Older bride - what to wear with this sequin jumpsuit?

Second time bride here, mid 50’s. I’m getting married again in a couple of months and we are having a fun, informal family and friends wedding. I’m wearing the jumpsuit below, but have no idea how to dress it up (does it need it?) to make it more bridal. In particular what to do with my hair? A hat? A hair band? A flower? I have very short hair and it’s fine and menopausal so options are pretty limited! It’s from Phase Eight.

also any ideas for jewellery? Shoes?

the colour scheme for flowers is orange and pink (clashing!) My future husband is wearing a fabulous dark orange velvet suit, adult bridesmaids in a deep dark pink.

thanks all!

You’ll look fantastic. I’d go for pink shoes and a pink and orange floral band/headpiece. I wouldn’t complicate the jumpsuit by adding a scarf or changing the belt- I think that might look fussy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/01/2026 10:23

Will you be carrying a bouquet of the clashing flowers? If so, then plain silver for shoes would be fine. Otherwise I do like the idea of bright shoes and don’t think it would be ‘tacky’ - I’d only buy shoes that I’d want to wear again though, personally (so I’d probably end up with silver Converse or flat silver Mary Jane’s!).

This is fabulous!! If anything else needed accessorise with bright pink/orange ..shoes, flower in hair . Have a wonderful day!!

LadyDanburysHat · 30/01/2026 10:27

I think it is perfect for a second wedding, and I agree with pink or orange shoes to go with the theme

Azuresky68 · 30/01/2026 10:30

Pink orange accessories will reflect your personality if you like to stand out and will match in with flowers and husband's suit but suggetion for white flowers and silver shoes also lovely 😍

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 30/01/2026 10:32

It's gorgeous! I'd wear silver Esska Charlie's with it.

I was a bride in my 50's recently and wore a big flower to one side of my hair. It was kind of a nod to being bridal. I've since seen some amazing bridal headbands in Wolf and Badger that I wish I'd seen. They are slightly quirky and would look great with your jumpsuit.

I wouldn’t wear a hat with sequins.

However, a lush, lux, skinny scarf in burnt orange velvet?

Great idea!

Lilactimes · 30/01/2026 10:34

I have a friend who had a pink and orange theme and it was great. She held a pink and orange gerbera bouquet.
personally I wouldn't add a belt or scarf and mess up the line of the fabulous jump suit... maybe a lovely clip in your hair aka Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors with short hair!

The burnt orange velvet chunky heel shoes are fantastic that are on this thread . I think silver shoes would only work if they're the same colour. The suit looks like it has a bit of warmth in it so a cooler silver may not work?

Beautiful stud earrings and a delicate chain or no necklace and slightly larger earrings would also look good!

excited for you @Teabelly71 have a wonderful day - sounds fantastic!!

That sounds fab !

I also thought of that! I went to a lot of festivals in my late 50's and had one of those. Another headband was white flowers with fairy lights with a small silver disco ball! Not saying that would be understated but it would look great with sequins..maybe without disco ball and lights....anyway it's your day and you should wear what feels right for you...the comments here are just ideas to help 😊

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/01/2026 10:50

Deffo no belt or scarf imo.

Teabelly71 · 30/01/2026 11:40

I have to say I laughed at the “it’s not very bridal” comment! I’ve already had a white wedding, this is also a very “me” outfit, and I can’t wait to wear it.

I love all the shoes linked, I can see a shoe splurge coming lol. Vinted is also my friend 🙂🙂

we are having a ceilidh as well as a “home made disco” - all the guests have given us their top three songs to get them on the dance floor so we have the best playlist. Our first dance will be one that everyone will also dance to in the ceilidh, laughing at getting all the moves wrong and just having a good time. To top it all it’s also my birthday that day - what fun we’ll have !

It sounds an absolute blast.

No, no, no, no, no to a bright orange fascinator- sorry, but that thing is positively monstrous imo.

whatwouldlilacerullodo · 30/01/2026 11:50

Pink high heels and as PP suggested, a Frida kahlo inspired hair thing with pink and orange flowers. I love the jumpsuit and the colour scheme, and jealous of you for marrying a guy on an orange velvet suit! A man who dresses like that must be a blast :)

Thanks everybody! Lots to think about - lots of new ideas - I’ll have a good browse.

I'm the example of things can and do get better after the ending of a long marriage (classic Script, classic Mumsnet situation that we read about). 12 years on for me after my life exploded and I’m so much happier and can’t believe I’m getting married again and I’m really excited to do so! My moron idiot ex actually did me a big favour in hindsight 🙂

Fantastic...so happy for you 💝🧡💝🧡

bridgetreilly · 30/01/2026 12:23

Hair clip?

How about changing the belt to a matching orange or pink velvet one?

That’s a brilliant idea

Aisla · 30/01/2026 12:29

Maybe get your hair done at salon some amazing striking color to showcase your short hair but enough time to either like it or fix it before your day.
Statement earrings or bracelet.
The jumpsuit is all texture and light. Adding a matte or soft fabric will make it look more expensive and finished, such as a white tuxedo blazer for a beautiful suit silhouette to make you feel dressy, and maybe a lot warmer when you have to crawl out if the jumpsuit every time you need to use the loo.
Since the leg is wide, you need a heel to elongate your silhouette, try metallic or jewel encrusted shoes, or a loud pop of color....say blue?
Are you brave & fairly confident? Go for a nice red or deep berry lip so you're not washed out by all the sequins and pale tones.
You want clean lines, expensive fabrics (velvet, fur, crepe) to mix with the sequins, and one signature bridal accessory (like a birdcage veil or blazer). Don't wear anything you are not comfortable otherwise you'll be miserable and not feel yourself.
Congrats, hope you have an amazing day.

It's not very bridal. Confused

Disagree. I think it’s very bridal. Love it.

theDudesmummy · 30/01/2026 15:13

I absolutely love the jumpsuit and wish I had worn something like that to my second wedding! (I played it a bit safe with a pretty candy-striped chiffon dress, and even though the wedding was just signing a bit of paper on a priest's dining table and then having a barbeque at my mother's house, I really wish, years later now, that I had gone a bit fabulous!).

Anyway, FWIW, if it was me wearing that jumpsuit I would not accessorise with anything except the bouquet, and I would wear closely matching silver shoes, high or low depending on your own style. The suit very much does the talking and I wouldn't want to detract from it. Less is more in this case, I would think. Let the bouquet plus the groom and the bridesmaids be the "pop" of colour to set off your chic silveriness.

tartyflette · 30/01/2026 15:18

Some lovely ideas here, OP, I didn't think I would but i loved the pink-orange fascinator , it was terrific in terms of colour and style for your gorgeous jumpsuit. But obviously you would have to try it (or similar ones) to see if they suit you.
Best of luck, you're gping to look amazing .
