What are you seeing people wearing out and about?

Petty much as the title! I am not in the UK, but here I seem to be seeing a lot of black summer dresses, a lot of white summer dresses, and a lot of white skirts with black vest tops. It doesn't entirely reflect what I have seen in the shops, so I am interested as to why,and wondering if it is a local micro trend, or more widespread?

In the heat, lots of wide leg, linen and PJ style trousers with vest tops
Women over 50 here seem to favour florals and trainers

Lots of floaty dresses, also loose gingham maxi dresses which look fun with birki clogs, saw a gorgeous leggy girl yesterday in knee length cowboy boots , denim shorts and white shirt covered in embroidered flowers! Tbh I haven’t noticed what the men are wearing, although yesterday a cyclist whizzed past with practically his whole faced covered in black balaclava which was astonishing to witness in this heat!

So? I couldn't care less, everyone knows that linen wrinkles, that's part of the beauty of it. I often wore linen dresses to work, as did lots of other women. It's the coolest fabric to wear on hot days.

I don’t want to look like a crumpled mess.
So I save linen for casual wear.
No one wants a creasy gusset lol.

I'm in Germany at the moment and most women seem to be in shorts and t-shirts or loose trousers rather than dresses. I find dresses more comfortable in the heat personally and especially some of the denim shorts wearers don't look that comfortable (its been 33°c today) , so I'm not bothered about not being the same.

Lots of women in patterned summer dresses here. And teenage girls in vest tops and short shorts.

That's absolutely fine, I wasn't criticizing. People who like to look perfect probably shouldn't wear linen, those who don't care (like me) can enjoy it.

I think that we are getting better at dressing in the heat. I am seeing lots of stylish people and at first I thought they were on holiday from southern Europe, but no, they were well turned out summer Brits.

True. I am probably too fussy about creases.

I live in the Highlands, which tends to be the land that time forgot in terms of fashun, but here are my observations from breakfast, the shopping centre and a retail park today:

The majority of people out and about in town were holiday makers so lots of waterproofs, fleeces, walking trousers, jeans, Hokas, walking shoes and walking sandals.

For locals, mostly jeans and trainers. Jeans of all styles - skinnies, bootcut, wide, cropped, although don’t think I saw any barrel legs. Some sandals, especially Birks or Birk clogs. T shirts, casual tops, lightweight jackets. Some patterned or colourful summery trousers, some skirts. Some athleisurewear. Crossbody bags of various styles and sizes. Not a lot of black outfits and absolutely 0 floral dresses and denim jackets.

For men, a lot of sportswear, some shorts, one or two in shirts and chinos.

Youngsters it’s all leggings or sportswear and hoodies!

I was wearing slim mom jeans, white tee, beige cardi, spezials and crossbody Longchamp. My friend was wearing navy top, dark bootcut jeans, sketchers and a waterproof jacket.

Lots of brown, I will be glad when that goes out of fashion.

Cropped trousers and short-sleeved shirts in this rural area of southwest England.

I like the dark chocolate brown, it's a softer alternative to black. I only have one dress in that colour but it's immediately become a favourite.

Lots of cheap floral dresses with tiered skirts.

Croydon today. Summer dresses with long or 3/4 sleeves or shorter dresses. Denim shorts with vest tops. In Sainsbury’s Selhurst Park, dresses, strapless ones and again denim shorts and top.

I have no idea! I've not left my house since December 🤭

I absolutely love brown and much prefer it to black. However I was quite shocked to see so much of it in summer clothes when browsing online, it's really not a summer colour in my mind, no matter how much I love it. It's winter here so I am embracing brown, but I certainly won't be wearing it come summer.

I don't understand why you would wear black in this weather. OK, so I might wear it at night but never during the day. Aren't we meant to reflect the light away with bright colours or white?

Reporting from the East Midlands here from village open gardens and Morrisons (go me!) In terms of what I noticed as looking chic on 40s age group it was sleeveless or short sleeve midaxi dresses in solid colours like white or navy, light weight fabrics, a bit of embroidery, loose silhouette and crisp striped shirt dresses, some belted.Small scale florals not making an outing this year but some larger scale prints in just two colours- like green on white or brown on cream in a fluid silky fabric.

God they look horrendously uncomfortable!

I don’t think I’ve seen a floral dress plus den jacket all summer. I’m very glad to see the back of that trend.

I’m seeing lots of barrel legs and wide legs in linen or cotton. Plain linen dresses, lots of neutrals, no patterns.

Wide leg trousers or floaty maxi skirts and T-shirts tucked in. Or a vest top with an open shirt over the top.
Definitely seeing less dresses around this year
