I'm in the market for a new dressing gown. Any recommendations? I dont have a specific budget in mind, just want something really lovely to replace my current one (John Lewis) which has seen better days. Thanks!

Tbh my slightly rushed, inexpensive buy of a shell pink super soft fleece one in Next has massively improved my life.

DistractMe · 18/01/2026 10:18

And I've no idea why the link looks like that. Sorry

Joules have lovely thick and soft dressing gowns - this one is out of stock but gives you an idea https://www.freemans.com/products/joules-matilda-dressing-gown/_/A-38H013_S/M

Ooh I love that

Tighteningmybelt · 18/01/2026 10:20

I bought one off TikTok for DD it’s the OHS one and it’s so lovely and soft I bought myself one. It’s burgandy with a bright pink pattern 😁

Very do some lovely, supersoft dressing gowns in their own brand and they’re quite long (I’m average height and they come down to mid calf for me)

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 18/01/2026 10:21

Long zip up soft dressing gown from Matalan. Zip up is a total game changer!

bumphousebump · 18/01/2026 10:21

British boxer here too, it’s warm but never too hot, very cold house at night but it’s fine when it’s warmer too. So use it in the summer as well. Washes well. I also have a big fleecy cheap M&S one for sheer cosiness but only in the winter.

hopefulsocks · 18/01/2026 10:21

The White Company, great quality and feel really luxurious

Doublebubblegum · 18/01/2026 10:21

I have an Oodie dressing gown and it has 100% changed my life for the better

LookingThroughGlass · 18/01/2026 10:21

I've got a lovely Jasper Conran one, very thick, very long, very warm, very fluffy and very purple😋

WendyIsAGoodWitch · 18/01/2026 10:22

I’ve got two I really like. One is from Biju home, a sort of luxury towelling one, I wear it in the warmer months.

The other one is literally like a hug in the winter, a Seasalt fleece one. Really recommend it, extremely cosy.

Nicecatneighbour · 18/01/2026 10:25

I think its definitely worth spending a bit extra for a good one. I do have a soft and fluffy fleece one, but give my DH a static shock everytime I hug him in it. 🤭
Next time I think will get a cotton towelling one.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/01/2026 10:25

Seasalt here. It made a refreshing chanhe from acres of pastels in M&S, etc.

British Boxers look fab and I'm hankering after a Rituals bathrobe. Towelling on the inside, velour on the outside.

StarCourt · 18/01/2026 10:26

I bought one from La Redoute a few months back which is Cotton muslin patterned outer and cotton towelling inner and a cotton velour hooded one from The White Company. I highly recommend both. Love a dressing gown.

WendyIsAGoodWitch · 18/01/2026 10:27

That’s the word @RosesAndHellebores , velour towelling fabric. I tried to look for the Biju home site but it doesn’t seem to be around.

llamashoe · 18/01/2026 10:28

Ooh so many great suggestions here!! Laughing at nicecatneighbour giving the OH a static shock 😅

I’m in the minority but I I don’t like towelling or fleece dressing gowns, prefer light flowing fabrics, if budget wasn’t an issue I’d buy a gorgeous one from Kim + Ono

ageingdisgracefully · 18/01/2026 10:36

Bought one from White Stuff as a Christmas present to myself. It's jolly and lightweight. I've got the pyjama bottoms too (matching). It's not great quality though.

The postie said I look like Margo Leadbetter out of the Good Life wafting about but hey ho - I like it.

I'm another one who gets static shocks off those fleecy things.

daisychain01 · 18/01/2026 10:41

I've got 2 from M&S bought at different times, one is a summer weight and a heavier fleece for colder nights. I've never been able to find anything comparable in terms of comfort and quality since, they've lasted me over 10 years.

It probably isn't the best time of year unless you're looking for a thin cotton dressing gown - all the nice fleecy ones in Seasalt and White Stuff are sold out in most sizes. You might find some in the sale in their actual shops though. I find the best time to look for a cosy one is in October when all the shops are stocked for Christmas as everyone wants comfy dressing gowns to wear round the house over the holidays.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/01/2026 10:42

There's definitely a gap in the market for simple, darker colours, good quality fabric - not fluffy, not frilly, not baby coloured anything and below the knee.

Ineffable23 · 18/01/2026 10:45

I have one from M and S - the Rosie dressing gown:

Very cosy.

hollystar500 · 18/01/2026 10:57

if anyone knows where I can get one that’s long id be grateful for a recommendation. I want ankle length and all the ones I’ve seen are mid shin at best

Yes! The reason I clicked on this thread. I feel a Dragon’s Den moment coming on - who’s in? 😂
