Sophisticated - expensive Christmas jumper?

christmastreeblues · 12/12/2025 15:01

Am fed up with buying a new Christmas jumper each year and it always looking rubbish! I am prepared to invest money in a lovely piece of knitwear to last me. I am looking for something with some sparkle, preferably in a cool toned colour such as proper white, navy, light grey, charcoal etc - not browns.

Can anyone recommend one?

Good grief Whistles, 79£ for viscose!
I bought a subtle shimmer navy crew neck top in M&S for under 20£. They have a few similar subtle shimmery tops.
I too was looking for a simple Xmas jumper but failed.

I know - it's ridiculous! BUT - the Annie jumpers do wash & wear like a dream, fit beautifully - & cost an awful lot less on eBay/Vinted!! I've had several of mine for a decade or so now, & they're still perfect. And I've never paid full price ...

Chinti and Parker are excellent, I have 4 of their jumpers and love them. Quite light yet warm and the designs are very simple.

I quite like some of the Chinti Parker designs, and they are well priced by comparison with some of the other well-known cashmere brands.

I do find them a bit hit and miss though. There are often things in their sales that make you think I'm not surprised that didn't rush out of stock. But the quality seems good and they do lots of good basics - and some of their Snoopy range is quite festive without being too naff.

I crocheted very fine delicate silver stars on a chain.

Tack them round neck and cuffs. Voila!

Dd borrowed them to put on her very expensive posh cashmere jumper. She got loads of compliments. You can then just buy a normal expensive jumper!

That's a good idea.

Thanks for these ideas! I’m defiantly meaning a “sweater” rather than a jumper - eg no Santa’s or reindeers, and not fair isle type. More like a lovely quality knit with some sparkle or sequins iyswim.

Well I'm not sure if it's a very thin sweater or a top - but this is lovely if you wear pink ... I've recommended it on another thread as it's beautiful - but I'm strawberry blonde (aka pale ginger) & pink is awful on me!!

I got a lovely charcoal one in Next and have had lots of compliments - maybe not as expensive as you were thinking but how many times a year will you really wear it...I'm enjoying a classier jumper this year! 😊

It's quite nice, but then we're talking about spending £36-00 ? Not everyone has that sort of money ?

Here it is though the daddy of all Christmas jumpers €1,500 from Loewe, Mumsnet has labelled the photo as sensitive and honestly they have a point, the price is actually offensive to most people

That’s lovely. Just not £1500 lovely

HappyFace2025 · 15/12/2025 15:18

I just bought a very nice Zara gold knitted sweater (NWT) on Vinted. Bargain!

But the OP said she wants sophisticated/expensive & wants to invest a bit more? £36 is pretty reasonable by many people's standards? Though I wouldn't consider it an investment piece. And she specifically said she's fed of a lot of the cheaper offerings, so I don't think she's thinking of Asda or Sainsbury ...??

Cashmere with a crystal bow - though a cardigan not sweater ...

Joules , Boden have lovely ones

TroysMammy · 15/12/2025 19:50

None of those are Christmas jumpers however they are jumpers you would wear on Christmas Day.

SpinningaCompass · 15/12/2025 23:19

I would have loved this simple Christmas jumper by Betty Bramble as it looks low key and comfortable and will look good with jeans. Alas! It's missing a crucial apostrophe so couldn't bring myself to do it! https://www.bettybramble.co.uk/products/mixed-sizes-baby-its-cold-outside-christmas-jumper-sample-sale

Was just going to say this.
Lots of lovely jumpers to wear during party season, but none that are actually 'Christmas jumpers'.

But, @StepAwayFromMyCrutches & @TroysMammy, the OP doesn't want a "Christmas jumper" (if you're being pedantic & saying that, to count as that, it has to be knitwear emblazoned with snowflakes, Christmas trees or plum puddings in reds, greens & whites??!!).

She DOES though want a gorgeous jumper to wear at Christmas & says she wants to "invest money in a lovely piece of knitwear to last ... something with some sparkle or sequins ... in a cool-toned colour such as proper white, navy, light grey, charcoal ... with no Santas or reindeers, and not Fair Isle type" ...???
