What size should I be

I know everyone is different but if you are 5ft 6 and weigh 14st 4lbs roughly what size would you think you would be.

Depends on the store, body shape, and muscle mass/how toned a person is. Age can be relevant too, particularly in terms of body shape and muscle mass.

There is no such thing as ‘should be’ when it comes to sizes.

And @alexandrasm - there is no need to call that poster stupid because her answer differs with the size that fits your particular body. I’m also 5’3” and I need an 18 for anything which has to fit around my middle. I weigh nearly 5 stones less than you do.

Squirrelchops1 · 09/05/2026 10:16

Are you using WLI OP? I only ask as I lost weight in different places to usual.
Usually it's straight off my abdomen but on WLI it seemed to take longer. I suppose I am older though so peri may have had an impact.
Well done though on 4 stones off

Shinyhappyapple · 09/05/2026 10:16

@Lara96
I feel your pain regarding your shape/size. I’m a couple of sizes up from when I was last this weight. For me it’s about my age and lack of muscle mass/ toning. I suspect you are a lot younger than me though.

Yes but 1lb of muscle weighs the same as 1lb of fat, so muscle doesn’t weigh more than fat.

That’s really just being pedantic though isn’t it, because everyone knows what people mean when they say that. The same visual amount of muscle would weigh less than the same visual amount of fat.

MaybeIamJustABitch · 09/05/2026 10:36

I’ve given up on size ‘labels’ at the ripe old age of 52. I have 3 adult nieces (they are sisters) and clothing size labels mean everything to them and their friends. A size 8 or 10 is superior in their world, age group etc.

I wear whatever’s comfortable, regardless of the size label. Yes, I do get frustrated/pee’d off when I might be a ‘12’ because that’s what x,y,z says/suggests but I’m not going to die in a ditch when the ‘12’ can’t get past my ankles (trousers as example, but the concept applies to pretty much all brands of clothing these days).

I'm the same weight as you, 5'2", and wear 6/8 in multiple shops but managed a 14 top at M&S outlet, couldn't even zip up size 8 jeans from there but 6 in Per Una! Who can say why!?

That's really weird. There's no way I could ever squeeze into a 6 or 8 from any shop, even with my current weight loss. We must be very different shapes. I think I am either a "fat" hourglass ( I do have some waist) or an apple. I do carry a lot of weight on my tummy but also have large boobs. What kind of shape are you. Do you do a lot of working out where maybe the weight is from muscle?

PinkArt · 11/05/2026 11:16

I'm 5'7" and a 16 at around that weight. I had a look at my weightloss progress pics (I started about a stone heavier than you did) and was still carrying a lot of tummy fat at that weight though - more than when I was that weight on the way up. It started to balance up proportions-wise once I was down to the 13 stones.
Give it time, try not to stress about the number on the label and carry on carrying on.

Probably a combination of muscle and some of my weight is from 93kg+ weight loss and the resultant excess skin. I don't know. I do know other people my height and weight, that haven't lost as much as I have or never needed to, and wear the same size so maybe it's fat amount/distribution/body shape, too.

Edited to add: or shops making up sizes and making them all completely irrelevant

I did visit Levis yesterday and tried their cinch wide leg jeans and wore 25wx31l which, according to Levis, equates to a size 4-6 on their website but the shop told me 25wx31l equated to a 6-8. Who knows.

crazymare20 · 11/05/2026 15:12

I’m same height and was a size 16 when I was that weight.

AliciaMay · 11/05/2026 19:06

Beginning to wonder if I maybe have Fibroids.

NeedWineNow · 11/05/2026 22:48

That's my height and my weight at the moment and I'm wearing a 14/16 depending on what shop I go to.

I weigh a stone less and I’m 18-20!

Lara96 · 08/05/2026 22:36

So the reason I am asking is at my heaviest I was 18 stone 3 and now I am 14 stone 4lb and my abdomen looks the exact same and a size 22 is tight. I don’t remember being this size the last time i was this weight.

Edited

Have you seen the GP for anything recently Lara?

It might be worth making an appointment, any other unusual gyni symptoms?

For ages now whenever I lie down I feel a heavy weight/pressure on my pelvis like something is pushing down on me.

I think you would be a 16?

I’m the same height and 12st 6 and I’m a 16. So… 18/20?

Then I would make an appointment, get yourself checked out.
Very well done on the weight loss.
