New thread

Guidelines
I'm starting this first one but hoping that when a thread looks close to ending another thread member can set the next one up. This is not working out so well. 😂

To avoid duplicate threads please try to post in the thread that's ending to alert everyone you're setting up a new one.

Other members check who was first to offer and whether a new one is live.
It might be an idea to keep a list of advents that are live in the OP and later on which are sold out. This can be copy/pasted/edited when a new thread is started.

It probably goes without saying but please be courteous and patient with each other. This thread will have spoilers and please no judging of others for their purchasing choices. Participation in the threads is optional.

Just watched the Harrods unboxing. I do think there are some amazing doors the Shiseido with MZ is incredible and then I think they follow with Bioeffect but you are right Xmas eve and day are a disappointment.
I think I will buy it but something is holding me back slightly at the moment I guess it’s not knowing what other advents will be coming out.

I just watched the reallyree unboxing. I'm torn on Harrods. Quite a number of things I would like but also a fair bit I'm not fussed over. The stuff that does interest me is all the very pricey skincare.

I'm the same really. It's the pricey luxury skincare that I don't think anywhere else will offer that's really attracting me. There's a few things from the other categories that excite me but not much. Like the Sisley lipstick or cle de peau primer. Can anyone work out how much the skincare covers of the value?

ClutteredPalace · 04/08/2026 13:19

I need to go and watch the unboxing, I do want it but Im trying to hold off until SNK reveal theirs in case I like that more. I think we need a Mumsnet calendar curated by everyone here. That would be amazing!

Same! I need to compare them all first. I'm going to give the others until 28th August, if they've not released the contents by then, I'm ordering the Harrods beauty one. I think the ones I want to compare with Harrods are Spacenk, cult beauty, Harvey nicks, Selfridge's and Sephora.

It easily covers the value from the expensive skincare alone. I suppose like @Puravida23 I'm reluctant to commit without seeing others. I might end up kicking myself if I miss out though. I know stuff can be picked up on Vinted but I learned from last year it's very easy to rack up not far off the cost of just buying the calendar doing that.

I'm also trying to not end up with loads of advents. That gets a harder ideal the further into reveals we get. 😂

Hi all - I missed the Harrods fragrance a/c due to being on holiday up north with very little internet/phone service. I should not have even been thinking about it, so I don’t really mind!

Looking forward to watching the a/c reveals next time I have access to the technology!

IDontHateRainbows · 04/08/2026 13:30

Not been mentioned yet but I'm hoping Liberty do a men's advent calendar again. Most things are unisex, i can live without makeup items as usually not the right colour, and i quite enjoy the more masculine scents.

I'm a bit of a liberty fan and already pre ordered the women's

Yeah, I found that with the cult beauty ac, I bought about 8 things from it on vinted and spent over £100.
I was meaning how much of the £1,700+ reported value does the skincare take up. I might work it out. As you can probably tell, I'm not busy today 🤣

Growlybear83 · 04/08/2026 13:32

@IDontHateRainbows I agree. The Liberty men’s calendar is the only non fragrance AC I might buy this year. I really regretted buying the women’s AC after seeing the men’s last years. And I much preferred the box too.

When do they usually reveal this? I'm planning on doing a Frankenstein for my husband so it can be a mixture of things. He doesn't need another 25 days of pampering stuff. I thought maybe I could get either the beauty or mens liberty, sell off a few things then use the box.

Lonely12 · 04/08/2026 13:38

JoRaRaRa · 04/08/2026 10:34

Oh that's strange. Double check the quantity on your email, that's how much I paid for 2 fragrance calendars.

I will do

AprilLady · 04/08/2026 13:40

I think the “value” is definitely there for Harrods even if you are only interested in the skin care. There are 5 products each with RRPs over £130. Valued at their RRP any two of these products covers the cost of the calendar.

I am not going to be doing spreadsheets this year as I am trying to limit my advent calendar purchases and so far have found all the reveals other than Harrods easy to resist without analysis. But Harrods has what I am looking for - a number of £££ luxury products that I will enjoy trying and which I would never pay full RRP for. Also a high proportion of other items I will be happy to use. So I have pre-ordered it.

I think around September. They've really moved up a gear in the men's grooming world as they do the men's kits regularly so reckon they have a following. Also I bet it is cheaper than the women's due to pink tax.

I will cream off anything I like and Mr. Rainbows ( maybe even Master Rainbows too) will get the rest at xmas.

Same for me - there are 12 items I don’t want, although the skin care does make up for this - not sure what to do when SNK are dawdling.

