Too old for pinafore dress?

I really like this dress from Nobody’s child but just not sure if I’m too old for this. I’m 45, around 7 stones and 5 2”. I normally wear jeans and knits so this look is very different to my usual style.

I know we can wear what we want but I’m unsure!

Love those boots!

Thanks. I love them too. They were expensive but are very comfortable and go with nearly everything 😂. I even wore them to a wedding in Scotland when I knew it would be freezing 🥶.

@CleverButScatty I’m a 16-18 and I wear these sort of dresses, I think they’re quite flattering because they skim over my lumpy bits! I prefer the sort that go in at the waist a bit so they’re not too shapeless. The nicest ones I’ve found are from White Stuff, not somewhere i shop a lot but they’re good quality and suit me (I think).

Maggiebell · 13/11/2025 07:42

I think pinafore dresses look nice on any age Im 70 and wear with black tights.
I don't care as long as they aren't too short.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 13/11/2025 07:46

I have this in pink (couple of years old) and I am older than you.

Astrabees · 13/11/2025 07:50

I’m 69 and wear pinafore dresses. It’s just a dress with a top underneath! The question is whether the style suits you, not your age.

TheFluffiestCat · 13/11/2025 07:51

I don’t think it’s an age thing. I love pinafore dresses and have tried on loads, but they look daft on me, but my SIL who is the same age (mid-40s) rocks them. Same with dungarees.

RoamingToaster · 13/11/2025 08:44

I think the style is fine but personally I wouldn't wear something so short. I think though it's a confidence and comfort thing on my part rather than age.

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 13/11/2025 09:26

I'm in my 60s and would love to wear a pinafore or dungarees, though with more of a Toast/artisan vibe than cute. Can't pull off cute at 5'10"! But I've never found anything the right length. There are certain types of clothes, eg pinafores, shift dresses and just-below-knee hem lengths, that don't get made in a tall fit.

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 13/11/2025 09:26

I'm 46 and have just bought this one: https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/green-cord-pinafore-mini-dress-d253888grn?queryID=f90462ddcd993a834e268a753a83b072

It's pretty short on me as I'm 5'5" but I'm planning to wear it with opaque tights and flat, lace-up ankle boots and a skinny rib top underneath to "toughen it up" a bit. Nobody's Child do run a bit small generally, I find, but the size 8 was OK on me and I am not as slim as you!

One of my legs weighs Seven stone.

Daftypants · 13/11/2025 09:45

That’s lovely and at your petite height and size will look fab .

Focusispower · 13/11/2025 09:55

I’m 45 and I’m probably going to buy one of their other cord mini dresses! Definitely not too old but will wear it with flat loafers probably and black tights - so not overly dressed up!

I don’t believe in being too old to wear something. The only thing I personally ever feel too old to wear at my age is a crop top….although I do to yoga and Pilates because I don’t care in that environment!

Coloursofwaves · 13/11/2025 10:13

Thanks everyone for your messages. I’m really looking forward to the dress being delivered. I paid full price yesterday and Black Friday 25% off started today 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m glad so many of you enjoy wearing them.

I spend a lot of my time dog walking in muddy fields and woods, hence why I’m mostly in jeans and knits or gym wear so really looking forward to something a bit different.

Wow, thank you for sharing this site. Very cool stuff !

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/11/2025 11:06

Love dresses like this. With tights, boots (knee high or OTK mainly, for me) and something underneath (thin jumper, long sleeved top mainly). Jobs a good ‘un. (And I’m older than you op).

jimbort · 13/11/2025 11:22

I love this! I’d totally wear it and I’m 48. Sadly I have gained weight and it would look a bit maternity but will defo be looking at nobody’s child once I’ve lost some weight , thanks Grin

dizzydizzydizzy · 13/11/2025 11:23

I would wear it and I'm late 50s.

Deliberations · 13/11/2025 12:04

I would probably wear that dress and I'm 53. I'd wear thick tights and knee high boots.

I also wear dungarees and have no f*s to give what anyone thinks ;)

sewingstockings · 13/11/2025 14:51

I am in my 60s I would wear this with leggings. It looks lovely on younger people however they want to wear it.

Frenchcremefraiche · 13/11/2025 15:59

I like it. I also like the more traditional pinafore with bibs. Im too booby to wear them but I would.

Email and ask if they'll honour the discount. Or buy it again with the sale and send one back.

Yup, sadly I think pinafore dresses and huge boobs just don't get on at all!

I wear one . I am 44 and wear it with leggings and ankle boots. Mine is black, cord and from Sainsburys though :)
I also wear dungarees :)
Love them, but DO have to remember not to leave it last minute to go to the toilet! !

weaselpatrol · 13/11/2025 18:49

BigFatBully · 12/11/2025 23:01

It's a big short to be honest. That look is more what early-mid 30s would wear. https://www.lkbennett.com/product/DRAUDREYPETITEPOLYESTERMIXBlueNavy~Audrey-Petite-Spring-Navy-V-Neck-Shift-Dress-Navy Would you consider this?

Frumpy, dull, dated and cheap looking.

I still wear crop tops mid 40s, I don’t give a fuck 😂
