Comfortable chunky sandals for work and jeans under £120

Homeiswherethedogsare · 23/06/2026 14:07

I have a couple of Birkenstocks in different colors but wanted something a bit more structured that could look good both with jeans and work trousers or skirt.
I like chunky sandals but I am quite short and a size 12 so don’t want anything that makes me look too bulky.
I need them to be comfy - budget up to £120.
Brands I usually like are Sezane, Esska, Jonak etc.

Best get the branch @Arlanymor . How dare you link a lovely pair of sandals that would be smart enough for work and also look great with jeans😂
Surprised that you find the Papillio sandals a bit mature but like the Air and Grace ones which to me are very mature.
I have these which are super comfortable and look great - I think anyway.

I was thinking exactly the same thing!! The ones posted by OP are far more „mature lady“ imo.

I like these ones:

josef Seibel always super comfy

Do you want me to delete it entirely then? I originally posted because they are lovely sandals and I get heaps of compliments about them. I re-read the post, saw I had skimmed over the word chunky and then edited to post the disclaimer. I thought that was good enough rectification, but happy to go and get a birch branch to flagellate myself if that is preferred.

Please don’t delete your post. Those sandals are lovely and someone else not minding about chunky would be grateful to see them ( like I was).

I’ve just ordered this exact pair! Have been mulling it over for a few days (not originally a fisherman style fan but they’ve been growing on me). I’m hoping the neutral colour works with quite a few different looks.

I felt the same about the style at first, it's a fine line between 'fashionably chunky' and 'practical but frumpy'. Honestly, I've lived in mine and they seem to look good with everything.

They've never rubbed or pinched, felt like walking on air from day 1. Practical and good for foot health but crucially, also very stylish and fashionable at the moment. I am thanking God for these chunky, slightly fugly shoes being all the rage at the moment, because when you have feet like mine, chunky and slightly fugly is often the only realistic option. 😂I was having slight reservations about whether they were as on trend as I'd hoped, or whether I just looked like a woman of a certain age in comfortable but frumpy sandals. But then I came face to face with a YOUNG woman wearing an almost identical pair with the PRADA logo on them. I googled and they are £900. That cheered me up no end.

I paid full price for mine and I was so happy to see they'd gone down massively in the sale. I was going to get another pair but was gutted when I realised the sale price only applied to the one colour I already had.

What is " mature" in a sandal ?

Oh come on. You know what the OP means. Have you always bought clothes that your mum might also choose at the same point in time?

Because of most of us haven't.

corblimeygvnr · 26/06/2026 10:11

@cookbookjunkie funnily enough I saw an insta fashion person and she was promoting sandals - the brand is something that most people would avoid I think. Pavers? Maybe it shows it's more about how you wear them as what you wear ? As for your point well I'm 70 and wouldn't wear half of what I see on here. Don't be so ageist.

Barbour have a nice range of chunky sandals at the moment. They are within your budget and there are plenty in the sales at the moment.

How about these?

I have some Dr Martens that are super comfy

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/06/2026 08:23

Merrell I hace had these a couple of months. They are brilliantly comfortable, so much so that I sold my DM Vos on Vinted. The Vis ver comfortable, but I found the soles too rock and too soft to be very stable when walking.

@Homeiswherethedogsarehow chunky do you want as imo the chunky chunky look is a bit dated.

For smart sandals I have the chunky Birkenstocks a pp mentioned which I love & the below which are a few years old but I still love

I just bought the moshulu ones and they are bloody lovely, so thank you!

IsabelWinnie · 27/06/2026 21:11

What size are you? I’m selling some on Vinted which might be perfect, they’re a 7.

Downatthebeach · 28/06/2026 07:12

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this brand but I absolutely love Fitflop sandals and have been wearing them for years as they are so comfortable. This season I bought some nice chunky gold Fitflop sandals that go so well with jeans, dresses and skirts.

i live in Aus so get year round use out of my sandals & definitely worth paying that bit extra for them.

Good Luck with your search as I am certain you will get lots of help/advice from the folks here on Mumsnet.

I really like those sandals, but I think chunky sandals are hideous.

My mum is 77 and bought a pair because when I saw her at the weekend people kept stopping me to say that they liked them! They are multi-generational sandals I think!

Get the silver - I just posted on another thread about liking to mix gold & silver jewellery. The silver version of your sandals looks as if it is actually silver & gold straps. Very versatile!
