Trying to find another couple of dresses for the summer. Age 50, size 12, 36DD. Looking for possibly a cool wrap dress, something with short sleeves.

The coolest and most compliments I got last week was a Matalan dress that I got for £2.50 on Vinted. It was light green and floaty and it felt amazing in the heat!

I am not particularly short ,5ft 4 but dresses are too long for me 🤦‍♀️Have stuck with shorts!

I'm 5 ft 3 and shop in the petite range, I live in floaty Midi dresses in the summer at work. TBH most of mine came from vinted.

This one. Very cooling and obviously non restrictive https://www.toa.st/products/garment-dyed-linen-shift-dress-blueberry

That’s a lovely shape and length. The price though!!

I also bought this one, which is very similar, but less expensive. Haven't worn it yet but it looks nice on. Linen is slightly heavier than the Toast one. Gorgeous colour ( I bought the pink, which is not really pink, it's a cerise sort of colour). https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-linen-round-neck-midi-shift-dress/p/clp23070522?color=PINK

I bought a brown ribbed long vest style dress last week from Primark, has a built in bra. £12! And it was is so cool, I’m washing it, drying it a rewearing it and have had loads of compliments. I have dresses that cost ten times more, but it’s been a treat in the heat. And I only popped in for some makeup wipes! Had it in grey and black, wish I’d got all three.

I have been wearing a lot of white. I often wear a loose white cotton top and a mainly white skirt, and like that I can easily change the top in the day if I want to freshen up. I have an openwork shirt - lots of holes -from Jaeger that I can wear over a small white vest if I want to, that way I am not exposing too much flesh but am also very ventilated.

I also have thin cotton maxi dresses from Marks and Boden that are very comfy in the heat, but haven't bought much this season so far.

EconomyClassRockstar · 03/07/2026 00:38

Not a dress but I bought a pair of Avery linen blend trousers by Maeve at Anthro the other day and wore them today with a white tank (it was 40 degrees here) and they were fabulous! Great in both the outdoor heat and air con.

FriendofDorothy · 03/07/2026 12:29

I like viscose shirt dresses as they dont crease. Hobbs.

I also got compliments from a young trendy stranger on my weird fish playsuit. Very unexpected. Amble boob room

I’ve bought a couple of these from Amazon. I really rate them, they were nice and cool and also flowy around the legs so I didn’t feel like anything was sticking to me. Highly recommend and for £24 can’t really go wrong.

I love those, especially the olive
been looking for nice, relaxed throw it on sort of day dresses

Papyrophile · 03/07/2026 20:00

Years ago, we spent months in the South of France on a canal boat. Most of my summer clothes were bought in the markets of Provence. I'm still wearing the same things when the thermometer hits 40C.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 03/07/2026 20:45

I’m early 50s, size 22 and short, and booby. I have an older Hobbs navy dress with elbow length sleeves, and got an emerald green similar version this year with an Aline skirt just below my knees - I’ve been “wash and re-wearing” both for the past couple of weeks. Along with a LandsEnd black linen mid-calf, full length sleeve, shirt dress.

JessyCarr · 03/07/2026 20:49

I’m wesring my Hush Liddie today and it’s so airy and comfortable.

Now on sale, and cheaper at M&S (£66) than on the Hush homepage (£83)

@bruffin they should definitely do plain colours. Some are very garish. I'd probably buy more if there were plain options.

Aslana · 04/07/2026 11:10

A variety of fairly cheap Italian linen shift dresses larger than my normal size. Ebay has loads. So easy to wear, wash and hang up to dry. No need to iron. Eg. Vera Tucci.

That’s beautiful.

I’ve just picked up 2 knee length dresses on Vinted for £10 each! So happy!

They’re amazing because the Indian cotton is so fine.

I was referring to ‘At Last’ dresses, link above.

I love this dress in the sale from Whistles, but I’ve bought a dress this plum colour already this year and the only other colour it comes in is red, looks cool and wafty though, it’s not been totally discounted yet!
