The end of summer lies ahead, but we're hoping for more bling!

I like all of Meghan's looks here, especially the lighter jeans with the short bouclé jacket.
Maybe these choices of Diana weren't her best...

That was a great outfit though the jeans now look a bit dated. But the jacket and flats would still work with straight or wide leg jeans.

I think jeans with that jacket and flats is a really good look. I like her striped shirt/white jeans combo as well.

I love articles like this, but I always read with a slight air of scepticism. I'm never sure if they're an accurate window into a world I know nothing about, or whether the posh prep school mums are reading it and wondering what on earth they're on about. I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle.

My school drop offs are characterised by me either wearing my WFH leggings and a nice top or, if I'm going into the office, something a bit smarter. My inner-city primary has a mix of people in gym wear, work clothes, traditional Indian / Pakistani clothes and, occasionally, someone in a dressing gown will pull up at the last minute and discharge a couple of kids out of the car a few seconds before the gate closes. I would love to be as glamorous as Kate or Meghan on the school run rather than slightly frazzled and short of time. Oh how the other half live. Le sigh...

Maireas · 21/08/2026 17:06

In all honesty, it's just a style piece - none of them are photographed on the school run nowadays, to protect the children.
It's just about casual style I think.

yes it is just a style piece. I think both Meghan and Catherine have excellent casual style - very different but equally good.

A gorgeous kimono on the Japanese Crown Princess on her visit to Paraguay. The Crown Prince needs to put away the Grecian 2000 though. He used to have nice salt and pepper hair but has hit the (dye) bottle in recent years and it makes him look older than his brother the Emperor!

Crown Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko’s Official Visit to Paraguay

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña and First Lady Leticia Ocampos welcomed Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko at the Government Palace in Asunción

That's a beautiful kimono. Such lovely colours and I like the way that the pattern flows.
True about the hair, it never looks good!

See also Joaquin of Denmark whose suspiciously dark locks make him look older than King Fred, who's retained a certain boyish charm despite his greys. (How much charm, I hear you ask... But let's not go there!!)

Maireas · 22/08/2026 13:52

Paradoxically, after a certain age, dark hair is more ageing than grey hair, I always think.

ElegantlyDressing · 22/08/2026 16:52

As someone who is pushing 60 with naturally dark hair I do worry about that....

I can't imagine any of the Royal women with hair as short as Diana's now, Zara and Sophie are fairly short but still long enough to put up or accessorise. A comment elsewhere recently about hidden topics made me review mine (I hid lots of them years ago). I unhid the Royal Family one and was a bit Shock at all the H&M threads and that was before the returning to UK announcement.

The First Lady's suit jacket is a really interesting cut, with the drapey front. I quite like it!

Cecilie looks very pretty in the ivory and lace and the floral tiara is lovely.
Queen Mary's dress isn't very flattering, imo, it's a pastel floral and possibly the wrong length? Not quite right, but hair and makeup on point as usual.

I like Princess Benedickte's outfit, the two tone is very interesting, I like the assymetry.

I agree re Cecille. She looks very pretty.
They are a good looking couple.
I’m not too keen on Mary’s dress either @Maireasas it is a wee bit insipid, colour wise. Mary is looking very slim.

Maireas · 23/08/2026 09:25

Yes, she usually looks very elegant, but insipid is right. Benedickte's dress I like.

I think Mary looks a bit like I did in an awful bridesmaid’s dress in the 80’s 😂 It looks dated and a bit like she has gone out in her nightie. Most unlike her

Yes, it's just shapeless and colourless.

Oh I had a ghastly bridesmaid’s dress too. Cotton with a small flower print.
My hair was nice though 😂

KiIIingMeDeftly · 23/08/2026 10:17

The bride's dress reminds me of Kate's with the lace overlay.

Mary should stay away from pale colours - it looks like she's borrowed a dress from Sophie! Count Nikolai is very handsome and his girlfriend is always stylish.

Yes, I love her dress, it looks like VB.
It looks like the one Ms Van Heel wore when she and AB entered no10, but longer length and darker colour.

Yes I too thought of Kate’s dress when I saw Cecille’s dress @KillingMeDeftly

Choux · 23/08/2026 19:58

I think Queen Mary has nailed her white tie ie tiara for ladies wedding look. She has her smallest tiara on and a bland dress while still looking polished. Perfect not to upstage the bride. Remember when Kate wore an insipid blush dress to her sister’s wedding and also to Peter Philips wedding this summer. Mary’s look is similarly ‘fade into the background’ which is hard when she is one of the few ladies there wearing a tiara.

The buttoned front and neckline on Cecile’s dress reminds me of Princess Grace’s wedding dress. Which some said inspired Kate a little.

Sorry, Choux, have to disagree on that one. There are ways of not upstaging a bride without looking g like Wee Willie Winkie 😆😆
