What to wear on my massive feet?!

OrangeKettle · 10/04/2026 09:32

Please help me!

I’ve lost weight (I was obese this time last year).

Last year I was dressing older than my years. I looked frumpy. Lived in dresses and white trainers. The horror 😂

This year, I want to dress more nicely. I have some wide leg jeans which I love.

But what do I wear with dresses?!

Im 6’ tall, so prefer no heels. White trainers are apparently out. I have big feet (size 9) and also ugly feet. So hesitant to wear flat sandals that would make my feet look bigger and expose them!

I can’t win, can I?!

Size 43 wide feet here.. I have to pay quite a lot.
Try Gabor, Remonte, Reiker, Next , Ara shoes, After 8 shoes, Magnus
Some times JD Williams and Mariosota and strangely Amazon.
I like Loafers to cover my ugly feet.

Illdoittommorow · 11/04/2026 12:46

PS what people with smaller feet don't realize is that shoe designers just seem to make larger sizes bigger in all dimensions. What they need to do is scale down the front of the uppers for example, That's why Mary Janes don't size up well. Plain uppers not good for large feet a bit of detail works better visually.
Sargossa and Grey if you have a huge budget!

Worthalltheyears · 11/04/2026 13:38

I’m 5’10’’ and have a size 9 foot. My feet are in proportion to my height and I’m guessing that yours will be too.
I buy most of my shoes from Next. The stores don’t stock the size 9 but if you have a look on the website, there is a really good selection to choose from.

FraZles · 11/04/2026 13:46

I love strive. I am taller than you. Get yourself a full pedi too, to help you love your feet.

NB the size 9 fits my size 10.5!

Roughly old are you OP? Not that it’s enormously important, but along with your general style vibe it might influence some suggestions, eg probably not going to suggest Salomon XT6s to a very classic/preppy dresser in her 60s, but might to a mum in her 30s in barrel legs and funky fleeces…

FWIW this is my specialist area as the owner of a pair of size 43s…

ChequerToRed · 11/04/2026 14:45

I’m 5’8 with size 8-9 feet depending on the brand. I’m also very fashion conscious, though I do live in trainers.
My avoid like the plague list is; any white shoes, flatforms unless they’re something like a extra high top Converse or have a wide look, flip-flops, some ballet flats unless they have a pointed or very round toe, some lace up derby or Oxford styles unless they have something like have a wide toe box. It’s all about emphasising width to balance out the length.
I’m a big fan of a really chunky trainer or closed toe sports sandal with a heavy and detailed sole (Adidas Terrex Hydros are fantastic, not cheap but mine are about to see their third summer). For a really light weight trainer that’s good for marching about in during the summer I really love Fei Yue shoes, they have a nice round toe box and a classic oldskool canvas plimsoll look, and the design doesn’t make them look long. Plus they're really cheap as cult trainer brands go and seemingly indestructible. For something a bit fancier Shoe Embassy does some great trainers in bold patterns that are beautiful quality, plus their standard style is more like a trainer soled lace up so they work with a less casual look.

Pinkflamingo10 · 11/04/2026 16:18

I have size 7/7.5 feet that are v wide. They hate high street shoes. Everything ends up pinching somewhere.

I get lovely comfortable shoes and casual trainer type shoes from SoleBliss online. They do standard and wide fits and go up and including size 9. So so comfortable!

I'm surprised at your experience with Mary Janes - my feet aren't big at a size 5 but when I bought a pair in the past they made my feet look tiny! Maybe it depends on where the strap is... higher, lower, in the middle?

I had something like these for work, very comfortable!

Not useful when the biggest size is an 8!
I am a size 10 and feel your pain op. I have some black peeptoe sandals this year but luce in ballerina shoes and coloured trainers.

Laurmolonlabe · 12/04/2026 01:53

You need a bit of heel maybe 2inches or so to balance things out,try Flamenco shoes from a dance shoe supplier. You are used to being tall and inch or two extra won't hurt and will make your feet look smaller.

LGBirmingham · 12/04/2026 07:10

Your very tall op, I think your feet probably look in proportion not big. I think don't worry about it and buy whatever shoes you like.

For context my dad was 5ft10 and had size 12 feet. That is big!

PistachioTiramisu · 12/04/2026 08:28

Size 8 very wide feet here! I struggle to find anything half pretty to wear and I hate it. I live in Giesswein Merino Wool Runners - they are soft and comfortable and come in a nice range of colours. They don't advertise it but if you use code UK25 you get 25% off. Do have a look at them - they are also machine washable.

