@ScottishMouse I wouldn’t know. Can you get a chance to try it on, since you admire it so much? I can never really tell by looking online how things will be when on me.
Plus I honestly think there’s more in play as to whether items will suit than the colour.

ScottishMouse · 10/06/2026 16:39

Yes, I can go to a store over the next few days. I’m pretty certain it will look awful on me though, ecru is never my colour.

ScallopShellWalk · 10/06/2026 16:42

I often think my mood also plays a part. Sometimes the fabric helps and these have more than one colour. It might be a surprise and maybe not but you may see something else.

ScallopShellWalk · 10/06/2026 16:43

It’s also nice that you still consider things that you may have previously dismissed.

ScallopShellWalk · 10/06/2026 19:42

I wish toast made linen trousers in the dusty rose colour.

TosstTastic · 10/06/2026 21:00

What do people who wear Toast wear to weddings these days?
I think it's going to be a smart 'new outfit' kind of do for most guests rather than congratulating me on wearing an old beloved thing.
I tried in a few things from the wardrobe - my stuff works hard and Toast stuff often feels casual - is it all in the accessories? The shoes?

What do you do if it's chilly? i loved my 90s pasmina

NettleTea · 10/06/2026 22:20

Im loving the colour of the washed linen wide trousers but as Im on Mounjaro at the moment Im not buying. Plus theyd be dragging in the mud for me as Im a bit squat

I pretty much exclusively wear Toast workwear styles day to day but for weddings I wear more traditional ‘guest’ attire - perhaps a floral dress from somewhere like Liberty, Cabbages and Roses (now Anna Christi Lomas), Ghost or Orla Kiely.

I don’t wear Toast floral dresses, I don’t like Viscose and generally don’t like the prints.

OhThePotential · 11/06/2026 01:11

Oh and I 🩷 my pashmina too, but its not a nineties one. I bought it last year from Johnstons (I happen to live near Elgin so I’m a regular…)

I could have cried at the price. I cherish it though and I don’t care if its ‘out of fashion’.

OftenOrange · 11/06/2026 13:10

@ScottishMouse I do find cream to be a really unflattering colour , but ecru isn’t too bad if it’s not too yellow and the black may make a difference as has been said . I do think colour is key to feeling good something .
@OhThePotential Love your attitude and the pashmina is a classic so having a special one is brilliant.

OftenOrange · 11/06/2026 13:16

I’m coming round to the linen cotton box pleat skirt in ecru , at the bargain price of £235😂I do like the way it looks with coloured tops like green or red so it would be useful if it could be a throw on piece. I bought the bright madras check skirt at a silly price last year and it’s really great to throw on and in constant use.
Big inverted box pleats sound like a nightmare to maintain though , memories of struggling to align pleats after washing ……
I’m interested in others opinion , and also reviews when they come,
.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 11/06/2026 13:26

Just catching up with the new thread.
I ordered a few pieces from the new drop but unfortunately have been mostly disappointed.
The Flower crown print dress is lovely but the colours do not suit me at all, it was also ankle length on me at 5' 4”, so very long.
My biggest disappointment was the Oat Linen Easy Shirt, the button placement meant that, even though the shirt was oversized, it gaped at the bust. The buttonhole placket wasn’t sewn straight either and bulged out to one side, the same issue I had with the first blueberry tunic dress I received (the replacement was fine and I’ve worn it loads).
The hunter green tank is fine, but nothing special. I do really like the spearmint scarf, which will get loads of use.
I might try the twisted seam jeans next, and my quest for a new shirt goes on.

OhThePotential · 11/06/2026 14:01

@OftenOrange I have the big corduroy workwear dress from a few years ago in black and ecru. I wear the black regularly but never reach for the ecru. I’ve tried selling it on all the platforms but nobody wants it.

ScottishMouse · 11/06/2026 14:25

I have moved on from the lovely ecru dress & shirt. I know it won’t suit me, so there is no point in even trying. Plus I keep getting drawn to sleeveless dresses even though I know I will never wear them. I am likely going to return the chambray Martha one for this reason, I really like it in theory, but realistically I will never reach for it.

MsDastardley · 11/06/2026 16:55

I’ve got the twisted seam jeans and chambray dress being delivered tomorrow, along with a couple of tops. Fingers crossed.

