Anyone else just blah about buying what’s on offer this season?

ToughTimeLately · 18/10/2025 16:47

So far I’ve bought a red jumper from Hush, and a knitted dress from Jigsaw and I think I’m done.

I ordered and returned a few items and I think I just CBA and will wear what I’ve got.

In fact I’ve sold more things on Vinted than buying new or 2nd hand. I’m culling big time. Anything I’m not using is going.

Anyone else done with Autumn/ winter before it’s even got going?

Do you buy new garments every season? Confused

TheChosenTwo · 18/10/2025 20:52

@DuvetsFTW i don’t usually replace my whole wardrobe every season but will add a couple of things to it.
this year im 6 stone lighter than i was last year and have needed to replace everything And finding it a struggle!
Op what are you looking for, someone might be able to help if you can narrow down a specific style you lean towards?

Thortour · 18/10/2025 20:55

There is nothing I want.

Most people on the Style and Beauty board probably do.

Meadowfinch · 18/10/2025 21:04

Yes.

I don't like extra wide legged trousers and they don't suit me. Or pie frill collars.

I need a pair of low heeled ankle boots but can't find any I like, that I can afford.

So far this autumn, I've bought two pairs of basic cord jeans, and a sweater and a wool skirt in the sales. If I can find the boots, I'll be all set too.

Are we not allowed to buy new bits if we want then?

TBH I have to restrain myself every autumn as it's my favourite season and I love the colours.

capricorn12 · 18/10/2025 21:06

I work in fashion retail and feel the same OP. It feels like everything is the same as last year and the same from one shop to another. Another issue I have is that the current trends don't suit my body shape so I'm struggling to find my enthusiasm.

Screamingabdabz · 18/10/2025 21:18

Yep same. I’ve scoured every website for something different or flattering.

Nope. All sparkly hideous Christmas dresses or maxi length and ‘oversized’ everything, weird necklines, ugly colours or sodding frills everywhere you don’t want them. And please, for the love of God, is it too much to ask for a proper plain sleeve in the right place? Not dropped or puffed ffs.

I really don’t need to add to my wardrobe, but I’m wondering if we’ll ever see well cut, wearable clothes again?

Yes. I buy two or three good things each winter.

This year I need ankle boots (the last pair split), a tidy work dress (one of mine is definitely past its best), and a bag if I can find one.

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 18/10/2025 21:42

Oh god, YES.

I could do with a few more outfits and I've trawled round the shops. Frumpy, dull and shapeless seems to be the order of the day. WHY?

I don't want 'zany kooky' styles, or to look like I'm going clubbing, but neither do I want to die of boredom every time I go into a shop.

What the hell has happened? Every time I see something interesting online, it's from SHEIN or Cider. Seriously thinking of giving them a go.

CurlyCabbage · 18/10/2025 21:52

I quite like the current ‘trends’ but thats only because ive relised the wider bottoms and barrel styles really suit me. They balance out a top heavy figure well.

The issue im finding is that everywhere seems to be complying to some sort of uniform. Each shop has the same 5 pieces in the same 4 colours. Every influencer is wearing and advertising pieces of said uniform. There is no variability at all. Its very boring for a season usually rich in texture, fabric and colours.

make it stop.

henlake7 · 18/10/2025 21:59

TBH I'm on board with oversized things, frills, big collars, 'zany' patterns, etc.
I struggled more the last few years when everything was beige or grey and classic (or dull and boring in my eyes!).

ThatGlimmeringSea · 18/10/2025 22:03

I like how wide-legs look on other people but when I’ve tried them on myself I just look really out of proportion and I can’t figure out the correct length/ width and what footwear would suit.

TheChosenTwo · 18/10/2025 22:16

I think I’m just finding things to be a bit too flappy for me. I’m someone who feels the cold and have to wear thermals underneath clothes anyway but the gappy flappy clothes are just not going to help me stay warm.
i don’t want super tight figure hugging clothes but a bit more fitted than the current silhouettes I’m seeing would be great!
Everything seems to be oversized/shapeless, sleeves not long enough for my long arms so thermals are always on show.
Fed up!

Patagonia21 · 18/10/2025 22:17

I went shopping this week, rather than on-line and found so many things. I came home with some wide legged jeans and some lovely jumpers. I have plenty of jeans already but these are a different style and it was useful to try on several pairs from different brands and compare before purchasing.

Next on my wish list is a new bag, some flat knee high boots and pointed toe heels, mid height.

moose62 · 18/10/2025 22:19

For the first time in years I gave bought two great cardigans from Marks! I was really surprised at how nice they are....but otherwise I'm not really inspired.

henlake7 · 18/10/2025 22:27

Knee high boots are one of those things I can never seem to find, my calves are sadly too fat!

TheOGCCL · 18/10/2025 22:29

I like to wear chocolate brown and there's a lot of that about. Khaki green is another of my colours.

Other than that it is a bit samey and I'm not really hankering after much. Helps I've already spent my budget for the year.

Obviously the season has just started and there will be plenty more 'drops' but that's part of the problem in terms of fast fashion over quality.

I agree with PP it's better to shop IRL but that's not an option open to everyone.

BusterGonad · 19/10/2025 05:48

I've bought quite a lot and mainly from one store as I get it delivered, I've bought a chocolate brown jumper dress, and the same in red, a charcoal grey jumper dress and a black fit and flare one and the same in soft grey. When I find something I like I do buy other colour options. I've also bought a black jumper with a tie neck and the same in burgundy. It's the type of jumper you'd wear to a meal out or something so slightly more dressy then a normal jumper.

Gymbunny2025 · 19/10/2025 06:42

I’m the opposite I’ve bought loads! 2 wide leg trousers for work, some khaki ones for home, 3 new work dresses, 3 shirts, a denim dress, a zip up wool cardigan and a miniskirt. The red this season suits me (for once!), I like wide legged trousers, also the shirts are really appealing to me this year. Overall I love muted colours which are everywhere. I could easily buy a winter coat too but I’ve bought enough now

TheLemonOtter · 19/10/2025 06:58

I was walking around the shopping centre yesterday and everything looked such poor quality - all acrylic type fabrics, jumpers that almost looked bobbled already, polyester shirts, even in shops I sometimes find nice stuff in. I have bought a red jumper (uniqlo), but that is it.

LittleMoreLegAction · 19/10/2025 07:03

Bought my favourite brogues in burgundy. They are the comfiest shoes in the world!

Floisme · 19/10/2025 07:07

I’m liking a lot of things but not buying much because I bought two pairs of boots at the very end of summer and don’t have much money left.

TattooStan · 19/10/2025 07:13

I buy a handful of items a year.

For the autumn/winter, I've bought a plum-coloured cord mini skirt from Nobody's Child, a red cashmere sweater dress and black roll neck merino wool sweater from Uniqlo, a camel coloured car coat from M&S and a pair of rust-coloured cord bootcut/flares from Boden.

I've lost a dress size so needed a few bits as I looked like I was wearing my mum's clothes before!

Tiddlywinkly · 19/10/2025 07:21

Hi op.

I've bought a rust brushed cashmere jumper, a chocolate brown cardigan and an a navy argyle jumper. Oh and a new work bag. My old one had died after 4 years. I'm done.

I've seen some coats I like, but I'm making do with the ones I have. Same with boots.

I'm selling stuff on Vinted too.
