Oh goodness. But 93 is a good innings. That makes the Kents and the Duke of Gloucester the only remaining great-grandchildren of Edward VII.

Sad news on top of sad news for the family. And for Norway. For many years, she acted as Norway's First Lady. RIP Princess Astrid.

I always think of the Duke of Gloucester as being a generation younger...the same generation as the king.

I guess he's closer in age to Charles than he is/was to most of his cousins.

Yes, he's only 4 years older than Charles. His mother had him when she was 44.

Yes, Alice had an interesting life didn't she? Travelled extensively in her youth and married relatively late for an aristocratic woman in those times. And she lived to over 100, beating even the Queen Mum!

Yes, wasn't she about 103 when she died? She got married at 34 and didn't have Prince William until she was 40, then Richard a few years later.
She had some beautiful jewellery, I've seen some gorgeous pieces on the current Duchess.

I didn't know that! I know that he's what you might call a controversial figure, involving the police forces of more than one nation.
On one occasion, he called the police himself, but fought with them when they arrived!

Royal titles in Germany are only courtesy ones these days and not recognised officially but in the case of Ernst I think his title is because he's a Prince of the UK!

And if women weren't allowed to inherit the throne here then he'd be our king!!!

I know!!! That's right, he's a British royal (technically), being the Prince of Hanover!

Kate at the Marsden yesterday, I think it's the same style as the white dress she's worn to Wimbledon in the past. She always looks good in that shade of green.

It's a lovely shade of green, and a good style for the event. Bonus for having short sleeves in a hospital! Great work done at the Marsden and I'm glad that the money she raised doing the Three Peaks helps this.

Just catching up - more sad news for the Norwegian royals. 🙁

Kate looks great in that green dress, I much prefer it to the blue trouser suit she wore the day before in Liverpool.

These pictures came up on a ‘Royal History’ thread - 14 years ago today in Singapore. I’d almost forgotten the wedges and the knee-length skirts that Kate favoured back then!

I quite like the dress on the right! Yes, she did favour wedges for a while there.

And the inevitable LK Bennett Sledge pump in nude patent leather! Those were everywhere in the early 2010s.

Sophie and Zara at the Cornbury House Horse Trials yesterday. Sophie looks very country. Not quite sure about Zara’s jeans - I hate barrel cut - but love her bag. Anyone know the brand?
