@MsDastardley I had a look at the Brora sale yesterday and nothing really inspired me to order

I've returned everything from my Toast order except a rug and am waiting for my reworn vibae open toe mules to arrive. The tee hasn't been despatched yet. It's a pretty disappointing summer sales season all round - even the Cos preview was uninspiring!

Completely agree about the Cos sale, @MsDastardley. I've been eagerly anticipating it, particularly as they keep sending me emails about Cos USA, where the sale started a couple of weeks ago. But now it's started, it seems they've mostly just dredged up stuff from the last sale.

I've done well on Massimo Dutti, where I've just got a couple of linen dresses - nice, heavy linen that hardly creases but still feels cool. Also Net-a-Porter, which is generally out of my league price wise but you can get some bargains in their sales - they've just finished doing an extra 15% off but it should come back. I am waiting to see if a pair of Staud suede ankle boots will be further reduced (currently down from £380 to £228).

The Toast sale has just been a bit meh this year. Like Cos, there is very little summer 2026 stuff in it as far as I can tell. Maybe we should go back to the days when the sales were at the end of July and they were making room for autumn, not rehashing the previous sale.

@Saurus72 I got the forest marl neat sweater a few months ago. I love the colour and it's endlessly useful (though not in this weather!).

Niminy · 25/06/2026 10:39

(Sometimes poster, often lurker to these threads.)

Pondering my own Toast buying, I've realised I hardly ever buy anything in the sales. The exception was this time, when I bought a second black neat sweater and a pair of black cord barrel leg trousers.

I only ever buy basics from Toast: trousers (from a narrow range of styles), jumpers, tees and sweatshirts ditto. They need to be either black (which I wear for work six days a week) or very occasionally colours. So I buy incredibly selectively. I wear my Toast clothes a lot, because the fabrics are good and normally pretty well made.

I make a lot of my own clothes, and this means I don't resent Toast prices quite so much. When you factor in quality fabrics, sewing techniques that take more time (eg french seams, bias bound seams) and design details that mean there are more pattern pieces in each garment -- each of those drives the cost up. I've bought two pairs of Carys trousers this year, but I wear them all the time. Cost per wear will end up being reasonable.

But my rule is never to buy anything in a sale that I wouldn't buy at full price, and as most of what I like never ends up in the sale, I mostly pass them by.

ShadowViolet · 25/06/2026 11:17

That’s an interesting observation @Niminy

For me it’s almost the other way around - because I make my own clothes and know what’s involved and what good fabric costs it makes some of the Toast prices grate a little. I have no problem paying full price for something that’s well finished, but not all Toast items are.

I’m wearing a Toast shirt today that has all the proper finishes, topstitching, French seams etc. Full price for that is entirely justifiable to me. As a keen shirt maker myself I know just how much work is involved, the endless number of pattern pieces, the precision needed. I’m more surprised at the low prices some companies charge for that than the Toast price.

stnvcfo · 25/06/2026 11:29

I ordered a few things from the sale, but only actually kept the hottest item - the alpaca high neck jumper which I like a lot.
I actually do occasionally do buy things which are not in the sale as I usually wear them more. As mentioned downthread they tend to be staples so I wear them quite often.

CakeAndJazz · 25/06/2026 11:33

Thanks @ScallopShellWalk the Reworn cardigan arrives tomorrow and am hoping it’ll be a keeper.

I think more things have been reduced but they’ve not been added to the sale page. I had a piece of homeware reduced in price on my wishlist.

Stoic123 · 25/06/2026 11:38

Morning. Enjoying the sales chatter but not much to contribute - the cushion cover is tucked away for a future replacement and the lovely linen tea towel has been in use this week.

I think I get more enduring pleasure from Toast home items I've bought over the years than the clothes - tea towels, Xmas decs, colanders, linens, quilts, tea cosy, bowls, salt/condiment receptacles, napkins, blankets, trivet, bread board, jug etc... All still so lovely and beloved.

MsDastardley · 25/06/2026 11:49

@Niminy I love the Carys trousers, do you mind telling me what height you are. I find Toast trousers often have a really long rise. I’ve got the barrel leg linen and they’re not bad. I agree about generally buying things that you would consider at full price. I do earmark the odd thing that I like that I think is just too expensive for the amount of wear I would get, eg a sleeveless dress.

MsDastardley · 25/06/2026 11:53

Me&Em sale started today. I’ve ordered a jumper I’ve had my eye on and that’s it. I usually buy a couple of things from them each summer but there has been nothing at all which I’ve been tempted to buy. They have gone for brown in a big way this year and I don’t like it. Saying that I did get a brown and orange dress from Toast which I love!

Niminy · 25/06/2026 11:54

@MsDastardley I'm 5'2" and the Carys trousers are full length on me. I don't find the rise too long (but I do have a rounded stomach that takes up some of the length!). I agree that I wouldn't pay Toast prices for things I wouldn't wear all the time.

MsDastardley · 25/06/2026 11:56

Thanks @Niminy I might try them. I’m 5’6” so they should ok.

ScallopShellWalk · 25/06/2026 11:57

@CakeAndJazz I have now just had a look at my wishlist. I see the same. A pair of trousers I had in my wishlist is now reduced but I don’t think I’ll buy them. I have them in a different colour and I think that’s enough. I had wondered about them at some point and thought maybe if they went in the sale but I can’t justify spending any more. I’ve over spent already. ☹️
Maybe some other toasties will get a quick sale before it goes on general sale.

