Anyone else just blah about buying what’s on offer this season?

So far I’ve bought a red jumper from Hush, and a knitted dress from Jigsaw and I think I’m done.

I ordered and returned a few items and I think I just CBA and will wear what I’ve got.

In fact I’ve sold more things on Vinted than buying new or 2nd hand. I’m culling big time. Anything I’m not using is going.

Anyone else done with Autumn/ winter before it’s even got going?

Hi op.

I've bought a rust brushed cashmere jumper, a chocolate brown cardigan and an a navy argyle jumper. Oh and a new work bag. My old one had died after 4 years. I'm done.

I've seen some coats I like, but I'm making do with the ones I have. Same with boots.

I'm selling stuff on Vinted too.

Can I ask where your jumper is from please?

BusterGonad · 19/10/2025 05:48

I've bought quite a lot and mainly from one store as I get it delivered, I've bought a chocolate brown jumper dress, and the same in red, a charcoal grey jumper dress and a black fit and flare one and the same in soft grey. When I find something I like I do buy other colour options. I've also bought a black jumper with a tie neck and the same in burgundy. It's the type of jumper you'd wear to a meal out or something so slightly more dressy then a normal jumper.

Which store please? This all sounds right up my street.

Zara is good this season. I got a beautiful checked coat.

Yes sounds great. I've not found much I like this autumn. Only a couple of jumpers from M& S. And if I like something in M & S its usually out of stock. Year after year this happens, drives me mad.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 20/10/2025 06:39

I bought quite a lot of summer clothes so I’m trying to restrict myself. I want to see what trainers Moda in Pell have when I next go into a town which stocks them.
I bought some ankle boots from them a few years ago and they are superb quality.

Daisymay8 · 20/10/2025 06:44

I live I. Scotland so rain and strong winds the norm. Wide leg trousers ok for evening but are like sails flapping, I also don’t want short legs with a gap (just make me look short) -I found one in between style in Next in cord but it’s the one style which has sold out in my size - sold out in October ????

Slightyamusedandsilly · 20/10/2025 06:46

Yep! This winter I wanted some bright jumpers / cardigans. Red, pink, green and not bright navy. Nice pair of jeans. Flat knee-high and also ankle boots to wear with dresses, jeans, leggings.

I've managed a jumper and a cardigan. Jeans that I've worn once and now don't like.

The boots are a need rather than a want. My current boots I wear everyday and they're on their way out. But I haven't seen any replacement that I like.

Do you buy new garments every season? Confused

I work hard in 2 jobs, have elderly sick parent, children and a house and dog to look after and not much me time at all (as shown in my other thread about my insomnia because of stress and being overwhelmed) so yes, I do treat myself to a few things each season. Well, I don’t buy spring clothes as that’s all hit and miss, and autumn is for winter too.

I don’t think I have loads of clothes. I lost 2.5 stone a year ago so I had to get rid/ sell a lot of my clothes as there were 2-3 sizes too big. I’ve most definitely downsized my wardrobe. I sold 6 things on Vinted yesterday including some of my DHs as he has lost 2.5 stone too.

At the moment I think I’m getting more of a high selling things than buying things. Reverse shopping? 😀

Are we not allowed to buy new bits if we want then?

TBH I have to restrain myself every autumn as it's my favourite season and I love the colours.

I'm the opposite. As a jewel winter I find it easy to resist buying new pieces as autumn colours drain me.

I was hankering after some long brown suede/ leather boots and ordered a pricey pair. They weren’t great, and my DH agreed. Then I put on my old brown boots which I’ve got an issue with because they were quite cheap and he said “oh. Keep them they’re really nice”. Just goes to show 😜

I like how wide-legs look on other people but when I’ve tried them on myself I just look really out of proportion and I can’t figure out the correct length/ width and what footwear would suit.

