Size 14 wide leg jeans that don’t make me look like a clown? 🤡

I’m early 40s, relatively new mum, and really want to get into the wider leg jeans trend. I’m a size 14 and carry a lot of weight on my bum and thighs. So my current Levi ‘straight leg’ jeans actually look more skintight than they do on the model.

I tried some wide leg jeans on yesterday and honestly looked like I’d escaped from the circus. I looked, frankly, ridiculous.

Where can I go to get age- and shape-appropriate jeans?

One final thing, a high rise is a must. Cannot be mid or low rise.

Also the trainers are all wrong, wear wide leg with converse or ankle boots or creeper platform type shoes. Those trainers are for slim black trousers or black legginga.

I've ordered a load from M&S and River Island, OP. I'm a bit taller than you but also struggle with trousers these days a lot. I have mum pouch after my C-section, losing weight atm but I'm still not size 10 like I used to be. I'm a 12-14 now and absolutely can't pull off most of currently available trousers IMO. I picked some that look more moderate, I shall report back! 🤞

The trend is still around but slim leg are more recently back so if you don’t feel they suit you there is no reason to force yourself.

I don't think height has anything to do with it. It's about body shape. I am 5ft 3 and look better in wide legged jeans. I have a top heavy shape so they balance me out. Skinny jeans look ridiculous on me.

I get so many compliments when I wear my wide leg jeans from Sainsbury’s. I’m 5’ 3” and a size 10. Very comfortable and only cost £22!

Levi 318 shaping wide leg jeans are a really good shape. I needed to size down one size in them but as you say you carry weight on bum and thighs your normal size might be a good fit in them. Only wide leg jeans I found to suit me.

I’ve just bought a pair of saint genie wide leg from tik tok shop and they are awesome because they have a lot of stretch so fit nicely over the tum bum b it hand from the thigh. They were super cheap too will try and link

I agree that ironically wide leg jeans looks better on skinnier legs and thicker legs look nicer in more fitted or barrel style.

I love Uniqlo for jeans, they're good quality but pretty cheap so I can experiment with new shapes.

Their JW Anderson straight leg are actually quite wide without being clownishly so and might be a safer introduction for you. Same for the barrel legs - wide but cut in a way that they're not so flappy.

I second this recommendation, I think I have them in every colour. Very reasonable and most flattering

I love wide leg jeans, and find them more flattering than skinny or straight. I hung onto mine from the 90s for a long time after everyone else went skinny jean!

I think they suit you in that pic OP, but you need to wear them with a shorter, more fitted top that sits on the waistband. Otherwise you're just drawing attention to the widest part of your body.

A shorter, fitted top draws attention to your waist, and I think the contrast with the wide jeans makes the waist look smaller.

I have these and although they are labelled as straight leg, they look wide leg on me but not ridiculously so.

Levi Ribcage straight are the only ones that don’t make me look massive. They also do cinch waist jeans which might work well

I tried on every wide leg jeans under the sun before I found the perfect pair: Reiss Mid-Rise Flared Jeans in Mid Blue - REISS. Just the right amount of stretch to get past my chunky thighs and bum, and not too wide.

Halara is your friend here. I cannot explain fully how much i love their jeans and I've converted so many people. They are so comfortable also, feel like joggers but don't look it. I've got considerable thighs and bum and they enhance them. Honestly they work miracles.

You can buy direct from them but they take weeks to come. Get them on tiktok shop. They will come faster.

My dd is size 8 and 5ft 8 and I always think she looks like she has put on weight when she wears them. I keep my thoughts to myself though.

you are so right. I'm quite tall but no longer slim-- but I do have longish and not dumpy legs. If I put wide leg jeans on I just look shapeless all the way up. Sod it, I'm sticking with my old, slimmer ones even if they are now mum jeans!

I am older than you but the same height. I got Salsa denim ones and loved them so much l have now got black ones. I wear them with ankle boots but l have got lots of compliments. Only wear tops that come just below belt or even shorter if you like. My dd is very impressed with them and that is a sure fire success for me as she is my style critic.

I don’t like them i don’t drive so do a lot of walking. Can see them flapping about it the wind and getting soaked.
