Tea dress for Italian honeymoon

Im 45 and getting married in Italy in May. I'm 5ft tall and a curvy size 12/14 (days of being a size 8 are gone in spite of my best efforts to lose weight so feel quite self conscious about that). I'd like to get a couple of nice flattering dresses for while we are away. I find A line flattering so Im thinking of tea dresses. I'm blonde and have fair skin.
I dont want to spend too much, certainly less than £100 on each.
Any suggestions?

Another quite cute-looking Whistles one that's out of stock right now, but maybe worth signing up for notifications? Three different prints/colourways.

Thanks. Yes , I don't want to look washed out. I'm not opposed to colour, in fact I'm thinking of getting a navy blue with white spots nobodys child dress - its also available in petite which im hoping would mean i don't have to get it taken up.

Did you see that the Boden Rosie tea dress, which I & another PP had linked above, also comes in navy polka-dot?

I'm not much of a dot/stripe person myself, but they've done a bit of a take on Rixo dresses here with the contrast smaller dot, which adds something a bit out-of-the-ordinary to it. And it comes in petite too.

The pink print is still my favourite though ...!

I've found this and have randomly ordered it as its also a bargain. I didn't put this in my OP as I didn't want to put anything too outing bit its just the two of us going to Italy. I am going full on bridalfor the ceremony etc but we are going for a fancy dinner in the evening and I was thinking it would be nice to have a dress to change into. I will wear my wedding dress to a party when we get home so am worried about spillages etc. 😂 I also think Id feel a wally in a restaurant in my wedding dress!

No idea what it will fit like and it will need to be taken up but I thought it might work for our evening meal??

That’s lovely OP.

I'm definitely going to have another look at Nobodys Child dresses too. Neither John Lewis or M&S seem to have their petite range so I may have to order directly from them.

I think that you need to select Petite Dresses, then when you find a dress you like you need to scroll down to length & you can choose Petite or Regular? It could be a bit clearer, I think - but they are there on M&S!

Surprised you've not been taken to task for the "discerning" comment yet! But I do agree completely ... I hope the Liberty dress suits the OP! Lots of original vintage Liberty ones online on eBay etc too - but more of a risk.

I know 😂 somehow slipped that under the radar. I know my fabrics, I can’t help it

EleanorMc67 · 10/02/2026 20:50

I've never bought anything by Nobody's Child, it's not quite my style generally. But I'd also like other posters thought of it as a good source of summery tea-dress styles.

These would be my first choices for you, @TeaChocKitKat , as a petite fair-skinned blonde. All of these come in a petite option.

I really like the versatility of this one - you could easily wear it with tan boots in autumn, & with flat or high sandals on your honeymoon.

Think this might be the navy polka-dot one you were thinking of, which is lovely? I also like it in yellow. Depends on whether it's a colour you suit or not - pale yellow can look great on blondes, but if it's the wrong shade it can be dreadful!

This version of the same dress is reduced. It's also a very pretty & quite a univerally flattering colourway - cream with coral & blue flowers.

Also reduced, & both colourways are nice. I don't think it's exclusively a bridesmaid's dress!!

I like the white rosebud one as well as the pink, but think it's only the pink that comes in petite.

That is the one I'm thinking of. I had my colours done years ago and I'm pretty sure I was a Spring but I can't carry off yellow or green.

These are pretty, thanks. I actually think I prefer the pink as I suspect the white would wash me out x

The Mumsnet gorgons must have been sleeping ... 😁!!!

My partner bought me this book on Liberty a few years ago. It's utterly gorgeous.

H&M have a couple of cotton summer dresses that might suit. Though no petite versions.

This one is a lovely classic dress but sadly out of stock in your size. Set up a notification or look on Vinted/eBay if you like it?

I don't know this brand, but this cotton dress is quite a cute retro style. No petite version but the waistline is high so might be fine?

Cotton, reduced to under £30 & a really lovely colour & style? Not a petite style - but another one that's cut high in the waist.

If you want a dress for evenings, I'd suggest looking at Ghost. A bit over budget but very nice styles.

I'd spotted the ones above on the M&S website, but there are actually quite a few dresses really well-reduced on the Ghost website (starting around £35). Mostly in Ecovero viscose, which is light & drapey & good in warm weather.
