Tea dress for Italian honeymoon

Im 45 and getting married in Italy in May. I'm 5ft tall and a curvy size 12/14 (days of being a size 8 are gone in spite of my best efforts to lose weight so feel quite self conscious about that). I'd like to get a couple of nice flattering dresses for while we are away. I find A line flattering so Im thinking of tea dresses. I'm blonde and have fair skin.
I dont want to spend too much, certainly less than £100 on each.
Any suggestions?

Lady Vintage have tea dresses. I’m liking the pink leopard https://ladyvlondon.com/collections/below-the-knee

A lot of dresses online are dark in colour at the moment, as the spring/summer collections are just starting.

Would this suit you, OP?

Have you tried Scamp and Dude? Amazingly flattering dresses

Congratulations, by the way! It sounds amazing ❤️

Gabrielle Parker has beautiful dresses, in gorgeous prints and in budget…might be worth a look.

Oh some lovely suggestions here - thank you! I particularly like the look of some of the dresses from nobody's child. Am tempted to order a couple, how do the sizes come up?

Nobody's Child came to mind for me too.

The quality isn't that great though

Nothing I’ve ever seen in either store could be mistaken for a Liberty print by anyone discerning, and the way it’s cut is far superior. I just went on Seasalt to have a look and their prints are hideous.

I have 2 versions of that Liberty dress in different patterns. It's about mid calf on me. The material is tana lawn. It's lovely to wear.

beAsensible1 · 08/02/2026 06:57

Aritzia do some gorgeous stuff with a similar silhouette in a variety of materials

Ghost do nice tea dresses. Look at Seamstress of Bloomsbury of you're looking for something retro.
Nobody's Child has some nice dresses too although agree with others about quality.
Vinted is good for getting something from a higher end brand at a bargain price.

Get yourself to SeaSalt! They specialise in that kind of dress for “ladies of a certain age”.

I thought you had to be over 80 to be a lady of a certain age....😂

Women's Tea Dresses | Floral Prints & Vintage Dresses | Joe Browns https://share.google/W1fZAbiq1YjL2AUXw

Joe brown has several on sale only thing is you may need to get some taken up. If thata not a issue I would look.

some Are cute but many screams like English trying to do summer, or as Italian call them tablecloth re-used for a dress. No pls

Jigsaw used to be my go to for this kind of dress. Not much at the moment but there is a sale on. This looks nice www.jigsaw-online.com/collections/dresses/products/spray-floral-satin-bias-dress-purple

Totally not suitable for Italian May weather or style. In the uk would do.

DivorcedButHappyNow · 08/02/2026 08:05

Very good picks. Especially the Liberty bargain.

@Wtfdoidoplease How is that Liberty dress any less frumpy than anything in Seasalt or Fatface? It looks like it could easily be sold by them!

Reality is nearly all print dresses look frumpy. For Italy, pls stay away from dresses that have small flowers, small prints and are unstructured, they scream old English countryside lady, which is great if this is your style. If you want something modern, stylish and don’t want to spend much, keep it simple, mono colour and with a bit of structure.

Nobody’s child is crap if your curves include having big boobs - it’s a real shame!

I thought the same thing. Pretty pattern but looks b terrible on the model. No wonder it’s so cheap.

EsotericMnemonic · 08/02/2026 08:55

I think the difficulty you’ll have with lots of these brands is the length. I’m 5ft 2 so a couple of inches taller, and unfortunately anything by Rixo, Jigsaw, Liberty etc looks ridiculous on me. Boden and Hobbs have some petite dresses but I’ve not seen much in recently that looks good, Vinted may be helpful?

I think the same - that Liberty one is dreadful but the other dresses posted by that poster are nice.

I'm similar age to OP and I would never buy anything from Sea salt, Fatface or white stuff. I have no idea why they're so popular on here.

My favourite brand at the moment is Me & Em, they will probably have something that fits your purpose OP.

Also LK Bennett are going into administration so have got a sale on everything (still looked overpriced to me but you might find something there).
