Ideas for a flattering London summer wedding dress after a split

PithyBeaker · 20/04/2026 13:02

I would LOVE some ideas for gorgeous dresses that might work for a London summer wedding. Context is that I just split from partner I was expecting to go to the wedding with so I’d like to look smashing and like I DNGAF. I’m not much of one for dressing up and have nothing to wear. The couple are old friends from uni and there will be many old faces there. I’m almost 5,10 (so most dresses in shops are too short) and a size 10. Don’t want to wear heels. Thanks in advance!!!

Oooh I LOVE the Samira dress.

I love the Kindred of Ireland dress. The Samiro dress looks run of the mill in comparison.

A lot of beautiful dresses on this thread but to capture the effortlessly stunning dgaf vibe the OP's wins hands down. The rest looks too formal.

Check out Khanum dresses!

Me and Em dresses are fab if you are tall...

Most are under £500. This one is over but is stunning - Atonement vibes:

this is gorgeous

Yes it's gorgeous. But I don't understand how anyone can say it's a DGAF dress which is what the op asked for.

Admittedly I didn't rate Diana's 'revenge' dress either. I laughed out loud when I saw it but I don't think it gave out the message she wanted to give.

LiquidSquid · Yesterday 09:03

I was taking 'DGAF, I'd like to look smashing' as something really stunning & 'wow' (whatever a wow dress is to you!) but I know it can be also taken like 'I will wear what I like & DGAF what you think'.

Anyway I was going to suggest these (may be too pale) Green dress from Coast. Darker Green also from Coast.
Teal from New Look.
Red from JJs house

This one?

Each to their own, but to me that's a "bought it for my summer beach holiday to wear in the evening and I'm determined to get the wear out of it" dress. It's casual and a dress I probably wouldn't even clock if I saw it at a wedding.

I would hire something from the vampire’s wife or another beautiful designer and then you could really go to town without blowing the budget
And you could spend £300 get your hair done nails spray tan whatever you fancy
Better for the environment too

Eucatastrophilia · Yesterday 10:16

The Vampire’s Wife shut down two years ago - and even then had long ago become a visual cliche. Every single person who could buy or hire one of the dresses had already done so and been shown all over SM in it. It’s absolutely the last thing I would choose right now if I wanted to give an impression of my vibrant, thriving new life.

(Apart from lumpy cotton dresses or 1980s chiffon.)

OP is tall, slim and dark - she will look knockout in that dress in addition to laid back and relaxed. OP go big with the accessories.

The model is tall, slim and dark. It's an uninspiring and uninspired dress.

I’m three inches shorter and an 8, so we probably look similar, I’ve long legs, dark hair, These would be my choice.

keep it classy and elegant, don’t go all out sexy, you will look too try hard and feel self concious.

The first & third are lovely - but the first is, IMO, perfect in every way. It will imbue insouciance upon its wearer - which is exactly what I think is needed!

The artsy flora one is unattractive in the middle area

Angrybird76 · Yesterday 16:22

I know this isn't the point but I am always amazed that someone would spend £750 on ONE DRESS! (from one of the suggestions) Just blows my mind. Anyway I rather like ghost London for boho wedding chic, but their new collection isnt that great. This one is nice: Ghost Kallie Cross Back Satin Maxi Dress, Peach

What’s the sizing like for Rixo?

Carerofhedgehog · Yesterday 18:38

I would look at the net a porter, mytheresa or Joseph. All have sales on. Measurements are always included and higher end stuff is generally longer.

These are all bloody lovely! Most of the others linked are far too long, glam, evening-y and try hard for a London wedding, I would have thought (unless it is specifically black tie.)

PithyBeaker · 20/04/2026 15:13

This is lovely, amazing cut - but I’m not a pink-wearer (although that is a gorgeous shade of it and not at all wishy washy)

You’d look like a bridesmaid!
