Where are the almost 50s size 12 shopping?

Feel like I’m too old for some shops. Don’t know my style. Need some going out clothes. Trousers, tops, skirt

OP posts:
EssexCat · 29/11/2025 15:20

I’m a 50yo 10 (to 12) and my wardrobe is full of M&S, H&M (but online only in there as I never find stuff I like in store) and a bit of Zara.

Stucknstoopit · 29/11/2025 15:26

Vinted! I don’t have energy to clothes shop for myself anymore.
I scroll Vinted for clothes I like and then choose ‘favourites’ and the algorithm shows me more things along the same lines , similar brands or styles etc.
also do google searches for ideas for your shape and colouring.

look at celebs you admire, I often do this when someone says ‘you look like so and so (famous person), and I see if their style is something I like and then look for similar style (usually cheaper 🤣)

check out instagram for women in styles you like and age group to give you ideas ,

Anything goes at the moment, you don’t need to try to dress a certain age, or mature etc,
women at fifty now are very different from women the same age fifty years ago.

Holluschickie · 29/11/2025 15:27

Uniqlo, Albaray, Cos, Rapanui, charity shops.

Justthetonicandgin · 29/11/2025 15:30

Hobbs, mint velvet, Karen millen, hush, I’m not trendy, more ‘well turned out’

NancyBellaDonna · 29/11/2025 15:34

Hush, M&S (jeans & trousers), WRAP London, Jaeger, Albaray, Arkett. I'm a lot older than 50-ish but I love clothes. And don't forget the foundation - Fantasie for bras.

TimeForATerf · 29/11/2025 15:34

59, I buy everything, except possibly shoes, sports wear and accessories from M&S, from my beige cotton comfy knickers, to my wide leg jeans to some of the boho Sienna Miller range. I own very little from elsewhere.

We do have a cracking large out of town store though, so the stock is always changing, there is a very wide range and it’s very much on trend.

DarkForces · 29/11/2025 15:35

Vinted! Put in an order for cupshe a few days ago too. I use copilot/chatgpt to help me decide and look for bargains

NancyBellaDonna · 29/11/2025 15:37

I have given up with Vinted. The sizing is all over the place now and some sellers think it's ok to send out dirty garments.

luckylavender · 29/11/2025 15:39

I’m 63, size 12 & I shop at Uniqlo, M&S, Boden, Lucy & Yak, Zara, New Look, Nobody’s Child, White Stuff & John Lewis mainly.

SoleLuna · 29/11/2025 15:45

It's COS, Max&Co, Me+Em, plus Twin Set and some smaller independent brands for knitwear. Uniqlo for basics. I like Ash for shoes. I try to buy natural fabrics as much as possible and generally I go for quality over quantity.

Cactus12 · 29/11/2025 15:47

I’m 46 and size 12, I buy a lot from Vinted. My go-to brands are mostly Zara, H&M, M&S, Oliver Bonas and old-school Oasis and Top Shop items that I’ve had for years!

CalliopePlantain · 29/11/2025 15:54

Probably not your style but I get my clothes mostly from Disturbia, Killstar and Hellbunny. Do have some witchy/gothy bits from Joanie and popsy too.

notatinydancer · 29/11/2025 16:06

M&S , Zara , H&M , Uniqlo, River Island , Mango. Massimo Dutti if feeling rich.

WutheringTights · 29/11/2025 16:10

M&S, Cos, Uniqlo, a bit of Me&Em and &OtherStories. Used to like Mint Velvet but find it overpriced for what it is. When was office-based (very conservative industry) I used to get a lot from Hobbs.

Mumsknot · 29/11/2025 16:14

I’m 52 and use M&S, Uniqlo, Hobbs for work stuff, community clothing (for trousers)

FuelledByRageAndHaribo · 29/11/2025 16:28

Next or Levi’s for jeans, Phase Eight, M&S, Sézane for blouses, John Lewis, Part Two, Sandwich.
I used to like Mint Velvet and bought a lot from there but nothing in the last two years or so.

Perfidia · 29/11/2025 16:54

In my fifties I shopped at;

Topshop - irreplaceable

Raey @ Matches - ditto

Toast - not the same now

Cos - too much grey for my grey hair now

La Fetiche - heavenly, colourful, bankrupting …

Margaret Howell - suits my life more now than then

Studio Nicholson - it’s lost something, and the prices …

Zara - the odd miracle in a sea of rubbish

Marni - lost the plot for a while

Net-a-Porter - reliable, but so huge now

Also, always, whatever I can find from The Outnet and Vestiaire.

(I was mostly a size 10 at the time, up or down a size according to circumstance.)

Sneezo · 29/11/2025 17:00

Me and Em, Cos, Arket, Toast, And Other Stories, a few bits from Sezane, Whistles, Reiss, also some JL and M&S for basics.

I would think about your style before your age. What do you like to wear?

Gettingbysomehow · 29/11/2025 18:00

Im 63, size 10 to 12, and no way am I ever dressing out of the Chums catalogue.
I shop from Fatface, M&S, Uniqlo, Baukjen (mainly from the sales), then White Stuff and occasional high fashion seasonal stuff I find randomly.

Perfidia · 29/11/2025 18:08

Chums catalogue?

No way am I googling that!

You'll be traumatised.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 29/11/2025 18:14

TU, Oliver Bonas, Next, Sosandar, Desigual, M&S, some tops from Superdry and Urban Outfitters.

thedevilinablackdress · 29/11/2025 18:42
  • 80% eBay
  • Toast, Finisterre, Rapanui
Londonmummy66 · 29/11/2025 18:49

Me & Em - I prefer the earlier stuff from ebay (I prefer it to Vinted), uniqlo, Wyse - again plenty on ebay, Aspiga - just the cord and plain stuff - plus some M&S - mainly the Me & Em adjacent items. Also vintage Jil Sander and Dries van Noten when I can find it.

YYYDlilah · 29/11/2025 18:55
