Is this OK for DS's wedding?

It's a city registry office wedding for close family and friends in summer followed by a party for the wide extended family and friends in the evening. Emphasis is on casual and relaxed. I'm 57, five foot 1, size 12 on top, 14 on the bottom, blond hair and hazel eyes. I really like this, with possibly navy heels (not too high) and maybe a fuchsia bag - not hat/fascinator, might do a nice hair clip and low messy bun. What do you think? Also open to suggestions 😊 (but must take account of my lack of inches and nothing above the knee or light blue colour) https://www.hobbs.com/product/petite-tess-shirt-dress/0126-5997-1185L04-MIDNIGHT-NAVY.html

Lovely ☺️

Twinkletopz · 09/02/2026 19:09

Would you wear the dress to the ceremony and assume lunch and then change of outfit for the evening party?

You can hire designer bags of you don’t want to pay out. Also don’t do fascinator - grim - so many other lovely hair accessories. I like shades and textures of one colour - that’s why the pic with all accessories in nude / gold looked good. Peacock colours - kingfisher blue and green look good with navy - IMHO nicer and more classy to have range of colours from same root rather than 2 that block contrast. Def nude / pale gold / silver shoes to extend the leg - but think jewellery and hair accessories more important than a bag - because you will be wearing them throughout whilst the bag might be put down.

Dress is beautiful, I def wouldn’t go with fuchsia pink bag & navy heels , I’d go with black bag & heels like the model .

BlimeyOReillyO · 09/02/2026 19:19

Oh lovely!! 😻

Either navy or nude, thanks to the suggestions on here. Can't be too high, and nothing open toed - I need to be able to walk over cobblestones

I’ve been relying on L K Bennett wedges for years for events like this, for these very reasons. Either Maddox or Eevi. And I wouldn’t shy away from buying them somewhere like eBay either, as long as they were in very good condition, because the benefit of having them been worn in a little before a long day’s wearing, can’t be underestimated.

I mean that as in ‘what shoes are you thinking?’ rather than ‘what the hell are you thinking?’ 😆

I thought you were being a bit abrupt 🤣

Yes navy or nude would be great

@Twinkletopz good point about the hair accessories and jewellery being more important than the bag - which will definitely be put down at some point and not picked up again for some time

I have this dress, it is absolutely gorgeous, I think it would be perfect!

Notthegodofsmallthings · 09/02/2026 21:35

I don't think you could have chosen a better dress, OP, pretty much perfect. I hope you have a wonderful day.

BagthorpeSaga · 09/02/2026 22:08

Lovely dress 💙

Rainallnight · 09/02/2026 22:09

It’s a lovely dress! I agree with PPs that orange or coral would be lovely with it.

One tiny thing - I’m your height and I don’t wear things with bows for fear of looking too little girlie. I’d get a seamstress to turn the sash into a waistband with hook and eye fastening. Or if that’s too much hassle, tie it like a neck tie so you have a knot and two longish tails. That is my particular thing though!

SirChenjins · 09/02/2026 22:20

Now this I like! Shame it's nearly £2K

Love it. Think fuschia bag a great idea.

Shellyshep · 10/02/2026 09:19

I love the dress. It’s perfect. If you don’t want to do fuchsia shoes for the reason you’ve given how about fuchsia earrings to match the bag?

Gorgeous!

PurpleDisco · 10/02/2026 20:33

@SirChenjins I love it! Navy is so classy and that dress would be perfect with a fuschia bag, shoes and a small wrap / pashmina if the weather is on the cool side. You’ll certainly get plenty of wear out of this dress.

CleansUpButWouldPreferNotTo · 10/02/2026 20:59

Someone mentioned emerald green- lime green with navy is sensational and also a bit playful and less formal.

Whatever you choose, you’re going to look gorgeous and feel comfortable too in that dress.