I have spent well over an hour today just unpicking the hem on my railroad skirt. I wore it earlier in the week and have decided it’s too long. Length is 34” and maxi length on me at 5’6”. It’s a right faff shortening if you want to keep the original finish.

I saw someone modelling the Emma Carlow skirt on Toast’s instagram. They said she was 5’2” and the skirt was midi length. They must have shortened it for the photo as it’s almost floor length on website.

I’m just feeling grumpy about the amount of effort it’s taking. Wish I’d taken it to the tailors but it would have been expensive.

OftenOrange · 11/06/2026 16:56

@Theteapotsbrokenspout What a disappointment, especially the button gape on the shirt .
Also the Flower dress which is such a great shape, at least on the model.
The Union Jack colour combo is one I can’t wear either ,maybe because the primary colours are such high contrast .

@OhThePotential@ScottishMouse I splurged on a Toast ecru patterned dress which has proved to be a winner last year or the year before . The shape and colours are easy and cheerful, I’m really surprised they didn’t repeat it in subsequent years as it sold out quickly and so many here want dresses with sleeves.
The pattern placement on mine is less jarring !

I think its the right decision, I never wear my ecru corduroy work dress but wear the ‘midnight blue’ one al the time. The ecru is just so miserable.

There are far too many sleeveless things this season. Although I love the look of some of the co-ord sets on the models I would never wear sleeveless, never have and not about to start at 56!

The co-ords with sleeves look like weird pyjamas though so…

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 11/06/2026 18:14

@OftenOrange i had that dress and it was fantastic! It got too big for me though and I had to sell it. Would love to buy one in a medium but I never see them for sale.

OhThePotential · 11/06/2026 18:20

@ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs

I looked and couldn’t find one for sale either but Busby&Fox have a very similar one in at the moment for £129.00

And I missed out on that cord dress in midnight @OhThePotential (although what fitted me then wouldn’t still fit anyway). It was lovely, I always have an eye out for it on Vinted.
i know someone who only dresses in black, navy & charcoal, no exceptions. I’m beginning to think this might be the way forward for me, set myself a strict rule so I am not tempted by random ecru dresses!

NettleTea · 11/06/2026 18:45

hurrah, the red silk dress I bought on eBay fits me! I have something to wear to the private view of my gallery show next week.
Im not sure what it is called, but its a lined red silk chiffon, with raw edges, and a gathered tie under the bust. I was so worried it would not work

ScallopShellWalk · 11/06/2026 21:08

@NettleTea so good hour dress fits. It’s always great when they fit. 😊

I really like ecru, cream, ivory, white. I’ve pretty much gone off alot of colours but these don’t feel like a colour and lighten up my outfits. Mind you, cooking and pets can be a challenge.

ScallopShellWalk · 12/06/2026 08:10

@ScottishMouseI totally get that you can greatly admire an outfit yet know it shouldn’t come home with you. It’s sometimes hard to do this but you seem to know yourself well. I still need to tell myself this. Know that I now have plenty and that there will be so much more to admire.

ScottishMouse · 12/06/2026 08:20

I’m getting better at it @ScallopShellWalk but it’s still a work in progress 😆
I fell down a rabbit hole last night after thinking about my colleague who dresses only in black/navy/dark grey. She always looks amazing, and she is neither young nor particularly slim. Then I went and had a good look at my wardrobe and realised I am 90% of the way there already! There are only a very few items in there that are not white/ecru/grey/navy/black and these are the very items that I reach for rarely and often put on and then take off again because something feels too much. Down to my socks - they are all dark grey! This feels like a revelation that was staring me in the face.
Someone here once talked about keeping a list of all the Toast items they tried and sent back and the reasons why. I think I need to do this. I realised that I had bought an oat linen shirt a couple of years ago which I sold earlier this year as the colour was terrible on me. I would never be tempted by ecru again if I could remember such lessons clearly. Plus I always get tempted by bad ideas in the sale.

@ScottishMouse You seem to have the perfect neutral wardrobe ,interesting that you admired your colleague’s clothes without realising that you have the same !
It already looks complete to me, I can imagine some of the lovely Toast scarves glowing against those things.