Saurus72 · 25/06/2026 12:00

@Stoic123 I’ve been tempted by the berry colander for years! But why? I rinse berries in my lovely enamel colander then put it in the dishwasher. I keep looking at it tho…

triggers34 · 25/06/2026 12:04

Another sometimes poster mostly lurker .
late to the sales chat , I was quite spendy but the majority is going back .
I’m keeping the lofty alpaca cardigan and possibly the soy linen check dress , I also really like the soy linen barrels but the whole family tell they look like pyjamas so I will be returning them . I’ve enclosed a picture of all my items which may take a while to be visible .

Toasties looking forward to sun, summer and sales ☀️
ScallopShellWalk · 25/06/2026 12:19

@triggers34 the blue soya barrel trousers I tried on in the shop. I liked them but also thought they looked like pyjamas. However, I kept thinking about them. Since I wanted a pair of linen or linen/cotton trousers I ordered them in the sale. My son agreed they kind of look like pyjamas but by then I didn’t care what anyone else thought. I wore them out yesterday, I felt great in them and they kept me cool. I actually love them now.

triggers34 · 25/06/2026 13:00

@ScallopShellWalkthat’s good to hear . I’ve decided to keep the dress , the sizing though 😂 I read reviews and ordered a 12 . I normally need a 16 in normal not Toast clothes and my old faithfull Selma dress is an 18 admittedly roomy .
If any ones interested in returns the jumpers are both Mediim - (accidentally ordered 2 the same size ) itchy and weird length arms
The poncho I have the same in khaki and wear it all the time but decided I don’t need another . The jeans are lovely but a bit long for me and size 14 , the trousers are a medium - roomy I thing I’d have got away with a small .

Stoic123 · 25/06/2026 13:31

@Saurus72 - I wash fruit then keep them in fridge in same. Plus pretty!

IlovePond · 25/06/2026 13:51

@Stoic123 - I have been eyeing up that berry colander for a long time - it’s so lovely. Good idea about keeping fruit in it in the fridge!

I agree that I often get on better with Toast homeware - there are no sizing issues, for one! Plus some of it so lovely.

@triggers34 - I liked that soy linen dress very much on my top half, but sadly it was too voluminous on the bottom.

@OftenOrange I love my Toast nightwear. I try to buy the nightie and matching pjs so I can wear the nightie with pj bottoms and waft around my house and garden. Even better if I have the matching gown! The red floral is my favourite combo - and I wear the nightie, pj bottoms and gown all the time. I sometimes wear a couple of the less pj-y tops with shorts and venture outside in them!

Went back in and found a couple recently added things that I might
ike- a Cove bowl and the Railroad Stripe Skirt. If you filter by product type, e.g. by tableware rather than homeware, will bring up.

so lovely! I think would make me feel like I have my life together - plus scandi-esque chic

ScallopShellWalk · 25/06/2026 14:20

I sent back the just arrived Japanese indigo culottes. Lovely material, same as the jacket but apart from being to tight on the waist, I’m not enamoured by the silhouette. So I’m not planning on buying a bigger size.

I’m still pondering over the half placket indigo jumpsuit in the larger size. It’s slouchy but not sure about it. I’ll have a think. It is hard to try it on and like it in this heat.

ScallopShellWalk · 25/06/2026 14:39

I’m sickening myself with this sale.
I’m tempted to send back the Japanese indigo jacket. I can’t find acceptance for the colour transfer. I don’t want to have to wear all dark colours underneath just simply to wear it. ☹️ It is beautiful and I’m torn.
Of you who ordered this, have you kept it and am I being overly cautious? Plus I’m going to get caught in the rain for sure, I always do.

IlovePond · 25/06/2026 14:46

@ScallopShellWalk - good point about rain. You have reminded me that I once had a beautiful green cotton dress - I got caught at a theme park in Spain during torrential rain and within minutes looked like The Grinch!

ScallopShellWalk · 25/06/2026 14:53

@IlovePond
That’s a shame, but kind of amusing too. I have been turned blue with rain and denim but usually it runs down my my skin. If this happens with this jacket I’ll definitely ruin clothes. It’s hard as I really like it and truly value the Japanese indigo process and I know it transfers colour. I have a lovely feeling when I put it on but wondering if it’ll not actually get put on? Bottoms aren’t so bad, just trying to get my head around a jacket. Umbrella I guess. Maybe I’m worry too much, should just embrace it. I just do t want to waste money and a jacket never getting used.

IlovePond · 25/06/2026 14:58

It was quite funny @ScallopShellWalk but then I had to buy new clothes from the park gift shop to wear which everyone found even more amusing!

That jacket is lovely. I have a vague memory of someone on a previous thread talking about washing and rewashing Japanese denim with salt to help reduce dye transfer.

I’ve just ordered a pair of Fracap Zoe sandals. I love Fracap sandals and was thinking about ordering these earlier! I bought the Yves earlier in the year and whilst I am pleased with them, as they don’t have an ankle strap they making a slapping noise when I walk.

They are reduced to £120. I’m sure the men’s style went down to £100
