Sophisticated - expensive Christmas jumper?

christmastreeblues · 12/12/2025 15:01

Am fed up with buying a new Christmas jumper each year and it always looking rubbish! I am prepared to invest money in a lovely piece of knitwear to last me. I am looking for something with some sparkle, preferably in a cool toned colour such as proper white, navy, light grey, charcoal etc - not browns.

Can anyone recommend one?

Boden?

Chianti & Parker do nice Christmas jumpers. I’m not sure about their colour or designs, but they certainly do some white/ivory ones.

Yup. I was going to say this. Worth looking in TK Maxx as they had some out of season but Inwouod still check them out now.

If I had loads of money I'd get one of those lovely Faroese hand knitted jumpers like Sara Lund in the Danish version of The Killing.

I got a lovely charcoal one in Next and have had lots of compliments - maybe not as expensive as you were thinking but how many times a year will you really wear it...I'm enjoying a classier jumper this year! 😊

Sophisticated + Christmas jumper = oxymoron

Sezane have some lovely knitwear and some of it seems to have subtle sparkle detail if that is what you are after?

The White Company?

I got a gorgeous one at a stall at Winter Wonderland with sequins, always get compliments on it. The brand is Paramount Knitwear which I'd never heard of before buying it, but you can find it online as well i think.

I hate to say it - but this is the crux of it. They were the stuff of comedy when I was younger and have had a recent resurgence. So fun? Absolutely. Of the moment? Yes. But sophisticated? Absolutely not!

Zadig and Voltaire. Not really Christmas jumpers, but nice cashmere and lots with stars that can fill that void tastefully 😊

CoffeeBeansGalore · 12/12/2025 22:01

Sosander have some nice ones.

MiddlingMarch · 12/12/2025 22:19

I saw some lovely ones in TK Maxx. Not expensive, classic style more than in your face christmas jumper.

GreyTS · 12/12/2025 22:35

There is an article in Vogue from October, the best fair isle jumpers of the year, from Zara to Gucci, I bought 2 from the links, the green H€M and the red GAP, it’s a good place to start. Boden and Celtic and Co both have 100% wool Christmas jumpers around the €200/€300 mark

This!

Here it is though the daddy of all Christmas jumpers €1,500 from Loewe, Mumsnet has labelled the photo as sensitive and honestly they have a point, the price is actually offensive to most people

The Annie sparkle jumpers for Whistles are low-key sparkle & really versatile re dressing up/down. Also in the colours you want. They might be a bit too subtle to count as a proper "Christmas jumper" though ...!!! Which is exactly why i like them & have several.

A sparkly cardigan not a jumper - but would look good with a silk camisole under it, wide velvet trousers & metallic flat shoes?

These are vintage in style, though I'd personally go for the real deal if you like that sort of thing. I have a beautiful black cashmere cardigan, cut in a boxy edge-to-edge shape with gole embroidered braid all round the edges & cuffs, that has been my throw-on with so many things to make my outfit look expensive & a bit more dressed-up.
