Smellies as Christmas present for 9 year old - which brand?

Gettingonabitnow · 06/10/2025 20:20

Hi

Id like to get 9 year old DD some smellies as a stocking filler - by that I mean some body mist to wear for discos / parties, body lotion etc. Can anyone recommend a brand that would nourish her skin / has more natural products please? Just looked The Body Shop but nothing really on there.

I think 9 is just a bit too young for this sort of thing and that is probably why you could not find anything suitable.

Gettingonabitnow · 06/10/2025 20:28

Look for recommendations, not your opinion, but thanks.

You clearly don’t have a 9 year old DD.

OP - the only possible answer to this question is Sol de Janeiro.

I’d suggest the minis pack (they’re not that mini at all) from Boots or Sephora. Extra kudos points if it comes in a Sephora paper bag.

Mrsoftandhisstrangeworld · 06/10/2025 20:29

Lush if you want to bankrupt yourself.

Gettingonabitnow · 06/10/2025 20:30

Thank you - I’ll take a look.

Btw I know it’s not stocking filler price territory… your other option is to buy one large bottle but then you need to decide which scent to buy. My DD (10) loves 68 (and so do I… I know every time she wears it!).

Busyschedule · 06/10/2025 20:32

I bought my niece makeup from the natural play makeup company. I wonder if they would have anything that works?

purpledagger · 06/10/2025 20:35

i second sol de janeiro, but it’s expensive.

TK Maxx is worth look it. can’t recommend any specific brands, but worth a wander if you have one near you.

Gettingonabitnow · 06/10/2025 20:37

Thanks so much. Never heard of Sol Before this evening! The packaging is nice, definitely would look like a lovely gift.

B&M have a great Sol de Janeiro dupe, I think I’ve seen gift packs with multiple scents in for Christmas - goes down well with my similar aged daughter

ImNoSuperman · 06/10/2025 20:37

Next Kids Miss Pink or Kids Strawberry. Light perfumes and body mist gift sets. Bought one as a birthday gift for a 10 yo last month and she'll get the other for Christmas. Well received. Hopefully stops her spraying very expensive adult perfume just to smell it!

Gettingonabitnow · 06/10/2025 20:38

Ah yes good shout Next, never thought of that.

9 is too young to be concerned about body odor.

But here goes

Jason is a good organic brand that has body lotions in light scents that will moisturise her skin

Weleda is another good organic brand as well as the above, they also sell body spray/mists of rosewater, lavender etc that are all natural.

evilharpy · 06/10/2025 20:40

Mine loves Soap & Glory, or anything from Lush.

She’s not in the slightest bit concerned and neither am I. Do you wear perfume to cover your body odour or do you wear it as a treat to feel good?!

I had periods at 9, I needed antiperspirant
perfume and body spray isn’t for odour, it’s to smell pleasant and for fun

I don’t and never have worn perfume. I never understood why we wear it today when it was invented specifically to mask the smell of unwashed bodies.

Ok, well I didn’t get my first period until 16, my DDs got theirs at 14 and 17.
9 is premature to get a period then. Even if you got your period, why be ashamed of it enough to think you need perfume?

What is “fun” about perfume? (I should disclose here that I am ND)

Give me strength, all I wanted was lighthearted recommendations! I’m sure you smell lovely though regardless.

My vote would be lush (snow fairy a big hit with the kiddies), Sol and next also have nice scents.

Boos do sets of ‘so’ body mist which have fun scents and are cheap!

To the nay sayers about periods and BO, my DD started her periods at 10 and absolutely reeked for more than a year before.

Girls are having their periods younger these days and precocious puberty is anything younger than 8 for periods.

Anyway, Sol de Janeiro is tweens top choice around here, but the Body shop do their own body sprays that are similar.

Lush and Snow Fairy is also a good call.
