What are you seeing people wearing out and about?

Petty much as the title! I am not in the UK, but here I seem to be seeing a lot of black summer dresses, a lot of white summer dresses, and a lot of white skirts with black vest tops. It doesn't entirely reflect what I have seen in the shops, so I am interested as to why,and wondering if it is a local micro trend, or more widespread?

Colourful dresses, midi or maxi length, black or natural skirts, long wide summery trousers with tucked in t shirts and sandals.

Nangula · 05/07/2026 17:40

In our little town, lots of wide leg trousers in pale colours with white t-shirts, shorts and vest tops. And loads of summer midi dresses. Plus lots of people in gym or dog walking gear.

JustSetFireToIt · 05/07/2026 17:45

I live just outside an English market town and people here are mostly wearing light, colourful midi or maxi dresses, wide leg trousers and tops (cream/white/yellow), pale blue jeans and white/cream T-shirts or exercise gear. No black or dark colours.

sandalbed · 05/07/2026 17:46

lots of loose trousers & shorts. Not as many dresses.

Whowhatwerewolf · 05/07/2026 17:49

Flowered midi dresses, often with denim jackets. Posters on here tend to say this look is dated but it's in full swing here in Cheshire.

palron · 05/07/2026 18:05

I see a lot fewer dresses around these days. Mostly shorts and t shirts, long block coloured skirts and vest/string tops. Lots of cool looking loose flowy trousers too. Very little floral stuff except in my ancient age group ha ha, mostly dark colours like navy, army green, and black.

Nothing looks weird or mad, all good.

petitpasta · 05/07/2026 18:07

I live in a place that is seemingly the retirement flat capital of Britain and I am seeing a lot of shapeless seasalt linen dresses that make even slim people look like big square boxes.

Clearingaspace · 05/07/2026 18:24

There is no one look for women in my area at the moment - everyone is wearing different things/colours and no real haircut trend. Although I think it’s true that floral fabrics are not around much.

The most noticeable trend with everyone dressed/styled the same is among teen boys, curly hair seems particularly popular.

Mycatmax · 05/07/2026 18:54

Black linen dresses.

Brown corduroy skirts with dropped waists.

Boston clogs and Arizonas

TheLemonOtter · 05/07/2026 18:54

Interesting! Maybe it is just round here then. I haven't seen many florals, although last year there were a lot of stripes, particularly blue ones on dresses and trousers!

Here too. Denim jackets for women never go out of style, the style may change from year to year but a classic well fitting denim jacket is timeless, functional, and versatile.
Colour is back! Athleisure is big, flowy maxi & midi skirts, halter tops, linen separates, blues and greens are big this summer, casual sundresses.

flippinnorastights · 05/07/2026 19:54

Either cropped barrel trousers with tucked in T-shirts and lots and lots of shorts. Virtually no dresses or skirts and no bright prints

Puppylucky · 05/07/2026 19:57

Jorts of various lengths trainers and crew socks plus slim fit tops - we all look like skater boys!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 05/07/2026 19:58

Florals seem to be done, lots of stripy wide leg floaty trousers (that all look a bit like PJs) with either vests or shirts. Lots of black summer dresses here as well. Plus white skirts with dark tops.

Im feeling very out of fashion as my summer wardrobe could do with a refresh!

henlake7 · 05/07/2026 21:14

Mainly shorts and vest tops at the moment with a few floral dresses (mainly worn by older ladies).
My area is kinda deprived though so it's a lot of budget fashion and apparently colour must be expensive coz it's lots of boring neutrals for the most part!

ValBiro · 05/07/2026 21:19

Teenage girls alllll wearing teeny tiny denim shorts and strappy vests. Sometimes with the front button of the shorts undone to show even more tummy! Feels reminiscent of early 2000s fashion. Lots of midriff on show!

GreatFall · 05/07/2026 21:20

Lots of plain white t-shirts. I’ve always liked them for summer and now I notice more people wearing them.

Ankle socks. Showing your bare ankles is not allowed.

Relatively few sandals. Young people don’t seem to wear sandals at all - trainers only with everything.

TheOGCCL · 05/07/2026 22:34

Now it's been mentioned it's true that there are a lot less dresses around, of all types but especially jolly patterns.

Agree also on the lack of sandals. Another way to make me feel ancient but I am having the last laugh in the very hot weather. Maybe they are trying to save money on pedicures.

Coords still seem a big trend.

I'm in London.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 05/07/2026 23:19

@TheLemonOtter My DDs wear exactly that. Lots of vest tops as they wash well and everyone sells them. White and black either way round - top or bottom. Younger people definitely not wearing florals unless to a wedding! Casual it’s block colours.

SadieGreen · 05/07/2026 23:35

Raincoats. In Scotland.

TheChosenTwo · 05/07/2026 23:45

Yesterday out and about in centraL London, every group of young men (aged about 25ish) was wearing beige/white shirts and shorts and sort of deck shoes (also beige). It just looked really odd! My friend and I kept wondering if all these groups of men were going to a themed party somewhere as honestly they were all identical!

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 06/07/2026 06:04

Different looks. Younger women in Lycra shorts, vests and either crocs or trainers. Older women wearing dresses. Either short, loose fitting ones or midi/maxi. Lots of colours and florals. Sunglasses and sandals or trainers. Some people in wide legged light coloured trousers.
I have seen a few women wearing black summer dresses but not many. I tend to notice people wearing black in summer as I don’t think it’s ever practical. You can wear black for the majority of the time, why wear it in the heat?
I do see young males wearing black. Often in heavy, winter type clothes and I always think they are up to no good.

Blingismything · 06/07/2026 06:08

White vests worn with open shirts. Linen trousers with t-shirt.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 06/07/2026 06:10

Yesterday we were in a pub and there was a baby shower in another part of the pub. Lots of the younger women had fake tans, hair professionally pinned up, spikey heeled sandals and extremely short all in one outfits. Shorts and top in one, playsuit maybe. Either in soft pale blue or white - think it was a themed baby shower. Their backsides were virtually hanging out.

Floisme · 06/07/2026 06:23

Yesterday I saw a young woman looking fabulous in a below-the-knee fitted dress. It wasn’t skin tight, the fabric didn’t look Lycra’d , it was more in the style of a 1950s wiggle dress - I wasn’t close enough to tell for certain but I think it had darts! Rose pink. No frills, flounces or ruffles. Now admittedly it was cool here yesterday and it might not be a great choice in a heatwave but it was interesting how fresh and up to date it looked.