Claudiasfringebenefits · 12/04/2026 08:49

I’m a size 8 and you can win! Your feet are in proportion to your height. I think darker trainers with your wide leg style.
However generally now I’m in my 40s I only wear comfortable shoes (99% flat and fitted) and I’m glad my feet doing their job moving me around and keeping me balanced 😆

AnotherEmma · 10/04/2026 16:25

Why bother posting? Your feet are size 5 and you shared a link to a style that only goes up to size 8. OP clearly said she is size 9!!!

A Sketchers size 8 is EU 41, as well. They used to do 42 and 43 in their women's ranges, which was great as they had pump type shoes which were comfy as trainers and perfect for wearing with a dress on city breaks, but I can't buy them now, only the men's.

OP, have you looked at Converse?

Ferryphile · 12/04/2026 12:21

I have size 9s and have just bought some ‘Fitflop’ vintage style trainers tags look trainers. I bought urban white and fawn for choice, and kept them both. They’re incredibly comfortable and very neat looking. Would be great with dresses or trousers.

Sherbetlemon43 · 12/04/2026 14:18

I am a size 9 with wide feet and I wear TOMS in the summer with dresses etc, always go for a men’s size 10 and honestly you can’t tell that they are men’s and make my feet look smaller.

PullyDog · 12/04/2026 14:18

I can honestly say with my entire being I have never once looked at someone and thought they should not be wearing sandles.

Have you? Have you really gone out of your way to think or say 'my lord, put those away?'

Wear the flip flops. No one cares about your ugly feet, no one is going to be looking at them longer than a few seconds, and no one is ever going to care enough to say something. Don't punish yourself by not having a little bit of comfort!

You'll feel self conscious the first few times, and then you just won't! No different to changing your style, or wearing that first dress out.

Yellowpapersun · 12/04/2026 14:32

My cousin is tall and has size 9 feet and as a hairdresser she's on them all the time. She wears Hotters sandals and I was surprised how nice they are. She got lovely pointy shoes with a lowish heel and slingback from Clarks for a wedding. They look really elegant. She is the very opposite of frumpy!

AfternoonVanessa · 12/04/2026 15:27

The poster was replying to another poster who was a size 8, she wasn’t responding to the OP and has already said this upthread.

Sorry O P just checked Ellie Dickinson has recently closed.

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 12/04/2026 16:06

I’ve got big feet and a couple of pairs of these in different colours. I think the platform effect makes them look less boat like. They’re supremely comfortable too.

I’ve got massive feet too! I feel your pain!

I’d suggest - yours, Evans, SHEIN, simply be & JD Williams. Vinted is good for older styles.

Kurt Gieger do up to a 10, some gorgeous trainers and sandals. Some of the Dr Martens sandals are up to a 10 too.

I love trainers and live in converse, vans and Nikes. My fave sandals are Tevas. I also wear crocs as these are unisex and I can cover them in sparkly bits. Dr martens and Uggs in the winter - again unisex styles. I hate wearing heels which helps. I have to admit it I find shoes/boots I love I buy a few pairs as it’s such a pain finding them.

I even had a look at some of the trans shoes but sadly they are all PVC and ridiculously high heels. I really think stylish and affordable large size is a huge gap in the market ready for someone to make a killing.

Lobsterteapot · 12/04/2026 21:11

Also to echo a pp - I’ve never looked at someone’s feet and thought “they shouldn’t be wearing those” 😃
Buy comfy shoes, get a pedicure and enjoy your life cos quite honestly no-one gives a shit 😂

Minime88888888 · 13/04/2026 01:06

I don't think that you can have big feet. You're 6ft and a size 9. That means that they are small by proportion to your height. Get a pedicure and polish they'll look much nicer. Moisturise them and love them, they are your life transport.
I'm 5ft9 with size 9 feet - proper size 43 not a 42. I can really only fit Next and Aldo, my feet aren't wide, just long. I wear all shoes but being 47 now I dont do almond toes as they often look frumpy on over 40's. Points are good. Block low heels and lots of colour. Shoes and handbags are the things that you can always go to town on no matter age or size.
Video yourself wearing different shoes. Check out how you really look. Comfort is key and that is often achieved by purchasing quality not necessarily the heel height. Im currently wearing low block heeled ballet styles in array of spring colours with my wide leg jeans - ensuring that the jeans are on the ankle so the shoes are seen and not swamped by the leg. Do you have nice ankles? If so this is the golden age to show them off. Summer is here. X
