Having purchased quite a few items, and knowing many of you have too... no judgement 😅 But I'm in need of new makeup brushes. Can anyone recommend a high quality set please?

I use and like hourglass, morphe and spectrum brushes 😊 Makeup by Mario are meant to be good brushes but I've not tried any myself. I also have a few no7 brushes that I use. Oh and a big La Mer powder brush which is so soft and gorgeous 😍

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 09/11/2025 17:16

I got a set of brand new Hourglass brushes from Vinted and my dd and I were agog unwrapping them on Friday. So, so soft. Beautiful. I got three for £25.

That said, I haven't used them yet, despite having worn make up in the meantime. I really love the Spectrum brushes, I've got a few of those and each one is perfect. I really appreciate that it says what it is to be used for on the side of the brush.

OvaHere · 09/11/2025 18:08

Spectrum always massively reduced brush sets for BF and Xmas sales, you can get some good deals and they are decent brushes. I think the Morphe brush sets look nice, a bit more expensive but not ridiculous price. I did buy the Mario F4 brush as a single and that is very good for base products and cream/powder blushes.

Make up brushes - Hourglass, Laura Mercier, Lisa Eldridge, Kevyn Aucoin. Kevyn Aucoin are the best I’ve had in my opinion. I really like the Laura Mercier eye brushes. Don’t forget MAC! They’re really good I think get forgotten about in the lux bracket. They do cute mini brush edits at Christmas.

JPMJuliz · 09/11/2025 19:02

Complexion brushes: Hourglass, Haus Labs and Makeup By Mario (F1 and F4 in particular), eyeshadow brushes: I prefer Morphe and Sigma.

I wanted to ask about eyeliners. I tried to do a smokey eye look today and it was an epic fail. I tried 3 eye liners, one by loreal, elf and maybelline. None showed up on my waterline. Are there any you swear by to achieve this look?

Re brushes I do like spectrum and sigma brushes.

I purchased a set of these a month or so ago, as did another poster. I haven’t used mine yet but I love the look of them

I’ve been using Rimmel Scandaleyes Exaggerate water proof eye liner (twisty one, not the kohl) for well over a decade for that exact purpose. It doesn’t budge, lasts a long time if you only using it for waterline for smokey eye look. I remove it with micellar water followed by an oil and then get cleanser.

I used to just go back and forth a bizillion times until it went on 🤣 Eyeliners I like are mainly the victoria beckham ones, estée lauder and Patrick ta.

I actually don't wear such a prominent eyeliner below that much anymore, I do still do a thick line above. But below I tend to do a third of my eye with eyeliner on the outer side, just under the waterline, then blend it out and in with a thin angled brush to create a softer look. Sometimes I just use powder if I want it to be even softer.

Evergreen21 · 09/11/2025 22:58

Thanks @JPMJuliz . I am going to order and give it another go.

I use the rimmel pen one for above my eyes. I've tried more expensive ones to try to be a bit more boujee, but they're never as good or my eyes react to it. I swear by that one now and will forever be loyal 🤣

It’s cheap enough not to break the bank and more often than not is on offer/some kind of sale as well.

I think that's just in the app?

Ordered, thanks! This one is a really good little box for the price.

Oh is it? It just automatically takes me to the app and doesn't say app only on it so I assumed it was online too 🤔

LoveLabradors · 10/11/2025 08:11

I’ve ordered the CB edit, one of the better ones in a while. BDAY15 works and I had £10 credit too.

Yes, I've mainly bought it for the Medik8 cream, but happy to be getting the Dr Dennis gross peels and the leave in conditioner. I might try to sell the lipstick, mascara and toner, just because I don't think I'll use them.

Two full size moisturisers for £40 ish is pretty good

OvaHere · 10/11/2025 08:20

It is a good one. I'm not buying it as I already have a full and travel size of the toner, a different MediK8 cream I haven't yet opened and I really don't need more of the other stuff.

Be careful when trying the DDG peel pads. These are the strongest version of the 3 they do so if you haven't used them before (or other glycolic acid products) they could be a bit stingy.

Top tip for anyone with military in the family, went shopping with dc who is in military and got a huge discount in boots on top of standard offers, no idea if this was normal or staff being extra nice but was so impressed (the 6 deodorants and 4 shampoo she was buying was a clue to why we were there!). I picked up several make up items all heavily discounted. Thanks boots!

I need moisturisers but same as you I am starting to end up with a stock pile of mascaras and hair products as I just don’t use those as much as moisturisers and lip balms and serums. I am all about moisture.

Yeah, we need a good moisture and hydration edit, with a nice lip balm and hand cream in. That's what I'm really missing right now 😩
