Trying to find another couple of dresses for the summer. Age 50, size 12, 36DD. Looking for possibly a cool wrap dress, something with short sleeves.

I’ve got a Lucy dress from Whitestuff which has got me a few compliments - it is light and airy without being shapeless.

That's nice - was looking at this one: https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E483823-000/00?colorDisplayCode=16&sizeDisplayCode=004

Looks nice @yoyou - I’m a bit too scared of accidental exposure for buttons down the middle though!

I was looking at this one earlier today and thought the quality of the fabric was poor, though not sure what else you can expect for £40.

I have been wearing a nice cotton shirt dress from French Connection that I got last year. I haven’t bought anything in season this year as I’m trying to shop my wardrobe a bit more but cotton and not too tight are what I usually go for in a heat wave. I try to avoid T-shirt type cotton though as it can be too cloying in proper heat. Plus jeans are a problem anyway.

That White Stuff Dress is lovely, but viscose doesn’t suit everyone in the heat. I’ve got a couple of these from Fatface, which are a very similar shape but in linen mix (and very well behaved on the creasing front).

I bought a couple of linen dresses from White stuff last week which were nice! Wouldn’t say I felt cool in them as it was too bloody hot for anything to feel cool, but I think I felt more comfortable than I would have otherwise done

SwedishEdith · 29/06/2026 21:45

This one and a similar navy one from last year. I would usually avoid a tiered dress but this one is not too obvious. I don't wear the slip it comes with.

I like this, would be good if they did some different colour ways.

I wonder if the rust is more a pinky colour?

The Uniqlo airism sleeveless dress was a lifesaver for me at work last week.

MustardBear · 29/06/2026 22:36

I bought this pre-heatwave and it was great. Suitably wafty and not clingy

Very expensive for viscose

Hottno · 29/06/2026 22:57

I am not particularly short ,5ft 4 but dresses are too long for me 🤦‍♀️Have stuck with shorts!

This one is linen - the one to which I was comparing it from White Stuff was viscose.

I’m 5’ 3” and used to always go for knee length because midis were too long, but most places have a petite version, or in the case of the Fatface dress, a Shirt as well as petite option!

Yes, it is - definitely not brown, but a sort of washed out brick colour. I bought one of each colour!

I found my cotton fat face dresses were fantastic. Also, bizarrely, a SHEIN £3 bargain 😬😳 was a surprise winner for an evening event. It was so light to wear and got so many compliments. I had to stop myself saying “it was only £3 with discount codes on SHEIN!”

I bought this… was lovely and cool in the heat… thought it looked better on me than the model tho 🤪

I’ve bought three dresses so far this summer, they’re all 100%cotton, just knee length, midi and maxi, all under £30, loose enough to be cool, but all still flattering. My very favourite hot hot hot weather dress is an old M & S terracotta one from about 6 years ago, wish they brought the same shape out every year…great cotton fabric, shirred back, lined bodice, adjustable straps, floaty but not tent like
