the venue is fabulous. I don’t want to stand out but I rarely wear dresses these days, like most people I think.

Season?

Sallyissailing · 06/08/2026 21:25

It’s in December @greenbean80 , I just realised I posted winner instead of Winter.

I think that trouser suit is gorgeous. One of my closest friends wore a trouser suit to my wedding and looked great. I also love the green dress. Of the three, the green dress would be my personal favourite, but I mostly wear dresses (was just packing for a holiday and put 6 dresses in the bag for 1 week 😂) If you aren’t a dress person you will probably look and feel best in the trouser suit.

justforthisnow · 06/08/2026 21:29

The green dress is the most appropriate but a trouser suit is a winner too, I recall being very impressed with Phoebe Waller Bridgers one at her sister in laws wedding a few years ago.

I’d say they were more work/office wear leaning in style, but I like the green dress. With some gold accessories perhaps? And brown shoes. I wore very simliar to a wedding this year.

A velvet trouser suit would work too.

EmpressStorm · 06/08/2026 21:32

Thr trouser suit is lovely but it’s more office vibe, the green dress for me is more wedding occassion appropriate, the navy I have and I wear it to work.

EmpressStorm · 06/08/2026 21:36

If it’s not till winter I’d wait a bit. Me and em usually do fab velvet trouser suits which would work. I have this blazer, not the trousers, and I’d buy the trousers in a flash if they did them again this winter. That would be very winter wedding appropriate,

I would say yes to a trouser suit, but that one looks like you’re going to the office. It’s not very glam for a wedding.

SallyDraperGetInHere · 06/08/2026 21:59

I don’t love the trouser suit, and think the colour could look very drab in the depths of winter. The green dress would be lovely in winter with an elegant overcoat.

PhaedraTwo · 06/08/2026 22:13

The green dress appeared in a recent thread about what to wear to a job interview and was deemed suitable by some. I didn't think it was as it was more a sort of after 6 dress. I don't like the green dress and I think it's quite drab and the more I've looked at it, the less I like it.

The Me +Em dress is a daytime work dress.

The trouser suit is a fantastic shape and the best of the three. You could wear it but it's a pity it's not more vibrant.

smilesy · 06/08/2026 22:29

I think you absolutely could wear a trouser suit, but not that one. It doesn’t look “luxe”enough to wear instead of a frock to a wedding iyswim. Agree with pp that a velvet suit would work well at a winter wedding. Or at the very least a more vibrant colour. I think both the dresses are a bit meh 🤷‍♀️
