I need some help please

If your 5ft 8/9 and weigh 10st to 11st (I’m 10st 10) what clothing size do you wear?

I’ve lost a significant amount of weight and went clothes shopping properly in actual shops to work out what size I am, in one shop I tried on so many different sizes and nothing fitted right, one shop a I couldn’t get into a size 16 yet a size 14 top was massive, surely I should be a comfortable 12 or 14? Zara was incredibly inconsistent and make me feel like I was still too big to wear their clothes (need some for work)

I know a lot depends on body shape which I am still trying to work out but I’m at a loss and it’s made me incredibly nervous about shopping again

On average I’m a 10 on top ( very small boobs) , 12 on bottom - 5 ft 8 and 10 stone 7

SheSpeaks · 26/02/2026 22:22

I’m 5’8 and probably about 10.5 stone. Usually a 10 but have plenty of 8s. Was out running last night getting annoyed with my (new) size 10 running leggings which apparently wanted to fall down to my knees.
Find any shops with small/medium sizing annoying, always choose small but they often run short. Bra is a 30 band.

Have a dd of 5’9 build who is always a size 8/small size around the torso but sleeves and legs usually too short. Bra is a 28 band.

Fearlesssloth · 26/02/2026 22:23

I’m 5’8” and 11st 3lbs. In general size 12, although some shops more like a 10 on top, 12 on bottom. In places like H&M or River Island I’m a 14 on the bottom though. M&S & Next definitely a 12

Sarah24x · 26/02/2026 22:24

Depends where you store the weight.

Mine goes on my belly, I have slim arms and legs, flat butt but a broad back.

5’7 and around 9 stone 2. I’m an 8 bottom and 10 top.

Bra wise I’m a 36 band. Even when I was 7 1/2 stone, I was never smaller than a 32.

EvilNextDoor · 26/02/2026 22:25

I haven’t even started looking for new bras yet that’s also on my list

I'd advise getting measured by a professional.

I'm the same height as you and (at one point) got myself down to 10 st 12lbs and could be anything from a 12 to a 16, depending on the store. I have a long torso, but my legs are only 31 inches - this often causes difficulty for me.

I went into the lingerie department in Jenners in Edinburgh to be measured for a bra. I went in wearing a 40C and came out wearing a 34E!

Lolalovesroses · 26/02/2026 22:33

5ft 8, 9 stone 12, size 10. I bought a pair of Zara jeans from the charity shop though and they were a very snug fit at size 10.

Wigeon · 26/02/2026 22:33

Usually size 10 on top or for dresses (sometimes 12 or medium) and size 12 bottoms.

EvilNextDoor · 26/02/2026 22:01

So I should be a 12 to 14

There is no "should". Try stuff on, if it fits buy it. I'm 5' 9" and 11.5 stone. I'm a 12 or 14 most of the time, but sometimes need a 16 depending on where I shop.

MynameisJune · 26/02/2026 22:40

5’9 and 10st 3ish, mostly a 10 but depends on the shop, I have lots of 8’s and XS clothing now. I have long legs and arms though, fairly short torso but definitely a wide rib cage bra is still a 34 back.

I don’t go by sizing anymore, I just try it on if it fits and I like it then great. If not then it goes back with the knowledge that it’s not my body that’s the problem it’s the clothes!

somuchbedding · 26/02/2026 22:42

10-12

Zara can be a Large

halftermhalfawake · 26/02/2026 22:43

5ft 9, similar weight, I'm broad/athletic of shoulder and hip, but slim if that makes any sense, I'm a 12 in next and M&S. I have clothes ranging from a ten to a 14. My height's mostly in my legs so I'll go where the longer trousers are good for my shape (not supermarkets in my case)

I would visit Zara only if I felt the need to crash my self-esteem. Their clothes are just not built for me.

somuchbedding · 26/02/2026 22:43

As pp says go by the fit & ignore the label. Sometimes things look better on me if I go up a size, other times a tighter cut is more flattering. Depends on your shape & proportions.

beAsensible1 · 26/02/2026 22:44

5’8 11.5 stone

mostly 10, 12 for jumpers as I’ve got long limbs

hashtaghooray · 26/02/2026 22:45

when I was that weight I was usually a 14 anyway due to height. Sometimes a 12 never a 10.
am now a 16

halftermhalfawake · 26/02/2026 22:45

I feel bigger overall since dc2 somehow, idk how, same weight, but that's a derail

beAsensible1 · 26/02/2026 22:45

I’ve figured women clothes sizes are useless
and just buy both and try on.

EvilNextDoor · 26/02/2026 22:48

I think part of the problem is as a pp pointed out I think I should be a 12 or 14 and there is no real reason for me thinking this.

I just felt so disheartened trying on clothes and not finding anything I felt comfortable enough in to buy as it wasn’t the size I wanted it to be I’m not sure that makes sense

I’m a size 10 bottom and size 12, weigh around 10 stone 5.

Denim4ever · 26/02/2026 22:55

I think it would be 10-12, although I'm much taller.

Zara sizes are wrong on most over 5ft 8. Also a bit off generally. I bought a faux leather jacket there in the sale. They had lrg and ex lrg left. The only difference was sleeve length. The body was the same size. Normally, I'd buy med/12 to get sleeve length and put up with it being a bit loose. The Zara jacket is one of the most fitted things I own 🤣

Oneday24 · 26/02/2026 22:58

5ft9 10.5 stone and I’m an 8 on top and 10 on bottom

Whizzgosh · 26/02/2026 22:59

I’m only 5ft 3 and I weigh 11st 5 but I’m comfortably a 12, maybe a 10 on top. I’m a definite pear shape and carry all my weight around my hips, bum and thighs.

I’m really commenting to show that there’s a difference in how weight and size compare, I’d have expected women who are 6 inches taller than me to be a smaller size but it doesn’t seem to be consistently the case.

Back21970 · 26/02/2026 23:29

Sizes in shops vary massively - a large can be too small for me in Zara but I’m a size 10 with dresses in M&S.

I’m 5ft 9 and currently 10 stone 10. Generally I’m a 10/12.

SoftLass · 26/02/2026 23:44

I'm 5'9 and a touch under 11 stone. Size 12 in tops (big boobs) and either 12 or 14 in trousers depending on the brand.
