Ideas for a flattering London summer wedding dress after a split

I would LOVE some ideas for gorgeous dresses that might work for a London summer wedding. Context is that I just split from partner I was expecting to go to the wedding with so I’d like to look smashing and like I DNGAF. I’m not much of one for dressing up and have nothing to wear. The couple are old friends from uni and there will be many old faces there. I’m almost 5,10 (so most dresses in shops are too short) and a size 10. Don’t want to wear heels. Thanks in advance!!!

Good shout. I quite like this but is it too casual for a wedding 🤔 farmrio.uk/products/artsy-flora-red-short-sleeve-midi-dress

I think this is perfect for a summer wedding in London, unless it’s at Claridges or somewhere demanding black tie. Get it if you love it!!!

I think Rixo is poor quality despite the price tags. Farm Rio however is always sensational quality.

Comes in several other colours! It's a fabulous dress. I like that it says in the product details "May cause compliments"!!!

Yes, I agree, look at the other variations on that site, they are gorgeous and it sounds as if, with a figure like yours, you would definitely be raking in the compliments and feeling confident in yourself!

But is it poor taste to wear red to a wedding? Bit desperate/scarlet woman vibes??

I know it's nonsense but I agree. There's something a bit try hard about bright red in this situation. I'd go more stealth.

Great colour and I like the loose T shirt sleeves but hate the neck… droopy cowl is not the one I think

How about this?

This is very flattering, but classy. Loads of other choices in the same label (Saloni) though.

😂This did actually happen to me once in a black halter neck dress which was similar, I stood up to let someone past at the dinner and then someone else moved the chair as I sat back down and ended up on the floor. As if that wasn't humiliating enough it wasn't until I stood back up that I realised that my tits had escaped in the process. So fair point.

Nah not even remotely. I’ve seen that shade quite a lot at weddings. Lots of bright block colour dresses at London weddings, and I think the scarlet woman thing might have been an issue in 1956 but not 2026! I think you might look a bit like you were on the prowl if you wore one of the low cut silky halter neck styles some have recommended just because weddings here aren’t usually as formal.

I love it, and it’s all in the accessories. Flat sandals and a good jacket if it’s cooler, maybe some big statement earrings if that’s your thing. I think you’d look stylish/arty not desperate!

merryandbrightdelight · 20/04/2026 21:59

Ohhh this is gorgeous!

I say, after trying on clothes, sulking they are too small for me, then proceeding to eat many biscuits. You’re wearing the dress (maybe not this one, but the ‘WOW’ dress) for us all, op! Smash it!

I bet people are still talking about that ...!!

No, it’s fabulous - a chance to wear outrageous shoes and jewellery!

Although it’s called ‘red dress’ it’s almost more orange than red, I don’t think anyone would read anything into it!
