I need some help please

If your 5ft 8/9 and weigh 10st to 11st (I’m 10st 10) what clothing size do you wear?

I’ve lost a significant amount of weight and went clothes shopping properly in actual shops to work out what size I am, in one shop I tried on so many different sizes and nothing fitted right, one shop a I couldn’t get into a size 16 yet a size 14 top was massive, surely I should be a comfortable 12 or 14? Zara was incredibly inconsistent and make me feel like I was still too big to wear their clothes (need some for work)

I know a lot depends on body shape which I am still trying to work out but I’m at a loss and it’s made me incredibly nervous about shopping again

I’m a size 12

5ft 10 and 11.5 stone - I’m everything from 12-16 depending on the shop! My baseline is a 14. I’ve got a massive rib cage which doesn’t help with tops and trousers entirely depend on the cut and the fit. If I’m shopping online I pay attention to other customers feedback and will size down if that states something comes up large for example. I’ve also developed an ok eye for telling if something will fit when it’s still on the hanger

5ft10 and 10st11. Size 10.

Lightuptheroom · 26/02/2026 21:57

I'm 5'11 so doesn't help you much but my sizing can vary massively, mostly a size 14 but some shops definitely a 16 (but as I say I'm taller and weigh around 15 stone )

EvilNextDoor · 26/02/2026 22:01

@surrealpotato and your a dick - apologies for being dyslexic

I’m 5’ 8” and about 10 stone 4. Usually. 10 on top, but I have a narrow ribcage and back. Sometimes a 12 bottom half.

KittyHigham · 26/02/2026 22:05

I’m in a similar boat @EvilNextDoor- I’m 177cm and 72kg (having lost 31kg in the last year). I’m generally a size 12 but have clothes ranging from size 10 to size 16 that fit me well. It just reinforces my belief that women’s sizing is all bullshit! Ignore the label and go with what looks best.
(Zara have always been notorious for small sizing though!)

darkmoor · 26/02/2026 22:11

I’m 5ft 9, proportionally larger rib cage than hips so tend towards an apple shape. At 10st 10 I’m a 12.

Gingerwarthog · 26/02/2026 22:12

5’8 1/2
10 stone 7
Size 12 always
Size 10 in some dresses/skirts

Penelopeeee · 26/02/2026 22:12

However you spell it, you’re still being an unkind dick.

I’m 5’8” and 11 stone, and I usually start with a 12 but often go bigger. A large is usually better than a medium (especially from Zara!).

surprisebaby12 · 26/02/2026 22:12

I’m 5’11 and about 11 stone 5. I’m a size 12 on top and 14-16 on the bottom, depending on shop. I’m pretty slim but have broad hips. What size you will be depends on your body type

MyNextDoorNeighbourVotesReform · 26/02/2026 22:13

I agree with @Ineedanewsofa it depends on the shop/chain

I'm 5 ' 9
10 stone 2
I wear anything from size 10 to size 14, depending on how well made the item is/how much skimping there is in the making of the garment

Same as this.

AnneElliott · 26/02/2026 22:14

I’m 5’9 and 10.8 stone. Now a size 12 although I have a couple of size 10s that have come up big.

whatsit84 · 26/02/2026 22:15

5ft 8in and 10st 1. Size 10.

Paaseitjes · 26/02/2026 22:16

14 to 16, occasionally 12. Really depends on cut. Wide hips and thighs, narrow waist, broad back and shoulders, flat chest, toned and sporty. I'd be 10-12 in M&S, larger in more fashionable places.

ETA: I prefer things cut a bit looser though. I don't think close fitting works in much high st stuff because the fabrics and cuts are too cheap so it normally looks like sausage skin. I could probably squeeze into 12s.

RedRiverShore6 · 26/02/2026 22:17

5'10", 11 stones, large boned, generally a 14

Cut it out, it’s totally unnecessary.
