I'm starting this first one but hoping that when a thread looks close to ending another thread member can set the next one up. This is not working out so well. 😂

To avoid duplicate threads please try to post in the thread that's ending to alert everyone you're setting up a new one.

Other members check who was first to offer and whether a new one is live.
It might be an idea to keep a list of advents that are live in the OP and later on which are sold out. This can be copy/pasted/edited when a new thread is started.

That's good. Maybe I am a bit more interested than I thought.

This is a tricky stage of advent season. As we've still got a lot of reveals to come it's difficult to weigh up the few that are out there already.

I think I have a problem- another Harrods FAC nightmare to share.

This time, we all had to queue up at Harrods in Knightsbridge. It was like queuing to see Father Christmas ( I used to go years ago when my kids were little- I don’t go anymore 😊) with dressed up elves and entertainment/ refreshments provided. All quite jolly except there was a limited number of calendars available so a lot of angst. When I got to the front of the queue, I was led into a little room with a screen on the wall. You had to click on a link in the app on your phone that linked to this screen, log in on the screen and only then could order the coveted calendar. You had twelve SECONDS to get this done. It was fraught; my fat fingers fumbled, I couldn’t remember the password, the login kept failing, it was terrible. The elf felt sorry for me so led me to a playroom with toys and more computers where successful buyers were allowed to bring their kids while they sipped champagne (not the kids, the beautiful, successful shoppers). Elf let me keep trying on one of the kiddie screens even though my twelve seconds were up but it was no use. It was the wrong screen and so I failed. The shame of leaving the area empty handed was too much. I could feel the pitying stares bore into my soul - and then I woke up 🤣.

Clearly obsessed - not sure even I believe I’m not that bothered 🤣🤣.

@Addictedtobeauty - that’s brilliant! I have had that kind of dream - where you have to write something/dial a number but keep getting it wrong - it’s a classic anxiety dream and so stressful!

It is pricey, I wasn't that keen on it before, hence why I still have it. I might use it a bit more and see what I think.

@Addictedtobeauty 🤣🤣 I'm so glad that's just a nightmare, that's awful. I guess it's similar to what we'll go through. My fingers turn into fat trembling sausages when I'm trying to order or type something fast 🙈

It just made me think of something though, I've not thought of this memory for years. When I was younger, my mum took me and my sisters to a grotto to see Santa and it was so hot. We'd taken off our coats and jumpers but the queue was huge. I ended up throwing up everywhere, so the staff quickly moved us to the front of the queue 🙈🤣 Nowadays, most grottos are just a hut or a room with Santa, they're not like how they used to be when I was a kid. It's a shame really.

@OvaHere for me, the Harrods is in No1 spot, but I won't buy it until some more have released their contents. I'd ideally like to order by the end of August, so I'll compare then what's on offer 🙂

I was reading up on the renewing pack. Apparently it's quite fragranced but works well to make the skin glow the next day.

It sounds good but I do already have a couple of go to products on that score - The Sisley Velvet Flowers mask and BoJ Ground Rice and Honey Mask. Both are a lot cheaper than Valmont, the BoJ significantly so.

I suppose it would be fun to try as part of the calendar but I'd be very unlikely to buy it retail even if I did like it.

How did you use yours? I use mine as an overnight mask and I quite like it. At first I wasn’t keen on the smell and thought it smelt a bit old lady like, but I now like it! I wouldn’t pay full price for it but happy to have another in the calendar. It lasts ages as you don’t need to use a lot.

I think the Valmont was in Harrods in 2024? I had it then. I really disliked the small. I have very dry skin and used it as a day cream and it worked fine. But the smell...

@pinkchampagne1 I've used it as a cream mask, so put on a thick layer then washed it off after 10 mins. Also as an overnight mask. I think it's because it's quite fragranced that I struggle with.

@Fleecy yes, it was in the 2024 calendar. I wonder if that's why I struggled, my skin gets very dry in winter and maybe the fragrance didn't help.

I might try it now with my skin not being as dry.

Ooo some interesting double doors there 👀 I think I'm ok about the night cream now.

There used to be a beautiful department store in Salisbury called Style & Gerrish, very like Liberty and they would have the top floor converted into a winter wonderland at Christmas.

There was a cute little photo of me, aged 3 or 4, holding a teddy bear in the snow, surrounded by fir trees and windmills. It was like Narnia 😊

Wasn't it great?! They should go back to that. This was a beautiful department store too, called Lewis's in Leeds. The toy floor was huge!! 😍

I think I am ok with the night cream now too and am back to feeling quite excited about the calendar 😃

I remember Lewis's. I used to go there with my Dad.

There was a Lewis's in Manchester too- in the current primarni building. The father Christmas grotto was epic, one year there was even an ice skating rink! I think...

I'm intrigued by Boots fragrance as I have points!

@Addictedtobeauty the foreo device is quite pleasant to use- a vibrating little machine with an attached mask. It changes heat and it feels lovely. It hasn't magically worked though 🤣. It was in vogue a few years ago and I use it occasionally!

I wondered as I was typing if you'd been as well, with you not being too far away from me.

I don't remember it too well, it closed down when I was still quite young. My only memories are the large grotto, the toy floor, the name on the doors and one time when people were going crazy in the sales and I lost my mum 🤣 My sister remembers it well though.

I've signed up to this, just incase. I wasn't keen on putting in my Tel number, so I left that clear and it did accept it without. (Incase anyone else doesn't want to put their number in too).

I’ve decided to save my points for the sake and do exactly that ! Buy a really beautiful scarf or something quirky for one of my friends who is getting married .
