Comfortable chunky sandals for work and jeans under £120

Homeiswherethedogsare · 23/06/2026 14:07

I have a couple of Birkenstocks in different colors but wanted something a bit more structured that could look good both with jeans and work trousers or skirt.
I like chunky sandals but I am quite short and a size 12 so don’t want anything that makes me look too bulky.
I need them to be comfy - budget up to £120.
Brands I usually like are Sezane, Esska, Jonak etc.

Have you looked at Papillio sandals? They are by Birkenstocks and have the very comfortable footbeds but aren’t the classic Birkenstocks style. I bought some from a Birkenstocks shop when I was in Spain, they’re so comfortable. You can get them on the Birkenstocks website. Here’s a link to a pair that might suit what you’re looking for ….

Thanks a lot for the suggestion but these seem a bit too mature to me. I am only in my 30s so was considering something a bit different!

I have these - I can barely walk two minutes down the road without someone asking me where they are from! Go with everything - but also do other colour ways (I am tempted by the silver too now they are on sale). Really comfortable.

Edited to say, I know they are not a chunky design but they are so versatile. Plus I don't really like sandals that are too chunky as they look a bit utilitarian to me.

Indeed, but OP did specify chunky.

They’re lovely @Arlanymor

Do you want me to delete it entirely then? I originally posted because they are lovely sandals and I get heaps of compliments about them. I re-read the post, saw I had skimmed over the word chunky and then edited to post the disclaimer. I thought that was good enough rectification, but happy to go and get a birch branch to flagellate myself if that is preferred.

CleanandLight109 · 23/06/2026 21:17

Best get the branch @Arlanymor . How dare you link a lovely pair of sandals that would be smart enough for work and also look great with jeans😂
Surprised that you find the Papillio sandals a bit mature but like the Air and Grace ones which to me are very mature.
I have these which are super comfortable and look great - I think anyway.

Love those Timberland ones, how is the sizing? I've got skinny feet so anything wide swings on me

CleanandLight109 · 23/06/2026 21:31

I also have narrow feet @lovemelongtime and they fit me perfectly. I take a 6 in Clarks but always a 5.5 in Timberland.

Flagellate yourself? My dear, I just pointed something out. No harm meant. My apologies if I've upset you.

Just rummaging in the cupboard for the wood saw..! 😅

Ooh those Timberlands are lovely and I am sorely tempted - they look fantastic. I had to send my lovely Timberland boots to 'footwear heaven' in February, so would seem only fair that I replace them with something from the same family!

Thanks for the apology but no need as I'm not remotely upset, hence my use of humour (unless you really thought I was heading outdoors to find a branch?!) I just thought it rather unnecessary to belabour the same point twice when you'd already had an explanation. By the way, Michael Winner wants 'dear' back... see, humour!

I will never belabour twice again. Lashings of apologies. Thanks for the humorous, Wildean quips, and, indeed, explaining just how wrong I was.

I like 'lashings' - it's such an underused word. And I like it even more when it's not restrained to the purely Blytonesque and expanded beyond ginger beer!

I have my eye on some chunky Camper sandals… Pelotas something. Will try to find them…

corblimeygvnr · 23/06/2026 21:57

What is " mature" in a sandal ?

LukaModricsMidriff · 23/06/2026 22:00

Dr Marten sandals definitely fit your bill. They are very comfortable too
