Although fewer, there are definitely bigger Spanish women that wear small bikinis though. The elderly too. It’s true they aren’t as pale.

in any case, I don’t think the OP needs to worry about covering her waist, she could have a more supportive bra (and that would highlight her waist more) though.

Jacopo · 03/04/2026 09:59

I saw the flowers-that-look-like-nipples (or eyes) immediately but I'm trained to look for things like pattern matching etc. I do like the striped one and I thinks it suits you OP. However I also imagined filling in the gap between the top and the bottom with the striped material and I do think that would look better still, so the idea of a patterned one-piece suit is what I think you should consider.

Yeah agree - I don’t think she needs to cover her waist either.

ThisJadeBear · 03/04/2026 10:20

Not suggesting OP needs this but I like:

  1. the shape of the top/support/has a more sporty feel
  2. the bottoms are cut slightly higher. This is on sale in Next. Might not be the colour for OP but I think a solid colour with some texture and a sporty feel would really suit OP. Make those fab long legs look even longer and highlight her lovely shoulders as well.

I disagree. Bikinis show her skin but they don't lengthen her torso and actually make her look shorter (cut in half.)

Exactly, there’s no lengthening going on here and it doesn’t show off OPs waist at all. It actually looks like the bottoms are just providing a hammock for her tummy and making her look larger than she probably is.

Everyone going on about the black one piece… there’s literally a million and one different styles and colour of one piece swimwear that would suit OP far better and provide support for boobs, streamlining of waist and curves etc. and draw attention away from wobbly bits, and towards great features like OPs legs.

This thread is so bizarre - either OP is being monumentally gaslit by posters on here, or people actually think that tummies that look like they’re being held up by a hammock and boobs that have zero support look good? I’m a size 10 to 12 and I wouldn’t in a million years wear something like this when there are so many other flattering styles to choose from.

There is a huge amount of gaslighting going on this thread.

EspanaPorfavor · 03/04/2026 10:57

They are different garments though, a one piece and a bikini are different things. The OP wants a bikini, she’s bought a bikini. Would people be suggesting trousers on a thread about skirts?

OP does not say she wants a bikini. She asked if she looked good in the ones that she had tried on and shared.

And my answer to that is no, they do absolutely nothing for her figure and there’s far more flattering styles for her.

I agree.

But I'm confused.

In those photos everyone is talking about the OP's waist.

Is the OP's waist under the bikini top or hidden under the bikini bottoms?

Your waist is roughly an inch above your belly button.

Edited

Listen, I’m confused too, this thread is 🤯

So my understanding is your waist in the narrowest part of torso, under your ribs and just above your bellybutton. I think this swimwear shows about an inch or two of waist either side, but it’s totally overshadowed by the cropped top drawing all the attention to the stomach at the front.

A one piece would not draw all the attention to the stomach in this way from the front, and would actually accentuate OPs waist.

CharlotteRumpling · 03/04/2026 11:29

Why do we need to accentuate our waists?

Fundraiser12345 · 03/04/2026 11:30

Thanks again everyone i appreciate the honesty, i know im over weigh and am 5ft 2. I taken the advice and currently looking at other options,

since my second child I’ve completely lost my sense of style and myself due to my huge weight gain, so yeah thanks again for all the tips and kind comments ☺️☺️

There are two ways to look at this:
Try to look as thin as possible, accentuate your good points, hide your flaws, wear only flattering clothes..

Or wear prints and colours and styles you like, without worrying about how flattering they are.

Both viewpoints are fine, I think.

Comedycook · 03/04/2026 11:45

Your figure is not the problem. The problem imo is the flimsy, unsupportive fabric and the colour/pattern. I'm surprised so many on here like the floral. The colours look really drab with the ops colouring. I also think the combination of tattoos and the pattern looks clashing. A plain supportive bikini in a jewel green/khaki/navy/bright orange would look a million times better.

OriginalUsername2 · 03/04/2026 11:46

I think some people are really overthinking it. OP looks lovely in both, no one at the pool will be scrutinising what sits where, what material is used and if her skin tone is complimented.

Onmytod24 · 03/04/2026 11:49

Aluna · 02/04/2026 21:25

Here, I’ve created an image of OP in a black underwired swimsuit with a bit of light fake tan. Compare with the original bikini pic. See what you think OP.

It’s strange how the same picture can provoke its different reactions the black swimsuit yeah it’s fine if you’re a teacher taking a class of children but it’s absolutely boring looking and if you’re on a beach with your own children I think the floral one is perfect

fairylightsanon · 03/04/2026 11:55

I’m bigger than you but this is one I got from Elomi that I really like (ignore the armpit bulge, I hadn’t scooped properly!)
it depends on your boob size but curvy Kate do great bikinis too

We don’t need to do anything, but many people like to accentuate their waists because it’s generally regarded to be a flattering look by the vast majority of humans.

Also, as my username hints, I live in Spain.

from my observations the only people in one pieces are Brits on holiday. (I’m not against one pieces I have a gorgeous boden one!) It’s quite sad and I don’t know the reason but British people tend to lack body confidence compared to Spanish and other nationalities (and they also come in all shapes and sizes). In the heat, bikinis are more comfortable, nothing worse than damp hot black fabric on your midriff when in 30 degree heat.

I agree. Spanish women of all ages seem confident in their bodies and bikinis. I'm mid 70s, size 14/16 with only one boob and a tummy and I love Spanish beaches with their women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Back to the OP, I prefer the one on the right as the floral one reminds me of a Chilprufe vest for some reason 😁 but think you look good in both.

The support in the bust is fab! This suit looks great on you.

Posters are overanalysing the black, it was just to show one piece is more flattering. I also posted some patterned versions.

It depends on usage - for lengths in a pool black is practical, for a holiday, pattern is more fun.

@Fundraiser12345 Have a look at Boden.
They have their swimsuits listed by tummy control, bust support etc.

The Porto swimsuit is lovely - lots of colours and the 'band' under the chest creates a waist.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/04/2026 12:05

No you look gorgeous shapely and curvy

Franpie · 03/04/2026 12:13

So many people on this thread are projecting.

OP did not say she wants to hide her “wobbly” bits, make her waist look smaller, distract from her stomach, or require support.

Maybe she just wants her body to look like her body? Maybe, unlike some PP, she isn’t ashamed of her body? Maybe she’s not planning to do much more than sit by the pool so doesn’t need a supportive top? Maybe Shein is all she can afford?

She just wanted to know if she looks nice. And all these PP’s coming along basically saying she looks fat and offering advice on how to either cover up more by wearing a one piece or how to look slimmer or look as though she has perkier boobs.

We really don’t need men to run us down ladies when we do such a good job at running each other down.

OP, you look lovely, wear with your head held high.

EspanaPorfavor · 03/04/2026 09:24

no, Spanish women can’t be accused of not giving a FF about how they look.

There is just generally less of the concept that being bigger is a flaw that needs to be hidden, which sadly a lot of British women seem to believe.

I agree with you on this point and it applies to many nationalities - they wear bikinis regardless of age, size, scars, tightness of skin, varicose veins etc. It is an attitude that I have adopted after years of being very self conscious about looks being reared by a mother who was obsessed with that. It's a good thing.
However there are many young women in the UK now who are overweight and it seems not to be addressed or even seen as a bad thing. It's framed as " body positivity" when in fact it is poor health.
I am in a style group on FB and people post on there and like on here people are telling them how wonderful they look because it's against the rules to say OMG NO! Yes there are ways of saying things nicely but I do think there are people on here going the other way.
