The crap curly hair products have that don’t work.

Picture pending approval but basically Umberto Giannini and Aussie curry products I’ve tried are absolutely useless and make my hair feel horrible.
I run a lot and in this heat get very sweaty so need to wash my hair every run. I can’t be dealing with drying and straightening so need to find something that will keep my major frizz under control so I can wash and just let it dry.

Any suggestions other than these?

No suggestions but following as I am in a similar position and really fed up with the frizz and dryness.

KitRange · 30/07/2026 11:25

Do you find they're too heavy?

Personally I have a mix of curly and wavy hair, and I find wave specific products much lighter for all my hair.

I also swear by the cantu clear mousse, very light weight, non sticky.

CraftyNavySeal · 30/07/2026 11:26

Mousse, the cheap aerosol ones in a can

I have wavy rather than curly though.

Asiana · 30/07/2026 11:30

Garnier air dry leave in conditioner

BossFloss · 30/07/2026 11:34

I use Innersense products - shampoo & conditioner, followed by ‘I create volume’ and Flora and curl volumising mousse. They are expensive but they work and I no longer spend money on products that end up in the bin. Only the flora & curl one is a curly hair product. The Innersense are used and recommended in the specialist curly salon where I get my hair cut.

I have curly wavy hair and usually blow dry it, but when on holiday and it's to warm and I need to wash it every day I wash and condition as normal then after the final rinse I just swith of the shower and run some extra condition though and then blot with a towel and scrunch it, no extra products needed and let air dry

Givingmytwocents · 30/07/2026 11:42

I recently discover the 'Aussie leave in light conditioner' and it is very good, it leaves your hair soft and keeps curls. You wash your hair, slap the conditioner on wet hair and leave to dry naturally - I only tried it after years of trying to find something good, as it was on half price sale

LifeBeginsToday · 30/07/2026 11:44

I use Aussie mousse and love it. It depends how curly your hair is. Mine is more a heavy wave and the mousse isn't too heavy which creams can be.

TofuTuesday · 30/07/2026 11:44

Urgh I feel your pain I can’t imagine how much I’ve spent on different curl products over the years. Currently using Lush curl cream and then gel on very wet hair and getting good day 1 results.
going to get a keratin treatment instead next month

Squidlette · 30/07/2026 11:46

Saltspray. Got 2b do a beach one but the bedhead one is better- if pricier. Ispray and scrunch. But it's still always better the day after.

AliMonkey · 30/07/2026 11:50

I find the Umberto curl jelly ok (have a handy travel size so useful for short trips) but not my favourite. I normally use Wave Hello curl defining cream. Bumble and bumble one is slightly better but 5x the price so can’t justify it. I never blow dry, just scrunch with product and leave and it seems to cope ok in the heat.

Citronella321 · 30/07/2026 11:52

I can't wean myself off John Frieda Frizz Ease but I'm looking for an alternative to all the Redken stuff I've used for about 20 years as it's no longer working on my menopause hair.

MelancholyEnchantment · 30/07/2026 11:57

I use Catwalk by TIGI Curls Rock Amplifier Styling Cream. A hairdresser recommended it and as you only use one pump's worth of product at a time the bottle lasts ages.

FallenNight · 30/07/2026 12:02

You have loads of products.

When I was washing daily I just used the Cantu Custard and done.

Loved it, but less staying power than a curl cream and gel on top (currently using all only curls for 3 day staying power)

I sometimes use the curl jelly as well. But alone, no other products. It does for a day or two.

lolarosea · 30/07/2026 12:05

Really depends on your curly type and hair texture, look at the curly girl method on Google/Instagram.

If you are using the products and not styling your hair e.g just brushing it and air drying then it probably won't help much with the texture. I have curly hair (3c) more than wavy. I use the eco tools gel but it can only go so far on its own to controlling frizz, also the cantu curl cream but it's probably too thick for waves, I would recommend the curl custard by Aunt Jackie's if you can get hold of it.

The shampoo and conditioner you are using will effect it too. The Umberto Gianni products are too drying imo.

NZDreaming · 30/07/2026 12:06

Miriam’s collection, rice water shampoo and conditioner. It’s much lighter and doesn’t weigh your hair down.

TemperanceWest · 30/07/2026 12:07

I am using Cantu avocado curl activator at the moment. I really like it. Just on its own.

Ophy83 · 30/07/2026 12:13

I only shampoo once or twice a week, otherwise if my hair needs washing/refreshing I just use conditioner both to wash and then to squish in. Put a bit of leave in after the final rinse, wrap in a tshirt for 5 mins, then use mousse and root clip.

Greenwriter76 · 30/07/2026 12:41

Agree about the Umberto stuff - drying.
Currently using the Aussie curl range which I get good results with but I find the shampoo a bit harsh.
Only Curls co-wash, conditioner and gel are hydrating and always great for a reset of curly hair - I’ve used them on & off for years.

Fatsnowflake · 30/07/2026 12:46

How coarse is your hair? I use cantu but it's quite a heavy product.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/07/2026 12:47

VO5 curl detangling milk spray is great for my wavy hair. Keep repurchasing it as it’s so good and my SIL originally bought it for me when I was in hospital, I didn’t know about it.

Ironfloor269 · 30/07/2026 12:52

The curly hair specific products I can swear by are Cantu curl crème (comes in a tub) and Umberto Ginanni curl crème, curl jelly and curl custard. You have to apply veeery little though, the size of a 20p coin on to soaking wet hair.

I use J&J baby shampoo for clarifying only so about once in 6 weeks and the rest of the time, I cowash with Lidl apple 🍏 conditioner and leave in Aldi volume conditioner before rinsing the bowl method way. Both are cheap as chips. Oh and a little bit of Wella Tough Stuff gel as the last step after applying Cantu curl crème.

i don’t use any of the products in your photo, OP. Tbh, you don’t need any more than a sulfate free shampoo for clarifying, silicone free conditioner for cowashing and conditioning, a curl crème and maybe gel.

i let my hair air dry completely.

Ohcrap082024 · 30/07/2026 12:57

I agree that the Umberto Giannnimi curl products are rubbish. Even the tiniest amount of the curl jelly leaves my hair sticky.

However, my dd really likes it. But her hair is more wavy curly where as mine is more frizzy curly.

CheeseForHer · 30/07/2026 13:00

I don't have curly hair but my husband has 3C curls and uses Curlsmith products. He lets his hair air dry and his curls always look lovely and defined.

YoungSoak · 30/07/2026 13:02

The only thing that works for my wavy hair is that Umberto Gianni curl jelly that doesn’t work for yours. I tired curl creams and Cantu stuff but they are too heavy and make my hair really flat. You have to try different products but then you can end up using something once and it’s a waste of money! It’s a feckin minefield