LightandBreezy · 04/08/2026 14:01

@JoRaRaRa I think the Sisley one is lighter than the CT one, hence the likelihood of it making me look dead - I don't suit lipsticks paler than my natural lip colour at all.

JoRaRaRa · 04/08/2026 14:01

I weren't questioning if there was value in Harrods 🤣 I must've worded it very wrong. I wanted to know if anyone had worked out what part of the reported value (£1,700) is skincare.

I've just done some quick maths, hopefully I've included everything, it comes up to £1,260!!! Exciting!! So that's almost 75% of the worth value 🥳

Oh I thought it was darker. I think we need to go test them, I might go into town next week and have a look. I've got a feeling that I might actually have the CT one in a drawer upstairs. I think I might've got it in a CT gift set unless it's new and then scrap that and I don't need to go look 🤣

A few things give me pause on the skincare despite the temptation.

Revive - I've only ever tried sample sachets from the brand but I've not really liked anything I have tried.

Shiseido eye/lip cream - the whole FX Solutions range is too heavily fragranced for my preference. I'm using up the day cream atm from last years advent and I don't love it.

Bioeffect - I have 3 collected from edits

La Prairie cleanser - really like it but also still have at least 2 to use up.

Cle de Peau - the brand makes it seem appealing but I have no need for an spf primer.

Medik8 Vit C - another fave product but I have 3 from the CB gwp bags.

That leaves Lyma cream and U Beauty neck serum (mildly curious), AB Rich eyecream (do love this and it's v expensive) and the Valmont mask (curious) as the most appealing products.

When I write it down like this I can see I probably have no business buying this calendar. Doesn't mean I won't. 😂

@OvaHere it feels like there might be a better fit for you ?

I totally agree re sheseido - draws for me are the AB, MZSkin, medik8. Bioeffect and the neck cream - which more than covers the cost - potentially could get on vinted. Might be variable what are listed at though …if more than £20 per item might as well just get the calendar

Beautyfox · 04/08/2026 14:31

My DD has come up with the most wonderful idea that I should aim for 12 beauty advents so I can have one everyone month for the whole year like a super countdown to Christmas! I think this is her best idea yet although she has no idea how much these things actually cost.

Edited

I forgot about the MZ Skin, I would use that too.

If I just limited myself to buying only the AB eye cream on Vinted it would be fine. I managed to get one last year from the Liberty calendar for £30.

This has just reminded me actually, @pinkchampagne1 I got the prime renewal pack out and started using it like you recommended, like a night cream, and I've changed my mind on it, it is very nice. I'm not sure it's rich enough for me for winter, but it's nice for summer.

Oh and I've just remembered, here's me saying my night cream stash is low, I bought a Augustinus Bader the rich cream set in the spacenk sale last year, so I have 45ml, plus the additional 15ml that I bought in the ftf mystery bundle 🙈 I don't think I need night cream as much as I thought I did.

I am glad you are enjoying the Valmont more as a moisturiser. I actually really like it and you only need a small amount so it lasts ages. I am very happy to have another one in this year’s calendar. 😃

Night cream is the area that I thought was lacking a bit in my stash, but I have just looked and I have a full sized Murad (recently started), a full sized Elemis, a travel sized Elemis, a No 7 future renew one (think 25ml) and that little night cream we got in a recent Liberty beauty drop so I do have a few to keep me going.

LightandBreezy · 04/08/2026 14:36

Having looked again at Harrods BAC I probably wouldn't use any of the make up, only possibly the Laguna eyeshadow stick, but I wear eyeshadow very very rarely and it's much darker than anything I'd normally wear. So another one just thinking about it for the skincare, but with similar thoughts as @OvaHere on shiseido - I read about this cream and it sounded good but generally I can't tolerate the smell of their products. Especially bad here as I'd like to try it as a lip cream so would then inevitably accidentally eat some. Plus I have 1 La prairie cleanser and 2 Medik 8 vit cs awaiting use. I do really want to try the bioeffect though as somehow I've never got one, and I'd like to try the Bader too. Clea de peau I'm not excited about as such but I did really like the spf in last years calendar. Bit ambivalent about neck cream and eye serum as they are extra steps so I suspect would end up unused.

Beautyfox · 04/08/2026 15:50

I love the packaging for some of the ‘doors’ on the the Jo Malone advent calendar. The stockings are cute so is number 25 which looks very reusable. I’m trying to stay away from single brand calendars but that’s why I’m saying today and who knows what tomorrow brings.
