What are you seeing people wearing out and about?

Petty much as the title! I am not in the UK, but here I seem to be seeing a lot of black summer dresses, a lot of white summer dresses, and a lot of white skirts with black vest tops. It doesn't entirely reflect what I have seen in the shops, so I am interested as to why,and wondering if it is a local micro trend, or more widespread?

I have a shapeless Seasalt linen dress and couldn't care less if it makes me look like a big square box. 😅😆

It keeps me cool in summer, that's all that matters to me (not that I ever wear fitted clothes anyway, hate them).

Can’t wear linen to work, as soon as you sit down the whole outfit goes into a mass of wrinkles!

I’ve not actively noticed any trends (between work and a house project I’ve not been out much), but I’ve really had a hankering for monochrome this summer. I don’t know where it’s come from - I rarely wear black trousers as I don’t always find it easy to match a top to them (especially in summer), and I think I’ve subconsciously avoided monochrome due to association with 6th form uniform/waitressing work in my youth.

It too me a while to find the right monochrome outfit for an upcoming party though, I’m not sure it’s a trend strongly represented in stores yet.

I normally like a summer dress, and wanted to add one or two to my wardrobe this summer, but I’m finding them uninspiring and mostly a bit frumpy this year. I’m also way more drawn to separates too.

I've seen some nice white cotton dresses in the shops, but i am just not sure I am a full on white dress person, although they look very nice!

@TakeMe2Insanity , is a handbag rucksack a specific thing, or just a rucksack instead of a handbag? I keep using a lovely beachy type bag I was given which I think looks really nice but it does annoy me to carry on one shoulder!

I saw a woman in a gorgeous lilac coloured linen dress, really heavy linen (possibly Seasalt), it was shapeless but it looked great as she moved, really elegant.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo , what did you decide on for the party?

still about in the Home Counties 😂 throw in white trainers as well.

Google “Kent mums on train” for further info 😂

flowery maxi, denim jacket, M&S tinnies and picky bits en route to ABBA voyage for a night out!

Of course, you wear the most avant-garde fashion of all. Do you dress like an architect?

Or, most likely a mash-up of Next and Fatface like everyone else.

I was in Oxford (Summertown) last night and noticed quite a few ladies in lovely floaty dresses...I restrained myself from accosting them

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Today 13:09

Shorts and vest tops and skimpy dresses (skimpier the better) on younger women. Dresses of all sorts (maxi, midi, mini) on all shapes and sizes. When in elephant and castle last night saw more long print skirts and vest tops. Polka dots, ethnic type long skirts with beaded belt and vest tops.

I’ve noticed young men & older teen boys are going for a 90s American sports look, short shorts, sleeveless vests, pulled up white socks and baseball caps. Quite a few were topless this morning à la JFK Junior.

OhThePotential · Today 13:19

Rural Northern Scotland, in the market town its neutral shorts and a t shirt for most women, with a fair few ‘Beyond Nine’ type striped co-ord trouser sets), cropped tapered trews and a t shirt for older women.

All the men just seem to be muddling through with their winter clothes by wearing their ‘pub shirts’ with work trousers and boots during the day.

Teenagers are mostly sticking to black tracksuits and big white trainers, sometimes if its really hot the girls will wear black biker shorts and a vest, although to be fair we’ve literally had two hot days here so far this year.

bananaapplepears · Today 13:28

I'm currently in New York and there are loads of tiny denim shorts with black knee high boots.

cathyandclaire · Today 13:33

I've seen lots of young girls in short dresses/shorts with cowboy boots up and down the King's Road- and other looks reminiscent of Sienna Miller in the noughties.

girlwhowearsglasses · Today 13:33

At a central London media event this week: no less than six women in leopard print maxi dresses. All either wearing white trainers or black Birkenstocks

Also - what memo did I miss that at least four of the women in my team were wearing variants of these flat sandals this week? Are they a copy of some designer shoe?

No a handbag rucksacks so made out of p/leather, smaller than a rucksack.

Apart from the odd few days where shorts and T-shirts seen, near me it’s jeans, trainers, hoodies, fleeces, waterproofs, T-shirts, lightweight woollens. I’ve had very good use from my eBay cashmere finds this year! North east Scotland.

Hermes Oran dupe. Quite like them - would absolutely not pay Hermes £ 😱

NeverDropYourMooncup · Today 14:49

Mostly midaxi/maxi dresses, mostly in plant based tones from dark wood brown to oatmeal via every shade of green, some floral, some plain, some in black, a few with a blue print on white/cream reminiscent of Delft or tiles. Occasionally somebody wearing a full, highwaisted skirt with a boat neck, draped top in a toning colour. There's an optional loose shirt in cream, black, brown or beige to cover the arms from the sun. There's very little bare skin visible, so the occasional person wearing a mini skirt really stands out.

Most footwear is Birkenstock style or Crocs.

Hair is up without exception, sunglasses on, headwear optional. Bags are either raffia/jute macramé totes or suede hobos. Carrying large water bottles is non negotiable.

Then you have the 14 year old girl uniform as previously described with the denim shorts and trainers (and a minority that are wearing football length shorts and long sleeved cotton underneath t shirts instead of vest tops).

As far as the men are concerned, they seem to be wearing short sleeved shirts either buttoned or loose over t shirts with long shorts and mostly deck shoes.

Everybody seems to be treating the sun as though they're a woodlouse disturbed underneath a log - going from one patch of shade to another as quickly as possible. But there aren't anywhere near as many people out as usual because they're being sensible and staying in the shade.

Beautiful dresses in Perugia & multicoloured pretty looking maxis with vest tops. The students were in jeans/shorts/ minis & a lot of black with pretty white tops. I've only done a mad dash to Lidl today & didn't notice what anyone was wearing here
