Soft waist trousers - that aren't awful

Tiredofbeingsotired · 02/11/2025 19:47

I'm having some gynae issues that mean I bloat terribly during the day. I'm a size 18, but by the end of the day my tummy is so bloated I can't bear anything touching it.

I a children and youth worker so I tend to wear trousers - I'm an older one though so don't go too heavy on the dungarees - Is there anywhere I can find any non dreadful soft waist jeans/ trousers that won't make me feel like I need to rip them off my body?

Thanks in advance

I love the Me+Em jersey wide leghed trousers. I think they are called travel trousers. Worth every penny of their £60 given how much I have worn them.

PrimaniTu · 02/11/2025 20:25

Varley also do some great ones too.

BorgQueen · 02/11/2025 20:37

The M+S straight legged heavy jersey ones, they have a flat soft waistband.
If they also came with pockets they would be perfect.
I’ve got navy, black and dark check pairs, wish they’d do a camel or taupe pair too.

Look a5 Saint & Sofia. I got so,e simple black ones with zip pockets, that look quite dressy. Very comfy.

Uniqlo flannel pull on. Light, soft and they hang nicely enough to be OK for work.

Halara jeans are fabulous. They look like jeans but are so so comfortable, like joggers with a comfy waistband.

QueenofLouisiana · 02/11/2025 20:55

Snag wide legged leggings. They have a wide, stretch waistband and pockets. Font look like leggings, but work like them.
I teach in an SEND setting and wear these as smarter but super flexible daily wear.

I have the wide leg version of these in black and brown. Absolute bargain at £19.50 although I believe you have to be a bit careful at washing them as they tend to shrink (mine haven't - cool wash/gentle spin and dry on beated airer). They are very comfortable but look smart.

H&M have a few pairs that I have bought for work. So comfy.

Actually it was these palazzo pants I have. Although have heard good things about yhe travel trousers too.

I have 3 pairs of these trousers in black (had to stalk the site as they are popular especially for the price) I wear them everywhere/to work etc.

I was going to say Halara, I have trousers and they're very comfortable

From Next: Roman Black Jersey Stretch Harem Trousers
B20-356 are superb. Really comfortable flexible waist band. Look nice. Just about smart enough for work. They come up small so order a size up.

@Tiredofbeingsotired I discovered H&M flared leggings on this very board. Thousands of reviews!
https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1035873001.html

So comfortable and looks stylish for the school run or work as opposed to normal leggings plus great against my stomach. Most places sell similar but these have really kept their shape. I wear black XL and im a size 16/18. Sometimes a bit longer but ive stopped caring!

swapsicles · 03/11/2025 07:47

I have some from a local Italian shop, a lot of their stuff is one sized but these I went up a size for a good fit.
They are Saloo brand and were about £20, so much movement in them they don't hurt at all ( IBS issues) They are a simple wide leg pull on style and come in different colours.
I find the M and S ones comfy for walking about but not for sitting unfortunately.

ThatPinkShark · 03/11/2025 08:16

You can take a look at some wide-leg pants made of cotton and linen. They are very comfortable and I usually love to wear them.

Halara are great.
If you want smart, they do stretchy 'work trousers'. Also jeans and lots of other styles
Plenty of stretch and variety of leg lengths

I've found some here https://www.bonmarche.co.uk/womens/clothing/trousers-and-shorts/comfort-waist-trousers/ - not a site I'd usually look at but got some lovely work pants from here. I'm short and they do all trousers in various lengths. Cheap and cheerful and you can actually filter by "elasticated waist" (can't believe I'm using that filter, but needs must!).

Next also has a wide range of pull on style elasticated waist trousers. Some casual, some smart enough for work. A lot of them quite soft. Worth a browse.

You need

Beyond Nine https://beyondnine.co.uk/collections/trousers

I could not wear trousers before I found these, I have issues with anything remotely pinching on the waist. Peri menopause has now hit and the bloating that can be up and down. These are soooo comfy they have been a game changer, pricey but worth it.

I just got some of these M&S trousers. They look smart, are very comfortable and dead cheap. I would make sure the waistband is not tight at the beginning of the day, then you have a bit more space if you need it www.marksandspencer.com/jersey-wide-leg-trousers-with-stretch/p/clp60506499?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share
