Feel like I’m too old for some shops. Don’t know my style. Need some going out clothes. Trousers, tops, skirt

lindyloo57 · 30/11/2025 17:22

Mainly m&s, next in the clearance, but that's getting harder as more people are buying from there, john lewis sale, I gave up newlook and h& m as the quality was bad last time a went in around 2 months ago. But might take another look as a thread on here said they both had some great stuff in.

Nearly 50... shop in H&M, River Island, Primark, Next, F&F, Shein, wherever I see something I like the look of 😁 My age and the name of the shop wouldn't put me off!

BuntyBeaufort · 30/11/2025 18:35

I’ve just been reading the thread by the poor woman
who’s had death threats, complete with photos of a gun, from a seller on Vinted, who knows her address and who has also threatened her mother and children.

You don’t get that sort of thing in M&S.

cannyvalley · 30/11/2025 18:46

M&S, next, Zara.

unsevered67 · 30/11/2025 19:00

In my early sixties.
I like Sezane , MintVelvet, Cos, whistles . And other Stories , Part Two and Levi for jeans. In all of them I love some things and hate others .

Vinted! Put in an order for cupshe a few days ago too. I use copilot/chatgpt to help me decide and look for bargains

Edited

Oh, how do you use Co-Pilot for ahopping? I love Vinted but find I have to trawl through a lot of ads to find what I want.

TheSnowiestQueen · 01/12/2025 18:23

J Lewis own brand (a few basics)

Boden (plain basics)

The White Company (sales for knitwear)

White Stuff (plain knitwear)

Uniqlo (Cheap Ts and sometimes cashmere)

Mint Velvet

Jigsaw (very rarely now)

Whistles (in sales)

Hush (mainly trousers)

Am older than you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/12/2025 19:42

Zara can be good for thin 100% long, loose cotton dresses in summer - perfect for hot holidays abroad.

socks1107 · 01/12/2025 20:27

Im approaching 50 and a lot of my clothes are M&S

BlueEyedBogWitch · 01/12/2025 21:00

51 here.

Uniqlo for wide leg trousers.
Navy Grey and Jigsaw for jumpers.
Hush, Levi’s and Palome for jeans.
Sezane for shirts.
Jigsaw for lovely tops/cashmere/silk shirts.
Eden Ashram for longline T-shirts to wear when exercising/hanging around the house in leggings.

Londonmummy66 · 01/12/2025 22:25

I also really like Justine Tabak who si in her 50s and designs really well made clothes from British and Irish fabrics that suit both her and her daughter

mumzof4x · 01/12/2025 23:03

White stuff
Nobodys Child
Girl In Mind but less so

Ariela · 02/12/2025 01:19

My last splurge on clothes (lost a couple of stone), and I am mid 60s so feel free to ignore..
Jeans from M&S
Tops and dress from Weird Fish
Jumper from Crew Clothing & one from an independent that was closing down
Just ordered a top and a pink tweed jacket from Joe Browns - I'd have loved more like this when I was 10 years younger
Long evening dress from Scarlett & Jo
I'm also considering getting something from Unfolded, I seem to like their dresses

JustMy2Penneth · 02/12/2025 07:38

Check out small retailers like Cub + Pudding, Wyse for glamorous pieces and if everyday comfort is your thing then, Lucy + Yak. Clothes for all ages.

Nice, but you need the budget for those. Many are expensive brands.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 02/12/2025 08:33

I'm not in the UK but the international brands I buy from are

  • Uniqlo and COS like practically everyone else
  • Levis and Zara for jeans
  • Next or M&S online if I can't find basics I need from the above
  • occasionally Muji, Calvin Klein, Ted Baker for something extra
YYYDlilah · 02/12/2025 09:03

@Foodylicious what has 'size 12' got to do with it?
Because it is a standard size. You could argue 'what has age to do with it?'.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 02/12/2025 09:10

Hi OP.
Trousers from Marks and Spencer.
Tops/cashmere from COS
Blouses from vinted - me&em, zara white cotton blouses, Ilse Jacobsen

I am very boring and wear a shirt/blouse and wide leg trousers and trainers every single day. Work or weekend.

Denim4ever · 02/12/2025 09:15

Perfidia · 29/11/2025 18:08

Chums catalogue?

No way am I googling that!

I used to get the occasional thing for my Dad from there, this was when he was over 90 🤣

He preferred Edinburgh Woollen Mills.

GlassofRosePorfavor · 02/12/2025 09:17

I'm not called Mrs John Lewis for nothing 😂

thesugarbumfairy · 02/12/2025 09:23

I don't 'shop' these days at actual stores online or otherwise. I just get stuff I like the look of from Vinted. My favourite jeans are the M&S patch pocket flares (still some available online - not 12s!) I like Biba stuff (well, fur coats - not that I wear them often) Oliver Bonas, Next and the retro brands (like Collectif, Hell Bunny) although I don't wear novelty prints these days.
