Soft waist trousers - that aren't awful

Tiredofbeingsotired · 02/11/2025 19:47

I'm having some gynae issues that mean I bloat terribly during the day. I'm a size 18, but by the end of the day my tummy is so bloated I can't bear anything touching it.

I a children and youth worker so I tend to wear trousers - I'm an older one though so don't go too heavy on the dungarees - Is there anywhere I can find any non dreadful soft waist jeans/ trousers that won't make me feel like I need to rip them off my body?

Thanks in advance

Lands End Starfish trousers are very comfortable and smart, especially the straight leg and tapered ones.

treaclesone · 05/11/2025 15:23

I have a question for fans of the me and em palazzo pants. How thick is the material? I have the White Company double jersey pull on pants which are lovely and thick and hang nicely. But I am liking the look of the me and em pants but worry they will show up all my middle aged lumps and bumps.

thedogdaysareover51 · 05/11/2025 16:06

@treaclesoneI have them in black and they are very flattering. Thick material but not too thick. I don’t find them that comfortable around my tummy though as the double fabric waist is quite constrictive. Nice all the same.

Question about the wide legged trousers - what do you do when you go to the loo when out or at work? Do you roll the legs up or just let them 'puddle' on the floor? I'm being serious! I've been rolling the legs up each time but it's a bit of a pain. I don't want them on the floor.

I sort of hoik them up from the knees down as I sit down, then as I’m sat I have excess material above my knees and as I’m now sat down that material can’t move past the right angle of my knees. Timing is everything though.

It's great to wear some loose casual pants, such as sweatpants.

These are so comfy but looks smarter than joggers, I have them in blue

Modal Blend Striped Wide Leg Joggers | M&S | M&S

I second the M&S suggestion. I have a very sensitive waist and really like these trousers.

The M+S straight legged heavy jersey ones, they have a flat soft waistband.
If they also came with pockets they would be perfect.
I’ve got navy, black and dark check pairs, wish they’d do a camel or taupe pair too.

This. M&S straight or wide legged jersey. Lovely wide, smooth, waistband that lies flat but is fully stretchable. Non iron, and, good if working with kids, very easy to clean with baby wipes or jaycloths. ( I know this because I did a pottery class in them, wiped them clean then went for drinks. Any other trousers I'd have had to change.)

Denim Elasticated Waist Wide Leg Trousers | M&S | M&S

If you like wide leg - I wear have these in black. They are a mid-weight fabric. I got the slightly larger size so they never dig in and cope with the variations in stomach size throughout the day! I can wear them with trainers or boots, smart or casual. They are flat fronted but elastic at the back.

Thanks for this thread. I bought these on your recommendation and they are brilliant. Love the flat front with no drawstring. I’ll be buying a second pair.

treaclesone · 06/11/2025 13:58

@thedogdaysareover51 thank you for the info! Maybe I need to give the me and em ones a try!

I’m 5.5 and they are a tiny bit long on me.

I’m 5’11’ so probably no chance.

fivebyfivefaith · 06/11/2025 15:12

I could post loads as endo means everything I wear has to be comfy
however these stand out - I wore them home after a huge gynae op

I second the M&S denim trousers, I have rhem in black, they are really comfortable, soft and stylish

@ImFineItsAllFine @QueenofLouisiana

the Snag boot cuts look really nice thanks for that, can you please let me know what the sizing is like, are they true to size fit or cut large/small, I see they have elastane. TIA

Ireolu · 08/11/2025 11:52

CharlieChaplin99 · 05/11/2025 05:52

How tall are you both, what is the inside leg and do they have much stretch please? i am an 18 on the hips but my tummy is definitely a 20.

I'm about 165cm tall. They have great stretch and the material just hangs beautifully. They are long but I wear a lot of thick soled shoes. I tried the white company trousers similar to these whilst waiting for my size to come back into stock (same price/ not as nice). I'm a size 12/14. I have lots of room in the 14. I think me and em do fantastic trousers all round though.

I bought a size E, I was moving out of an 18 around my tummy and definitely a size 18 in normal trousers.

Im on a weight loss journey and they still fit now that I can do up a size 16 (although I can’t yet wear 16s all day!). They allowed for done bloating after eating.

I’m 165cm with short legs, I got the short length. HTH

@bookmarket I also purchased the m&s jean type trousers and they are great! I bought an 18 and it feels really comfortable/can be dressed up i feel. Thank you!

You need

Beyond Nine https://beyondnine.co.uk/collections/trousers

I could not wear trousers before I found these, I have issues with anything remotely pinching on the waist. Peri menopause has now hit and the bloating that can be up and down. These are soooo comfy they have been a game changer, pricey but worth it.

Edited

All that money to look as though you have rickets. I really don’t get the appeal of this shape trouser.

I'm so thrilled two of you have bought them and live then too. They're just the right fabric aren't they? And so comfortable. I think I'll buy a reserve pair incase they stop selling them 😄

Yes, i used to be in leggings then moved to black trousers but these are a really happy trendy medium. I actually wore them immediately rather than save for a special day, and actually felt good on the boring school run!

Handeyethingyowl · 14/11/2025 15:20

I have bought two pairs of the M&S ones because of this thread 🙂

SnippySnappy · 04/11/2025 19:58

Agree. I wear the waffle (?) fabric ones for work regularly, I have them in black and grey and they've seen me through belly 'changes'. You can find them new without tags via eBay resellers for £17.99, nearly all colours and sizes. They have pockets too!

Be careful buying ‘Halara’ trousers from eBay. I bought some ‘new’ and they are definitely not genuine. Very poor quality so I sent them back saying they were not as described.
