What to wear on my massive feet?!

Please help me!

I’ve lost weight (I was obese this time last year).

Last year I was dressing older than my years. I looked frumpy. Lived in dresses and white trainers. The horror 😂

This year, I want to dress more nicely. I have some wide leg jeans which I love.

But what do I wear with dresses?!

Im 6’ tall, so prefer no heels. White trainers are apparently out. I have big feet (size 9) and also ugly feet. So hesitant to wear flat sandals that would make my feet look bigger and expose them!

I can’t win, can I?!

Well done on the weight loss (unless its through ill health).

I'd have no idea what was in fashion. I have hobbit wide feet, so have my own issues with shoes! A tiny peep toe can make the shoe look shorter. I don't mean where all your toes hang out, but a tiny V at the end of the shoe. I shall link to what I mean if I can find an example.

Mary janes might work. Can you wear slip on flat shoes?

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 10/04/2026 10:05

Size 8 here and sadly Mary Janes look huge on my feet, something to do with the large expanse of foot between the strap and front of shoe.
I wear mostly trainers with dresses and am not afraid to say that! Never white though, colours and metallic.
Gabor Lanzarote sandals come in our sizes and different colours, are comfy and good in hot weather if you don't mind having your toes out.

I'm a similar height with size 43 not beautiful feet OP so get it. I spend money on podiatrist visits and then either pay for or diy a pedicure too to keep them as nice as possible. I generally wear various colours adidas (burgundy, green, beige) and birkies or similar from next. I ordered made to measure greek sandals from an etsy seller. I've just bought some slim tevas sandals which I really like. Granted these are casual not dressier which is harder!

bungobungobungo · 10/04/2026 10:30

If trainers, go for nice darker colours with stripes across eg plum and navy maybe?

I'm surprised at your experience with Mary Janes - my feet aren't big at a size 5 but when I bought a pair in the past they made my feet look tiny! Maybe it depends on where the strap is... higher, lower, in the middle?

I had something like these for work, very comfortable!

I'm 5'11" with size 9 feet, so I feel your pain! I don't wear wide-leg jeans, so no idea if these would work, but Superga Cotu trainers make my feet look much smaller than any other shoe (confirmed by my husband asking if I was wearing the correct size as they look tiny). I have them in navy and black, not sure if the lighter colours would have the same effect.

Phineyj · 10/04/2026 12:01

I've got some of these, which might work? I didn't actually realise they were men's when I bought them.

Or FitFlop would be worth a look.

Verv · 10/04/2026 15:43

Vans.

Villanellesproudmum · 10/04/2026 15:44

Ah sorry noted size 9 they only go up to 8.

AnotherEmma · 10/04/2026 15:49

My feet are size 8 (EU 42) and it is tricky so I can imagine 9/43 is harder.

I live in Birkenstocks in the summer; the men's and women's styles are similar enough and I'm sure you could find some you like in 43.

Also, as PPs have said, trainers - just not white!

AnotherEmma · 10/04/2026 15:54

These are lovely, big straps so not much foot on show, and they go up to 43 (although OOS atm)

Have you looked at Long Tall Sally? They have a huge range of styles, not all to my taste personally (but I am fussy about shoes!) and quite a few nice trainers and sandals.

Converse-style trainers might look good in summer:

Why bother posting? Your feet are size 5 and you shared a link to a style that only goes up to size 8. OP clearly said she is size 9!!!

Why bother posting?

Because I was replying directly to a poster who clearly said she is a size 8 !!!

YouOKHun · 10/04/2026 16:42

My SiL is size 9 and it really is tricky as most maufacturers in the UK only offer up to size 8. She’s lives in Holland where they go to bigger sizes but she never shops for shoes in the UK because it’s so limited.

I’m size 8 and I agree about flat Mary Jane shoes not being that flattering (at least not on my feet). The same goes for ballet flats. I don’t know whether a double strap Mary Jane might break up the length of foot a bit. I also tend to go for coloured trainers. I agree with @NeedABoat about Superga being flattering and there is lots of sizing flexibility. I like the flatforms. Lots of nice colours.

I'm 6'0 with size 8 feet. I wear converse day to day! They have a good size range.

Also Dr marten sandals have some quite modest sandals. Modest isn't the right word, but they don't show a lot of foot is what I mean lol.

AnotherEmma · 10/04/2026 17:06

Thanks to this thread, I've decided that I need a new pair of Birkenstocks Grin To be fair, my current pair is 3 years old and the once-brown footbeds are now black Confused

I'm going to try some Floridas this time as I think they'll be flattering on big feet. Lots of good colours to choose from.

I have size 8 feet and don’t mind them, particularly as shops are much better at catering for bigger feet now. Although I have found it is better to go into individual stores than department stores - Selfridges being particularly rubbish at stocking larger shoes (I guess given limited space). How about neat trainers (suede or leather) with a zip, sandals of course with a dress or flat points look elegant and cover your feet if you want to /for a little warmth
