That caught me by surprise! We had a flurry!

I'd love to see the dress with the lace shrug removed.

Anne is wearing a yellow jacket with a floral skirt (and a cream wrap)

Hideous.

Lifestooshort71 · 06/06/2026 21:42

Anne's outfit? Well, I think it's her look in a nutshell and when they put a statue of her up on a plinth, this would totally be the look to go for (for some reason I can also see her tucked away in a comfy chair by a roaring fire, having a chat with Paddington Bear).

Recklessismymiddlename · 06/06/2026 21:43

Loving the AIBU!

Hideous.

It's not great - I'm wondering if it is a floral dress that she intended to wear with the wrap and, because of the weather, she grabbed an old yellow jacket out of the wardrobe?

I think Anne's choice for this future statue might be military uniform.

Black. With a large plumed hat, and a sword. On horseback.

I think most of the guest outfits were dull and a bit dreary overall. Nothing seemed spot on with any of the outfits. I don't like the bride's dress either, I thought it was very severe and not sure the veil was needed.
Thanks for the new thread Maireas, although I'm hopeless at following these days!

Have you been otherwise occupied, Frugal?.😉

I wonder if the plan is to remove the veil, the train, and the over-jacket for the reception. Just one slim column of silk, keeping the tiara of course. I think that would be very elegant.

justasking111 · 06/06/2026 23:41

There was a montage recently of Anne's various outfits over the years at weddings. She's worn some strange garments for them.

Choux · 07/06/2026 06:11

Anne’s dress is from 1986. And as has been said the hat is from Zara’s christening.

Reading the AIBU got me thinking that perhaps she has money but not MONEY ie she has the estate to run and now only has whatever trust income from the QM and late Queen plus supplementary income from Charles if she gets any. She looks healthy so could live to 100 plus she has two children and 5 grandchildren she would like to leave something to. I wouldn’t go to my son’s wedding in 40 year old clothes but perhaps she is getting a little bit eccentric about not wasting / spending money and making use of what you already have. Plenty of pensioners do.

I thought the bride looked lovely.
It wouldn’t be my choice as I don’t like all that lace and high neck. However, it was very fitting for the occasion and so too were the bridesmaids.
I thought everyone looked great.
I dislike low cut bridal dresses with lots of flesh on display.
Nice to have some happy news for a change.

As for Princess Anne’s outfit, I would be over the moon if I could fit in clothes from 40 years ago, seriously I’d be swinging from the rooftops.

The dress is quite nice and would've been fine with pale gloves and a different jacket. The rain was predicted for several days and I'm sure Anne had a better jacket in her extensive wardrobe. And she is hardly in the same situation as other pensioners across the country - she can definitely afford a new jacket!

I think it's less what she can afford, more what she already has to hand 😉.
I'm.just surprised it wasn't something bought from Susan Small in 1973. (perhaps it was!)

Actually that dress is ok, I quite like the cut outs. Perhaps she was just going to wear that and the hat, which would have been fine.

Anyway who knows, perhaps she ditched jacket and pashmina and had a boogie at the evening reception!

Choux · 07/06/2026 07:14

We all seem to agree that we wouldn’t wear that ensemble to our son’s wedding. But Anne is Anne perhaps with other priorities than buying new clothes and if she thought it was fine and her son thought she looked ok then all is good.

Meanwhile the Pope is in Spain and Leti exercised her privilege du blanc while her daughters dressed in black. It’s a lovely white dress but with her daughters in shorter / sleeker styles she looks, to my eyes, slightly reminiscent of yesterday’s teenage bridesmaids.

Leti is also wearing the kind of shoes yesterday’s bridesmaids could have worn. Savannah must be nearly 16 now isn’t she? Mia Tindall was sporting silver (matching her mother) kitten heels and I think she is 14.

Me too.
However my clothes would be nicer than Anne’s.
Just sayin.
And I’m really not one to boast.
Plus I would be 2 stone at least lighter than I am now.
@Maireasthank you for the new thread.
With the excitement of the new thread and all the wedding chat I forgot my manners. 😮

Pope Leo is getting some schmoozing from the Crowned Heads of Europe. I like Leti's dress better than the one from the previous Papal visit, plus no veil.
Leti's current footwear is usually very good, I agree that the low heeled silver shoes were good, and possibly better for teen bridesmaids than ballerina flats.

Letizia's white dress seems to overwhelm her but it looked better in video footage than in photos.
