Trying to find another couple of dresses for the summer. Age 50, size 12, 36DD. Looking for possibly a cool wrap dress, something with short sleeves.

I found my cotton fat face dresses were fantastic. Also, bizarrely, a SHEIN £3 bargain 😬😳 was a surprise winner for an evening event. It was so light to wear and got so many compliments. I had to stop myself saying “it was only £3 with discount codes on SHEIN!”

Can you link the SHEIN dress please?

Can you link the SHEIN dress please?

I bought it 2 months ago but it’s the long maxi version of this (same material). Top was too big so I pinned it this week but love it so much I’m going to fix it as the zip can be adjusted.

My monsoon kaftan. Its see through but I dont care.

This & Other Stories dress from last year. Loose & cool & very comfortable. I really like the pleat detail on the shoulders/bodice - although my boobs did mean that the line of the dress was rather more ... disrupted than on the model! There are still a couple of them on Otrium in S & L.

I’ve bought a couple of these from Amazon. I really rate them, they were nice and cool and also flowy around the legs so I didn’t feel like anything was sticking to me. Highly recommend and for £24 can’t really go wrong.

I've got this one from White Stuff and I love it. I'm 5'5" and it sits just on my knee.

@minnowonthesay where's that stone coloured dress from?

I’ve bought three dresses so far this summer, they’re all 100%cotton, just knee length, midi and maxi, all under £30, loose enough to be cool, but all still flattering. My very favourite hot hot hot weather dress is an old M & S terracotta one from about 6 years ago, wish they brought the same shape out every year…great cotton fabric, shirred back, lined bodice, adjustable straps, floaty but not tent like

I love these dresses. Can you tell me where they are from please

cuckoolodger · 30/06/2026 07:46

For those on a budget I’ve had no end of compliments on these 100% cotton dresses from Shein and they are gloriously cooling. I’ve got 4 in various colours and I’m living in them. I also highly rate their 100% cotton trousers They wash brilliantly and I just throw them in the tumbler for 5 mins due to allergies and hang them up to finish off and they dry great with zero ironing. I’m 5ft 6 ,11st and a 36-38DD and I fit perfectly into a 12-14. Larger of boob may need a 16 but the elevated under boob area means you still get the over ash shape etc. Very best thing I’ve bought since I lost 100lb apart from the new bras to hold my smaller but saggy girls up 😂

I know not everybody likes shein but I’m genuinely short on cash and I’m thinking the trade off with 100% cotton that’s affordable means I’m reducing microplastics going into the water ways etc and it feels SO much better to wear cotton than poly blend which so many more expensive dresses in the uk are.

H&M shirt dresses for work, so nice to wear and comfortable.
Then I bought a beautiful new red leaf dress from m&S at the weekend and wore it Saturday night and that was very cool and easy to wear in the heat

minnowonthesay · 30/06/2026 08:06

@Tomatoblush the green dress is Tu, the damson dress is Wallis, the stone dress is Manamou and the terracotta one is the old M & S although you can still get it on Vinted!

I was looking at this one earlier today and thought the quality of the fabric was poor, though not sure what else you can expect for £40.

It’s ok. I wouldn’t want to wear a camisole underneath it in a heatwave though. 🫠

Rinseandspin · 30/06/2026 09:12

A shapely but skimming linen shift dress that I have had for years. It's the coolest thing I can wear for the hottest weather. I would love to find another one. When working from home last week I ended up wearing just a bikini top and shorts, with a top to hand to throw on to deal with any impromptu calls or parcel deliveries! I so easily overheat.

I won't buy any summer dresses or tops but 100% cotton or linen now.

This one is linen - the one to which I was comparing it from White Stuff was viscose.

The viscose one that was £69? That's a lot of money fir viscose

CrushingOnRubies · 30/06/2026 10:16

mountain warehouse has a selection of short sleeve knee length (mostly) dresses in lots of patterns and colours.

The Uniqlo airism sleeveless dress was a lifesaver for me at work last week.

Second to this. I've now got two in different colours, and they're smart enough for work, but comfortable enough to wear weekends too.

Yes, it is - definitely not brown, but a sort of washed out brick colour. I bought one of each colour!

Thank you have bought a couple too - they look v flattering. I got them on Very and 20% off!

I prefer sleeveless when it's really hot. I have that uniqlo one (bought for a tenner on vinted) but the fabric is fairly structured rather than airy. I like the mixed fabric dresses with the jersey vest top and woven cotton bottom. I have several from albaray and mango.

Dilemma999 · 30/06/2026 13:19

Good to see a few cheesecloth options. I love this fabric as it’s so light and airy.

Doublecloth is also worth looking for. I have a lovely beach dress in grey double cloth and it's great for hot weather.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 30/06/2026 15:45

I’ve got loads of dresses from Oliver Bonas and Scamp and Dude and it was so lovely to be able to wear them all! All lengths from above the knee to ankle length, most of them floaty but I kept really cool and felt great.

I'm going to get another one in a different colour too as I'm on holiday in the Med this summer and I think they'll be perfect for chucking in my suitcase, sightseeing in the day but also going out for dinner in the evening. They're really versatile.
