Her great grandfather came from a small cottage in the west of Ireland, emigrated to the US, worked very hard and did well.
Grace Kelly afaik purchased the ancestral home / plot.

The Kelly history is interesting, as is that of the Grimaldis! I read a couple of books about Grace Kelly, quite a story!

There is a good mini-series about their courtship that I watched a couple of years ago. I think there might be a dubbed version, but I watched it in Norwegian with English subtitles.

Haakon and Ingrid's first official appearance as King and Crown Princess. Doesn't feel quite right to comment on clothes but she certainly looks the business in her trouser suit and pulled back hair.

I wonder if the king of Sweden ever thinks of abdicating? CPV seems diligent and down to earth and her kids are a bit older now, not that she would need to leave them to go off on months long tours or anything like that.

Must be so difficult for them to have to have to do this in public straight after the death of a loved one and for the new Crown Princess at a young age.

It's got to be weird, even if you inherit something, a business or similar, no-one expects you you to turn up in the morning after your parent's passing to take up the reins.

My friend in Norway says everyone is so sad as King Harald was known as the 'Grandfather of Norway' & such a great monarch.
The churches in Norway rang their bells at noon in respect for the late King.

This is why I think the abdication model works well. The old monarch can retire and enjoy their twilight years (like Daisy and Beatrix seem to be), the new monarch gets the job while they're still young enough to do it, and the family doesn't have to put a brave face on while in mourning.

I agree it’s why I felt for KC and the criticism over the pen not working. He had just lost his Mum and was going through a gruelling schedule as part of a public ritual to become king.

I agree the Crown Princess looks very appropriate. I always think having a uniform to wear helps as you don’t have to think what to wear. Princess Anne said as much about the Coronation when she was Gold-Stick-in-waiting.

From what I've read it was a lovely match but probably one that would raise eyebrows these days as they met when she was 13 and got engaged when she was 15 and Constantine 21.

It was an extraordinary love story with a long secret engagement because of her families objections. They fought many legal battles with the greek authorities who IMO behaved very badly. But Constantine did die on Greek soil.

If she was only 14 or 15 then I can't really blame her family for objecting!
