Following on from the lovely response from my post yesterday re my Reiss trousers can you advise on a winner wedding outfit. Can I wear a trouser suit or does it need to be a dress? I have 3 options ordered, I would wear the suit as styled with blouse and scarf. The event is in London and the event is very high end from what I can see .

The navy dress is nice, but I still think it's more of an office dress. Not wedding & also not really Christmas either?

I thought the olive green dress looked nice too, though I know what you mean about it reminding you of outfits you wore in the 90s, as I probably wore similar!

Did you see this dress on the Reiss website, @Sallyissailing ? As I think the satin fabric lends it more of a subtly glamorous feel, whether for Christmas out somewhere, or the wedding? (Still think a velvet suit wins though!)

I agree a velvet trousers suit would look beautiful for a December wedding but would definitely keep the navy dress for other occasions.

The only thing that I would add op is that you should cut your hair , at 57 long ‘done’ hair in that colour with be very ageing.

WTF??

OP, you look fabulous in the navy (and I personally think you looked pretty good in the green too) but I think I'd feel a bit underdressed in the navy or the suit at a wedding. As someone said, tweed is an informal fabric traditionally. I do think the idea of a suit is a great one, there've been some really lovely ones suggested.

You were obviously only being honest @Wheredidyoulastseehim but ouch 😞

Thank you @Trickedbyadoughnut , I do love the velvet tuxedo’s suggested. The
posters on this site have really good taste and I would have never really thought of a suit like that before.

Sorry op but it”s the elephant in the room and I presume you are paying someone to do that professionally, it’s not good.

With respect, hair is an individual thing and a style that doesn’t suit one person may look amazing on another. Age has fuck all to do with it and saying that at 57 you shouldn’t have “long, done hair” is a ridiculous, sweeping generalisation

I am a similar age to the OP. I have my below shoulder length hair “done” on occasions. I get loads of compliments. Because it suits
me. Nothing to do with how many years I have been on the planet. Are you always this ageist? 😊

You are welcome. I suspect we had a wrong’un there but even so, being dictatorial about what length anyone should or shouldn’t have their hair at a certain age is one of my pet peeves 😆
