Can I wear a trouser suit to a high end wedding?

Following on from the lovely response from my post yesterday re my Reiss trousers can you advise on a winner wedding outfit. Can I wear a trouser suit or does it need to be a dress? I have 3 options ordered, I would wear the suit as styled with blouse and scarf. The event is in London and the event is very high end from what I can see .

I nearly wore trousers as the MoG but the jacket was velvet, long line and fitted. In the end I wore it over a silk and lace frock because I bottled it.

I think the suit you have posted looks too corporate for a wedding. Sorry.

I think the green dress would look lovely for a winter wedding. If you love the suit then I would pair it with a more winter coloured scarf.

A tux suit is the traditional option for women, and what I often used to wear to flash bashes.

The velvet suits from PPs are really good, too.

If you're in love with your beige suit, I'd suggest treating it as gold. Try it with a satin shirt in a gold or gold-adjacent colour and perhaps a metallic gold scarf.

Ah, so a winner for a winter wedding! I have not voted, as I'm afraid that I don't think any of the three is quite right ... sorry!

From your previous post about the Reiss trousers (& hopefully matching jacket too!), you seem to like a minimal, slightly masculine aesthetic?

• The green dress is fine, & could look good with the right accessories - but the matte fabric combined with the dark shade make it look a bit flat.

• The navy & cream dress is a smart office dress. Plus, even though it's a winter wedding I presume there'll be heating! Bouclé looks hot & itchy & sweaty ...

• The suit combined with the blouse & cravat is lovely. But the suit is a brown tweedy-looking one &, despite the great cut, is very much daytime IMO.

A winter wedding somewhere fancy will, I'm sure, make full use of the shorter days & cooler temperatures & (especially by evening time) have fires lit & candles flickering. It therefore seems like a bit of a missed opportunity to go for fabrics that have no light-reflecting qualities like the green dress (in fact all of your choices). Velvet, silk, satin, metallic jacquard & the like would be my choice. They can shine in a low-key way - something like a matte satin would still have a soft lustre to it.

I think the idea of a trouser suit is great. And it sounds more like your style. I really like the Me+Em ones (which you can still buy if you're a size 4!), & the Serena Bute & NRBY ones. And I think the blouse & cravat styling that you were thinking of would work splendidly - it would look really elegant. Both the Me+Em ones in the photos are worn with tops (one satin, one silk pussy bow) that would work.

What I would say though, is that cotton velvet is more hard-wearing & less prone to flattening of the pile than viscose-silk velvet - that can be a real issue with trousers, especially on the bum!

Oh, & I also think that the tux suggestion is a good alternative - with a silk tie-neck blouse as shown above, & great heels, it would look fab & very stylish.

Temperley London also does a cotton-blend velvet suit in 11 colours, with a waistcoat too if you felt like it. It also comes in black - & leopard-print velvet ...! Also expensive, but lovely.

Reiss actually had this petrol-blue cotton-velvet trouser suit, though it's now out of stock. But as a PP said, wait a little & they & other brands are likely to bring them in soon ...

Boden often does them too - also Wyse & Jigsaw (& they'll be cheaper than Barbara Bui!!!).

I never understand the posters on here who worry about being overdressed ... I love seeing flamboyancy, eccentricity, individuality in dress - it brightens my day. I'm sure everyone at the community centre would be delighted ... 😁!!

I'm often flamboyantly overdressed, @EleanorMc67, especially now I've adopted Massive Skirts for the rest of the year 😁 That would be two years' clothes budget, though, and I have to send my dry cleaning away (£££) as we have no local service. I'm with you in principle, however!

I love a trouser suit but I have surprised myself by preferring the green dress. I hardly ever wear dresses so I’m not sure what’s going on there.

I also go to very few weddings these days so I’m not going to try and advise about what’s most appropriate but the green dress is my favourite and the trouser suit second.

Editing to say I’ve not looked properly at Eleanormac’s suggestions but they’re bound to be fabulous. I also thoroughly support overdressing.

You can definitely wear a trouser suit but the one you posted is too neutral in colour / fabric.
You need one which is brighter/ more lux feeling. You might be able to dress it up with blouse / shoes but I’m not sure it would work.

It’s coming today so hopefully it will look nice, the rest comes next week. It’s stressful dressing for weddings , I don’t know why .

While I like the look of the suit - it really does not work for a London winter wedding in any high end setting. It's too informal.
If you want to wear a trouser suit - it really needs to be more tailored, more "classical" - the pic on one of the other posts with a coral suit is a good example.
If I had to chose from your 3 options - the green dress is the best option. It is a little boring, but safe. If you accessorise it with some glamorous costume jewellery and a clutch - it'll work. Also - in winter, you'll be cold in just the dress. You may want to also have a jacket/shawl.
Navy dress does not work for a wedding. It's more a dress for a dinner out London.
IMHO. I am in London.

My problem is I now like the trousers suit so much that I am worried that I will want to keep it when it comes, the same could go for the 2 dresses. I will have to step away from looking at clothes on line 😂

Keep the outfits! Why not. They are all great - even if they don't quite work for the wedding.
You have plenty of time before the actual wedding to decide.

I'm surprised at the love being shown for the green dress. I think it's a dull and neither one thing nor the other. The ruching over the stomach makes it not particularly office wear but it's too drab to be dressy up wear.
