I think a slightly stronger colour would look better

LouiseK93 · 05/04/2026 18:37

The flowery ones flatter you much better!
I remember watching Gok Wans show years back and one bit of advice i never forgot was horizontal stripes make you look wider and vertical stripes make you look slimmer.

No not at all

I would say that your skin appears really quite light. I don’t wear white/pastel/light colours against my skin as it makes me look washed out. This may be the case for you, it’s quite hard to tell - but I’m referring to the left hand photo particularly. I would say a contrast is better: black, navy, deep jewel colours such as dark red/dark green, potentially a deep brown depending on the colour of your hair/how colours generally look on your skin/hair tone. Because the other one also contains white/light, I have the same reservations about that as well.

Neither complement your body.
Horizontal stripes are really unflattering. A gingham pattern would be better for the vintage style look.

The flower one is also no good because like the stripey one, they are shapeless.

i think you’d look smashing in a structured one piece. Look up Ashley Graham one piece swimming and click on images for inspiration. You’re very much like her in body type.

floral one better disguises the contours
the other one emphasises them becuase it has straight lines in the fabric which therefore show the curves

Disguises the contours? OP has a nice curvaceous plus size figure, she shouldn’t be hiding it.

she just needs the right swimsuit. Something like these.

LOL, you are the one who just before me said that horizontal stripes "are really unflattering" and then you go and post photos of horizontal stripes

What I noticed from my time in Spain is that Spanish women tend to be slimmer (and less pale) though.

If they were on average the size of many British women - do you think there would be more Spanish women bothered about showing their weight on the beach?

Edited

I spend a lot of time travelling around and there are always plenty of larger, and older women walking around in two pieces when I’ve visited Spain (and other places too).
And what’s with the comment about pale skin? It’s not really acceptable to be implying that some skin tones are worse than others now, is it?

If you read this thread some people ARE bothered about showing pale skin and or larger bodies and have commented on skin tone & weight in relation to wearing bikinis.

If you look upthread I did not comment on either when I said OP looks good in her bikinis.

however it’s a fact that it IS an issue for some people. So my point was questioning if Spanish women are less worried about showing their body than Brits because they are (on average) more tanned and slimmer.

Yes, some people are bothered about THEIR skin. But YOU were making a general comment about pale skin.

Spanish women are more tanned because that’s what is natural for them. The women with larger/older bodies are still walking around in two pieces though.

Yes, some people are bothered about THEIR skin.

At least one poster has indicated they think Op will look better with a tan. I didn’t.

Not sure what your point is about “making a general comment” but as I’ve said, some people (including multiple posters on this thread) have a hang up about pale skin in bikinis and/or think they or others will look better with a tan.

So my point was questioning if this could affect people’s confidence to wear bikinis. FTR I was not saying pale skin or larger bodies SHOULD affect their confidence - hence I said Op looks great.

Yeah..I am aware they more naturally tanned…

fatphalange · 07/04/2026 11:45

No! I’m not as keen on the floral set but that’s personal preference…I’m a devil for a stripe! Hand on heart, you look great.

PhaedraTwo · 07/04/2026 12:32

I don't like tanned skin. It makes me think of wrinkles, skin cancer and dodgy tanning salons which are probably a front for money laundering. Fake tan looks fake as bits are tanned and bits aren't.

I also don't like bikinis - never have, even when I was a size 6 or 8. They're a faff and one pieces are far better for swimming in.

I'm thrilled to see that so many of you, should I have the misfortune of being on a beach with you, will be judging the pale skinned British woman who (in your mind) lacks body confidence.

If you can’t see the difference between the stripes in the two swimsuits you’re hardly a good fashionista. The first had parallel equal width stripes, the second has curved smaller tie dye marks.

Any form of horizontal stripe will emphasise contours because the distance between the stripes will visibly increase where the fabric stretches over curves. You do not have to be a fashionista to know how swimsuit fabric "works" .
