Is this OK for DS's wedding?

It's a city registry office wedding for close family and friends in summer followed by a party for the wide extended family and friends in the evening. Emphasis is on casual and relaxed. I'm 57, five foot 1, size 12 on top, 14 on the bottom, blond hair and hazel eyes. I really like this, with possibly navy heels (not too high) and maybe a fuchsia bag - not hat/fascinator, might do a nice hair clip and low messy bun. What do you think? Also open to suggestions 😊 (but must take account of my lack of inches and nothing above the knee or light blue colour) https://www.hobbs.com/product/petite-tess-shirt-dress/0126-5997-1185L04-MIDNIGHT-NAVY.html

Ahh thanks everyone! 😊 I love the dress, but my social life involves dog walking up hills with my pals, so I'm a bit clueless. I think I need to stick with the navy shoes - I've found that if I wear shoes that are a different colour to a plain coloured (roughly) knee length dress it shortens me even more, so think I'll just go for a coloured bag. Does fuchsia sound ok?

Fuchsia, orange or silver would all work beautifully. I'd go for one of the first two in a matte finish.

Lovely dress, good choice OP

Lovely dress - classy, but not over formal.

Another shoe option as a fellow short person is nude heels. I had some lovely suede heels - also from Hobbs as it happens - which made my legs look really long.

SirChenjins · 08/02/2026 19:38

LOVE that bag @ascenda - both the pink you linked to and the orange one. Never thought of orange, but that would go really well with navy. Fuchsia and orange together maybe?

What colour of jewellery and hair accessory should I go for if I go for a fuchsia and/or orange bag, or a gold bag?

It is lovely! x

Fuchsia nails if you dont (want to) go for a fuchsia bag.

I love that metallic one but would be wary of catching the fabric of the dress.

watchingthishtread · 08/02/2026 20:37

It's perfect. Navy shoes and a fuschia bag sound good. You can't go too far wrong with accessories. There's very little that doesn't work with navy.

SirChenjins · 08/02/2026 21:33

Ordered the petite and the regular, just in case I prefer the longer length - although longer length usually means the other proportions are out. Fingers crossed it looks ok on!

It's perfect. I think a fascinator eould be too fussy...nice hairclip and low bun spunds good.

Goldwren1923 · 08/02/2026 21:45

It looks black?

SirChenjins · 08/02/2026 21:51

Midnight navy - it says in the url

Love the dress. I would go navy shoe and orange bag (agree with prev poster about the navy/fushia combo -has been done for too long)

I would then just have a small orange hair pin.

Ikeameatballs · 08/02/2026 22:19

It’s beautiful!

Bunnie007 · 08/02/2026 22:23

I think the dress is gorgeous and looks like it would be so flattering. I would also avoid fuchsia pink as is dated but I think a very pale pink would look great or a coral : )

LiteraryBambi · 08/02/2026 22:25

I think it's perfect, a gorgeous dress. Have fun!

MayaPinion · 08/02/2026 22:33

I’d go gold - Esska platform heels, gold bag, jewelry and hair accessory.

TwoeightTwoeightTwoOhhhh · 08/02/2026 22:35

Lovely dress!
what about a turquoise blue bag with the navy?

I second this! Turquoise a far less obvious choice, and still fun.

Wreckinball · 08/02/2026 22:45

Yes and pink cashmere wrap in case it’s a bit cold/windy

WhatWouldRoyKentSay · 08/02/2026 22:48

@SirChenjins it's gorgeous! You'll look fab.