I'm the same. I have tried numerous pairs and they just don't look right on me - they make me look short and I'm not. I've given up and will stick with bootleg.

socks1107 · 20/10/2025 08:05

I’m loving this years fashion. I’ve bought quite a lot but needed a good amount with some weight I’ve lost and generally needed smartening up for a promotion to a more office based role. The wide leg trousers really suit my shape so I’ve bought a few pairs for home and work.
that being said hopefully next year I won’t need as much

FourthInstar · 20/10/2025 09:59

@Meadowfinch May I enquire about your corduroy jeans? I fancied a pair of fairly slim-fitting cord trousers but haven't found anything l like enough to buy. Closest have been Land's End (don't have colour I really want and when I was on the point of compromising the price went up) and House of Bruar (more expensive than I'm comfortable with, not sure about fit as brands like that have a tendency to come up horribly baggy in all the wrong places).

tobee · 21/10/2025 17:44

I'm bored of the beige and the brown and the camel. Dull neutrals seem to have been in forever. They are always described as classic or quiet luxury or some such.

RampantIvy · 21/10/2025 18:26

I think they are just dull and wishy washy.

lindyloo57 · 21/10/2025 18:27

I brought two pairs of jeans, new shape for me a boyfriend and a high waist slim cropped both from marks and spencer , to help me stop wearing skinnies, i do have boot cut and the front pocket wide leg, again marks and a wide leg from mango which are a bit too long but I can wear them with a small heel boot even though they are the Catherine cropped culotte they measure around 29 inches in length . They suit me much better than the skinnies as I have a top heavy figure.

Yes, some people buy clothes every season. Often you’ll find those people in the Style and Beauty section. Shall we get a chair in case you’re feeling faint?

CharlotteCChapel · 21/10/2025 19:27

Like a PP I've lost enough weight ymto need new clothes. I've mainly bought trousers.

Frequentlyincorrectbut · 21/10/2025 19:29

I don't buy 'everything' in a new season, I tend to look through, see what I still like, see what I still fit, find the gaps from last year and then buy those. This year I don't have enough pjs or scarves and could do with different coloured tops other than black. I have also bought another pair of suede shoes in tan which is my go-to colour in autumn.

I also have a list of things I'm not allowed to buy which is things that won't expand out my wardrobe or I've already got lots of them so it's just swapping new things for existing things- these include wide legged jeans, black coats and jackets, and black tops.

That leaves room for the odd wild card!

RaraRachael · 21/10/2025 19:41

Seeing as everything this season is shitty chocolate brown, I won't be buying anything.

I normally look forward to autumn/winter as I prefer the colours but will be saving money this year.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/10/2025 20:24

I love autumn clothes shopping, and brown and burgundy are favourites of mine, so I’ve bought a few things as I had a few gaps that needed to be filled. Barrel leg jeans and trousers (wasn’t sure about this shape, but I loved them on and they’re replace my wide leg jeans 👖 n rainy days), some finer weight knitwear (mix of Zara, Albany, mango) as I had a bit of a clear out of older bobbly stuff in the spring and some new brown trousers for work because I seem to live in various navy trousers in autumn/winter.

i did find it much better to go shopping in person though, I lose the will to live online as so much is so samey these days. The barrel leg trousers fell into my basket accidentally when I went into Uniqlo to stock up on some basics for DC.

I really want a new coat and possibly some knee high boots but I’ll wait till there are some offers on.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 21/10/2025 18:37

Of course, it's all from Mango as I can get it delivered, I don't live I the UK. The 1st one I have the wine and chocolate brown. The second I have the black and soft grey and the 3rd only came in the dark grey. I got rid of all my jumper dresses a few years back due to moving and I'm so excited to replace them.

Anyone else just blah about buying what’s on offer this season?

Very nice @BusterGonad
Love a jumper dress. I need one with a lower neck but may check out the zip neck one. Thanks.

BusterGonad · 22/10/2025 07:59

I prefer a lower neck myself as I have big boobs but I couldn't resist, the grey zip one is a much looser casual fit, I did debate if I should return it as it isn't as flattering, but then I always think of a certain poster, who's name I forget, that says you should wear clothes that you enjoy, not just what flatters you and I thought 'sod it, I'll keep it' 😁
