I think she was absolutely right to choose the designer she chose but that outfit is not great. The coat is styled with thigh-high leather boots on Tolu Coker's Instagram, which gives it some edge.

That is absolutely not what I'd expect Kate to wear (though imagine if she did!), but if you take away that bit of edginess and pair it with matching hat and court shoes, then it's just a bit dull.

That designer has some ‘out there’ and avant garde designs, so not much for Catherine to choose from, But this is about the only other ‘normal’ outfit and it would have looked fabulous on Catherine (different hat though).

I'm sure the designer could've rustled up something bespoke, perhaps that trouser suit in a different colour?

That's good! Only because a variety of opinions is always welcome! It seemed to be the only outfit of hers no-one likes.

Well as I’ve said before I’m no expert on fashion but …. I like the colour, it’s a change from the usual, the fit is perfect on her , the hat looks nice and I’m a fan of a longer hemline and I think it’s nice to let the Nigerian visitors really stand out and shine without drawing attention away or clashing with something more colourful.

Those are really good points, actually, @therealslimjeffy I wonder if the muted colour was chosen to allow the Nigerians to shine? Perhaps avoiding a clash.

Well I think “allowing the visitors to shine” isn’t done at other times so Im not sure why it would be now. I dont think it’s that deep. I think she wanted to showcase the designer which is fair enough but just chose entirely the wrong thing. I am a big Kate fan and like 80% of what she wears but she’s bound to disappoint me sometimes!

The corset back was interesting but I'd like to have seen it on something more colourful.

I hate to bring it back to hair but I think an updo to show off the corset back of the coat would’ve been better. It’s the best part of the outfit and it’s nearly hidden.

Dislike the colour, the corset and the length (6" too long)....apart from that, I quite liked it (joke 😄)

The more photos I see the more I like it. On its own it is a dull colour big I think it makes a good background for all the colourful pomp and circumstance.

I'm with @gingercat02. I like grey, but that dress is dreadful.

I'm glad Kate didn't try and complete with the Nigerian eye for prints and colour - that would have been cringeworthy. Also, she's so hopeless at prints.that although I'm firmly in favour of more patterns and prints, she gets an exemption.

I don't like that much sugar pink on anyone, so Camilla's outfit is a disappointment too. The colour doesn't seem to have given her her usual scope for brooches either, which is a shame. Her usual approach to jewellery has a certain resonance with the Nigerian aesthetic that I'd have enjoyed.

As my friend said, Kate looks like an air hostess today. Just dreadful.

Incidentally, as a distraction from Kate's air hostess look, have we admired Mary's picotee wrap skirt? It's been a while since I've liked anything she's worn, but this is very chic.

Yes, I like it, especially with that white blouse.

Quite a few of Mary’s outfits haven’t been shown here yet. Her dresses including two Zimmerman’s. The green dress might be new but the others are definitely rewears.

And her trousers including….. an elasticated waist! Am all for comfort and she probably knew she was going to kick the football so dressed accordingly.

Victoria is in Texas. I think she opened the new consulate in Houston. Lots of pics here including her in a lovely sparkly dress and one with her hair not in a bun. Erm it’s in a ponytail so not exactly earth shattering style. But I love the pictures of her at a bbq - I think it must be at the head of the consulate’s residence.
