for out out in a northern city tomorrow night. Food, drinks and inevitable dancing in gay bars.

Was originally thinking little black dress + heels but have decided I want to be more comfortable.

Will I do?

Together it looks a bit fancy dress. For example switching out the top for a black t-shirt tucked in with the rest of the outfit would give it a vintage inspired feel without feeling over the top.

Agree. Individually, all the pieces are fab! Just think all together would be OTT

The outfit’s ok - although as a teen in the 70s I probably wore all the items at some stage. Shame about the ‘dancing in the gay bars’ bit though - unless you are actually gay! Otherwise it smacks of ‘let’s all go and gawp at the gays down Canal Street for lols’ mentality.

I used to enjoy going to gay bars and clubs because the people there tended to be nicer and more fun than in other establishments, locally. The music was heaps better too. It was not at all for gawping purposes! In fact, if anything, my friend and I were the ones who were gawped at - we didn't fit in. At all! But we had a lovely time and chatted to some excellent people!

Hey, if you can't be OTT at Christmas, when can you be?!

12345mummy · 19/12/2025 07:36

Absolutely love it ❤️

I agree.

No one will bat an eyelid as they’ll be worrying about their own outfit!

ILoveLucite · 19/12/2025 07:46

I love it! I love every part of it! I’m gonna have to copy it!

Sneakers would fuck that up.

It needeth gold platforms.

Why are heels so derided? Sometimes they make an outfit just right. We don't have to handmaid's tale it all the time.

It's ok to glam it up occasionally.

AND MEN WEAR HEELS TOO.

(See the late and sadly lamented Prince and Bowie for 'fucking stylish men in heels').

Edited

Yes but Prince died due to an addiction to pain killers brought about because of back pain caused by wearing high heels on stage all the time......

It wasn't the heels that killed him.

Forever1973 · 19/12/2025 07:57

I like everything but the sequinned top - it's not the sequins, but I'd want something more fitted with tight jeans. That might just be me though - I've got big boobs so a loose top over tight jeans would make it look as though I had no waist. If that style suits you, go with it.

LittleJustice · 19/12/2025 07:57

If he'd have worn comfy trainers on stage, he may still be with us......

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 19/12/2025 08:02

@VanishIntoYou
I used to work for a large high street retailer and we used to sell thousands of those sequin butterfly tops every Xmas, much to our amusement. This was 25 years ago.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 19/12/2025 08:21

I'd say have fun.

The top isn't to my taste but someone has mentioned the clichéd vintage band tshirt and someone else has suggested trainers. So I'd say wear the top and heels and enjoy yourself. It's good to be glamorous once in a while and it's a shame people don't make the effort anymore.

DrMickhead · 19/12/2025 08:25

@VanishIntoYou I used to wear stuff like this! Im 40 soon and in my younger days I loved this vibe. Most of my friends are part of the 🏳️‍🌈 community and our most fun nights were canal street or the Lisbon in Liverpool and then onto clubs. What I would say though if you’re not a professional heel wearer is ballet pumps are both vintage and back in and you’d be able to pick up some cheap enough.
Youll look beautiful! If you’re going heavy on the eyeliner may I suggest a beehive? Check out Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson video for Valarie!

Ygfrhj · 19/12/2025 08:25

I hate it but it is on trend and I would admire anyone I saw wearing it!

Floisme · 19/12/2025 08:26

It’s a splendid outfit. That is all.

itbemay1 · 19/12/2025 08:31

Love it!!

itbemay1 · 19/12/2025 08:32

Can we get a finished pic too!

greglet · 19/12/2025 08:32

Love it!

scrivette · 19/12/2025 08:43

It’s all rather fabulous! Wish I could walk in the heels!

Dollymylove · 19/12/2025 08:51

A friend of mine had a similar sequined top back in the 80s. She paid an absolute fortune for it 😀

arcticpandas · 19/12/2025 05:19

Love it all except the shoes- prefer stylish sneakers that are comfortable.

Sneakers with that outfit!? No.

weaselwords · 19/12/2025 08:59

I absolutely love it, but need to see your hair. Please say you are going full floppy waves with it?

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 19/12/2025 09:07

A la Farah Fawcett? Perfect.

OMGitsnotgood · 19/12/2025 09:15

Love all of it apart from the top but if you if you feel comfortable in it and are going where I think you are, it will be perfect.

PistachioTiramisu · 19/12/2025 09:15

I'm just amazed that you can even walk in those shoes, let alone dance!
