Tea dress for Italian honeymoon

TeaChocKitKat · 07/02/2026 09:25

Im 45 and getting married in Italy in May. I'm 5ft tall and a curvy size 12/14 (days of being a size 8 are gone in spite of my best efforts to lose weight so feel quite self conscious about that). I'd like to get a couple of nice flattering dresses for while we are away. I find A line flattering so Im thinking of tea dresses. I'm blonde and have fair skin.
I dont want to spend too much, certainly less than £100 on each.
Any suggestions?

What about me really nice one from Rixo, rather than two cheaper ones…

I love Rixo too, that's where I would look, or on Ebay etc for preloved...

Get yourself to SeaSalt! They specialise in that kind of dress for “ladies of a certain age”.

Most SeaSalt stuff is poorly cut and sack like.

I don't think that's true.

FcukBreastCancer · 09/02/2026 14:38

Sea salt have their place, but not a wedding!

NamingNoNames · 09/02/2026 14:47

It's for wearing on honeymoon not the wedding.

Some of them would be fine.

As a few have already mentioned Nobody's Child does nice tea dresses, I've bought a few in the past. However just looked at their website and shocked at the prices! I'm sure their dresses used to be under £50

Isn't Seasalt all cotton jersey?

NamingNoNames · 09/02/2026 15:26

@Mulledjuice , no. They have linen, cotton, wool etc. Not everything is printed either.

Why not just give up on life

NamingNoNames · 09/02/2026 19:29

@Wtfdoidoplease , they have many different styles and while it wouldn't be my first choice of shop to look in, I wouldn't rule it out. The shop in my local high street has some nice clothes.

TeaChocKitKat · 09/02/2026 20:29

I'm not particularly stylish hence wanting some advice here but even I think that the seasalt dresses look awful and that I'd look like a sack of potatoes in them 😂

I do have some fat face in my wardrobe. I think I also have a couple of basics from white stuff but I'm really on the hunt for something a bit nicer for this x

Ive taken the punt and ordered the liberty dress as it does look like a bargain. Im also tempted to order a couple of dresses from Nobodys Child to see what they are like on.

They sell Nobody's Child in M&S and John Lewis @TeaChocKitKat . I just mention it because I find delivery and returns easier at M&S and JL so it's easy to order a few to try on and return.

NamingNoNames · 09/02/2026 20:36

It is your honeymoon. I'm fairly open-minded, so would probably try all the shops on my high street. The nicest shops never seem to have anything I like. Smile
If I ventured to London, I probably would go to quite different shops.

I’m so glad you ordered the Liberty! Let us know what you think!

TeaChocKitKat · 09/02/2026 21:46

I've found this and have randomly ordered it as its also a bargain. I didn't put this in my OP as I didn't want to put anything too outing bit its just the two of us going to Italy. I am going full on bridalfor the ceremony etc but we are going for a fancy dinner in the evening and I was thinking it would be nice to have a dress to change into. I will wear my wedding dress to a party when we get home so am worried about spillages etc. 😂 I also think Id feel a wally in a restaurant in my wedding dress!

No idea what it will fit like and it will need to be taken up but I thought it might work for our evening meal??

The best tea dress I ever bought was from Nobody's Child. It looked like vintage 1930s crepe de chine but cost £35. I'd definitely have a look.

Tonissister · 09/02/2026 21:54

OP - that dress is beautiful. I hope it fits.

MTOandMe · 09/02/2026 22:13

45 - ‘ladies of a certain age’!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I’m 42 and wouldn’t be seen dead in Seasalt!

TeaChocKitKat · 09/02/2026 22:13

I'm definitely going to have another look at Nobodys Child dresses too. Neither John Lewis or M&S seem to have their petite range so I may have to order directly from them.

The Liberty dress will be a nice length on you. I have 2 versions of it and they are my go to for hot weather. The material is gorgeous.

ChaliceinWonderland · 09/02/2026 23:04

Wait till you get to Italy. It's hot in May. The shops there are far better, Italians don't wear tea dresses so you'll look really out of place, I got married in Italy in Sept, hot! Grestshops like max mara etc. British people always wear such frumpy dresses on holiday, avoid Seasalter and boden!
